About The Divine Sphere
I have decided to recruit 4-6 players for a high powered romp from the heavens onto a mortal world to redeem a fallen world and bring the light of goodness to a damned people.
Campaign Background
You are called before the pantheon, the summons urgent. When you arrive, you are not alone. Several others stand with you as your are addressed. As the members of the pantheon begin to speak, you realize the urgency of their message. The powers that be heard A call. A small voice calling out in prayer, pleading for help to save their world, a world lost millenia ago. A struggle had occurred both terrestial and celestial, the end result that the goodly gods left the world for reasons mortals could not divine.
But there was a hope. The voice that called, begging the goodly gods, brought an answer, a loophole through which aid could indeed be given. A group of angels, freely relinquishing their divine bonds, could be sent to the world. Much would have to be sacrificed. The divine power they wielded. Knowledge of the planes beyond. Even their identities would be taken. With only a fragment of who they were beyond, they could be incarnated on this damned world as messengers of the heavens, sent to save it's peoples. This is why you were called forth.
The mission would not be simple. They were to find the person who called to the heavens. With his aid, restore faith to a broken people. And free a damned world from the evils that now plagued it.
Campaign Goals
In this campaign you will be taking on the rolls of celestials who have given up a significant portion of their heritage in order to help a world that was damned long ago. Each character will be in service to a deity designed by the player. I will round out the pantheon based on the deities of the players selected, as well as establish the mythos of the world.
The direction of the campaign is open ended. The ultimate goal of the campaign is to bring back the goodly religions to this damned world. How this is accomplished is largely left up to the players. Eventually as faith is restored they will be able to once again regain indirect contact with their deities which will allow for some directions and options to be given, but how they handle this will be up to the players. I will adapt the campaign to fit the style of play they choose, be it establishing a good aligned kingdom they plan to defend, working a resistance in the evil controlled cities, or just plain prosthelytizing.
Character Creation
Ability Scores: Ability Scores will be made using 30 point buy, but see Races below.
Races: Each character will be given the use of the Half-Celestial Template with the following changes. The character will receive the ability to use Alter Self at will to change into a single form of the base race to function as a disguise of an ordinary mortal. The base form cannot be changed once selected, and should retain similar physical characteristics to the main form. You do not receive the other benefits of the spell besides the appearance, such as an increase to strength or dexterity, or additional physical characteristics.
Allowed base races include those from the Player's Handbook. Races from the ARG and custom built races will be considered based upon submission. Be aware that a tiefling will quite likely not be allowed.
If making a custom race as the base, I need more than simple stats. A fully stated race entry complete with the same materials presented as the Unusual Races from the ARG would be appropriate, including the height/weight/age information, as well as favored class benefits. The more information provided will increase your chances of acceptance. I will reserve the right to utilize any custom races accepted in the campaign world as well.
When choosing your race, note that each race will reduce your ability score points by an amount equal to the RP cost from the Advanced Race Guide.
Classes: Each character will be created using the Gestalt ruleset with the following caveat. One of the classes must have a celestial theme to it. This does not necessarily mean divine caster. As examples, Cleric, Oracle, Paladin, Celestial-themed sorcerer, Celestial-themed Summoner, etc. I cannot come up with every possible combination, so if you have one you'd like to try, present it. The GM does have final say on ruling out any combinations presented.
Prestige Classes and Multi-classsing will not be used in this campaign.
Skills: Everyone gets Knowledge (Religion) as a class skill. I encourage spending at least one rank in it. Knowledge (Geography), Knowledge (History) and Knowledge (Local) will not be allowed at first level as the world is unknown to the PCs at the start. As the adventure moves on, allowances will be made for these skills.
Alignments: Good alignments only.
Starting Gold: Each character will receive 300gp for their starting gold.
Hit Points: Average of the max from the two classes chosen. Leveling up, hit points will be 1/2 this average.
Ressurection: As Outsiders, you will not be able to be ressurected. This is a warning. For you, dead is truly dead.
Deity: Each character will require to be in service to a deity. This is not necessarily one of the established deities, but rather can be a deity you construct yourself. You will be bringing religion (well, the good-aligned ones) back to this world. As such you may quite well be shaping the future of this world's worship. Feel free to be creative with this.
When creating your deity, try to follow a similar format with number of domains/sub-domains as the established Pathfinder deities.
Backgrounds: Each character will recall very little upon being incarnated upon this world. The basics of each deities worship, the basics of the mission, and enough information to use your abilities. Beyond this very little of who you were remains.
Warnings
This campaign is a Work in Progress idea, which may involve changes as we go along. I will make all efforts not to alter the story in any way, but the possibility does exist.
When it comes to combat, I intend to use Google Docs for my maps. If you are not sure if you can use Google Docs, test this link and see if you can manipulate the Tokens.
GM Questions
For your submissions, please answer the following questions.
1) Who are you? Go beyond just name. What are your goals and drives?
2) What do you look like? Include both angelic and non-angelic forms.
3) Who is your deity, and what are your thoughts of him/her/it?
4) What good aligned outsider would you most closely identify with, if any?
5) How would you like to see the campaign develop, including any optional subsystems used?
