The Natron Fang: Carved from a single chunk of magically strengthened mineral salts, a natron fang is a + 1 khopesh forged to combat the undead, specifically mummies and incorporeal undead. A natron fang overcomes the damage reduction of mummies, mummified creatures, and other mummy-like creatures at the GM’s discretion. Once per day on a successful strike against an incorporeal undead creature, a natron fang also deals 1d6 points of Charisma damage (Will DC 13 half) in addition to the weapon’s normal damage.

Background:

I'd like 5+ points that capture the concept and story of the character. More are welcome, but no less than five.

a. Grew up with stories of powerful sphynx saving people and generally acting as a force of good in the river valley.
b. Stories also told of those warriors deemed strong enough to aid the sphinx as Living Monoliths, a transformation from human to stone protector…and Teos wants to be one!

c. His love of sphinx lead him to learn all about them, riddles and even a basic understanding of their language.

d. Parents worked on a farm outside the city proper, until their plot was taken from them by the viceroy. To make money for his family, Teos’ father went to work in the quarry where he, even now, struggles to make ends meet.

e. To help his family, and as eldest of 6 children, Teos trained hard to become a militiaman, and then a caravan guard. Almost all his money goes to his family.

f. His oldest sister, An-Cleos, was accepted into the Church of Anubis, where she is an acolyte.

g. His other brothers and sister still live at home. Eos, the second oldest helps his father at the quarry. Meb, his other sister, is hoping to get married to a farmer on the other side of the city. The other two boys (twins-Neb and Kharos) are still too young to work, but still help by collecting reeds and papyrus by the riverside for sale.

h. As a gift from a client whom he saved from bandits, Teos received a beautiful set of hetkoshus-hide armor. The gleaming black jack and kilt are a prized position and he take very good care of it. He wears it day and night, hardly being separated from it.

Two goals that you'd like the character to accomplish in-game.

1. Teos wishes to make enough money to take care of his family..allowing his father to retire and his brothers and sisters to peruse whatever career they wish.

2. He wants to be transformed into a Living Monolith.

Two secrets, one the PC keeps to himself, and one kept from the PC. I'll come up with a third that both the character and player aren't aware of, in hopes of shocking surprises within the storytelling.

1. The man he saved and who gave him the armor was a member of a treasure-hunting group. He was being pursued by guards of the local temple, and Teos assisted him in escaping by distracting the guards (and having to kill one). The armor that he wears was found in some dark ruin, but Teos demanded it as his payment for helping the thieves. The armor may be special. Cursed or just normal, high quality armor.

2. Hidden deep in the bottom of his backpack, and rarely taken out around others, is a secret that Teos would be loathed to have discovered. A hidden talisman that he has had since he was but a child…a stuffed sphinx doll. It is a source of comfort and shame to the warrior, but it was a gift from his parents when he was young, and he has kept and cared for it since that time.

3-5 people that are tied to your PC by blood, love, rivalry, honor, etc. I'd like at least one enemy in a set of three or four, with no more than two for a set of five. PLEASE consider the players reference guide for ideas.

1. Of all his brothers and sisters, Teos is closest with his oldest sister, Cleos. Now an acolyte of the god Anubis, An-Cleos (as she is now known) shares her brother’s ideas and sensibilities. It has been very hard on both being separated, but they still are able to meet at least once a month to catch up. Teos is very proud of Cleo, and she of him.

2. Teos’ greatest rival is Hept. Both grew up on farms and joined the militia around the same time. Being similar in build and ability, they were always pit against each other in training and the instructors were split on who they thought was the best soldier. It finally came to a head when a sparing trial turned deadly. Teos had been winning most of the bouts and had just finished defeating Hept, but the youth the winning strike was not a mortal hit, and in his rage, he threw his practice sword at Teos, knocking the lad to the ground. He then jumped on the prone boy and began hitting him over and over until the instructors pulled him off. He was sanctioned and failed to graduate with the rest of the recruits, being forced to stay on another year as punishment. In time, he became a member of the town guard, and has recently risen to the rank of patrol leader in Bargetown. He still blames Teos for his being held back, and hassles the warrior whenever they meet.

3. Teos has somehow fallen afoul of the cult of Set (Lamashtu). Unknown to him, the cult attempted to murder the warrior. While walking the streets of the city he was set upon by 2 thugs. He defeated them, but thought this was simply an attempted robbery. What they want and what they might do, is unknown.

4. Teos has several friends who are also caravan guards, but the strange elven warrior Peren is probably his closest. He and Peren have worked together several times in the past few years. Teos has learned much from the elf, and counts him as a mentor. Peren is now semi-retired and lives in the Asp section of the city. Teos usually talks over any new contracts with Peren before he agrees to them.

5. A halfling girl (Rose) who worked at a local tavern (The Buxom Sphinx) got herself into a bit of trouble with a pesh (or another drug) dealer. She happened upon the dealers hidden stash and, not knowing what it was, discarded it. When he came back looking for it, he discovered the girl had taken it. He attempted to confront her after work one night, but Teos happened to be there and foiled his plans at interrogating her. Rose told Teos the story and he approached the dealer, a half-orc by the name of Belos. Belos wants either the product back, or the worth of the stash, or Rose will be sold into slavery.

6. Another childhood friend, Elki, is a merchant in the Asp section of the city. Teos and Elki try to get together once a month to drink and talk about old times. Sometimes Elki hears about a merchant who might need a guard and passes the information onto his friend. Elki sells mostly funerary supplies but also sometimes comes into possession of ancient artifacts.

Three key memories that define your character as the person they are at the time of submission.

1. Teos once saw a sphynx when he was young. It was this sighting that fueled his passion of them and his desire to become a Living Monolith.

2. Throughout his early years, Teos has witnesses strong and powerful people take what they want from those weaker than them. When his father lost their farm to the viceroy’s men, he vowed to always try and help those unable to protect themselves. He hates bullies and braggarts and will call them out when he encounters them.

3. Watching the flooding of the Sphinx River every year always filled the warrior with an awe and respect of nature. The river is life, as the desert is death, and the two are balanced together, like the living city and the dead.

Finally, I'd like you to include with your submission a fear or paranoia that causes your character to shiver, cower, or panic. Anything from spiders to unexplained happenstance, but I'm sure you'll all come up with some awful stuff on your own.

More than anything else, Teos fears large bodies of water. While he respects the great river, he does not fear it like he does the ocean. Having travelled once as a guard to the coastal city of Totra, the young man walked out onto one of the wharves and stared out into the endless waves. The vastness of the space and the thought of what might lie beneath the water terrified the warrior. He could not express this terror in words, but the sight froze him in his tracks and he started to tremble at the thought of the dark, cold depths of the ocean. He has refused any contract going to the coast since that time.
