Male Halfling Druid 2

Thanks JZ, it was fun!

Male Halfling Druid 2

"Not all. We rid Absalom of Nessian's foolish games and put an end to the potential threat of this Silent Tide. There is balance in all things, a natural order that has been restored against an unnatural darkness."

Tayllon scowls at his empty tankard, and Bear gives him an innocent look.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon raises a tankard and toast their lost comrade Aimo. As he sets the mug down, bear half empties it with one swipe of his thick tongue.

Male Halfling Druid 2

I thought I should inform you all that both of my computers are riddled with viruses and I will likely end up having to do a clean install of windows. I'm pretty busy with work and have to do that in my free time, so just in case I disappear for a couple of days now you know why. Tayllon will obediently follow any instructions to the best of his ability.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon heals Derryn AGAIN 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Bear tries to end the swordsman 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon wastes no time casting cure lights wounds on Derryn, then commands bear to attack the central swordsman.

CLW 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Halfling Druid 2

Did my wand use to heal bear not go off yet? If not then that is my action for this round, then heal Derryn at my next opportunity.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Whoever is the first one there will help...

Bear 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Tayllon 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (8) - 1 = 7

[/ooc]Pretty obvious who the most useful one is in this case[/ooc]

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon calls bear to him and uses his wand on his brave and battered friend...
Cure light wounds 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Lucian is much stronger than Bear, I think he is our best bet for opening the door. Also, forgot I had the wand. Apologies to all, I will focus on healing the next few rounds.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Strength not being Tayllon's forte, he attempts to aid someone else in breaking down the door.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon heads to the center door.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon leaves the fighters to their butcher's work and runs to the door, looking for a way to open it.

if there are any dogs left bear will attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon attacks dog #4...
Spear 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
damage 1d4 ⇒ 3

If dog #4 is dead, Tayllon instead pulls out his sling and tries to hit one of the archers...
Sling 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
damage 1d3 ⇒ 1

Bear attacks the most wounded dog...
Bite1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Halfling Druid 2

sorry, went away for the weekend and thought i would have internet access but the wifi at the campground was down due to weather conditions

Tayllon attacks dog #2 again, hoping to save Bear from further woe...
attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
damage 1d4 ⇒ 2

Bear attacks the most wounded looking dog...
Bear 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Male Halfling Druid 2

Sorry, only noticed Aimo's post and didn't realize we were in combat...

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Bear Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Tayllon orders bear to defend him and hits the first dog to reach him with his shortspear...
Attack1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
damage1d4 ⇒ 2

Bear bites the nearest charging dog...
attack1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
damage1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Male Halfling Druid 2

"I'm no musician, but that didn't sound like any hymn I have ever heard. I imagine that isn't a good sign, perhaps we should check the harbor for more of these spectral abominations?"

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon puffs up his chest and sings out in a tiny, quavering voice...

Perform 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon will move up to help Aimo, switching to his shortspear...
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Damage 1d4 ⇒ 1

Bear tries to bite the squirmy thing again...
Attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Halfling Druid 2

dang these pews make it hard not to get in each others' way

Tayllon fires yet another stone at the same spectre he just hit...
Sling 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
damage 1d3 ⇒ 3

Bear continues his headlong charge towards spectre #3 and attacks
Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Halfling Druid 2

Init 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bear Init 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Tayllon will order Bear to attack down whichever side is free when his turn comes (right if no one else has gone by that time), then use his sling to attack the first undead on that side.

Sling 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
damage 1d3 ⇒ 3

Bear
Bite 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

Male Halfling Druid 2

"Much as I'd like to agree with Keiran, I think Lucian has the right of it. If these creatures are about to poison the water supply or some such again I'd say we should take care of them. Nessian isn't going anywhere, it's his scheme that needs to be stopped."

Male Halfling Druid 2

Is it possible to take 20 on the flute box? If so, Tayllon will

Male Halfling Druid 2

Perform 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Bear groans and hides his ears under his paws.

DM JZ wrote:
The holes are too small for even Tayllon's little halfling fingers. In fact, the holes are just about the same size as a flute's ...

Tayllon checks to see if the writing on the chest matches up to the holes and tries blowing into one of them while covering various holes in a way that hopefully matches the writing.

Ok, I'll take the hint, subtle or otherwise.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Hmmm, Tayllon didn't notice the holes the first time around on the chest with the hidden compartment. He will first sniff them, then peer inside, then try sticking his tiny fingers in to feel for a latch...

Perception if needed (though you said it was done) I'm guessing it would be a dexterity check at this point if I'm going to trigger a trap...
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Male Halfling Druid 2

On a lark, Tayllon decides to try soothing the angry box with his animal skills...

Handle animal 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

"nice chest...goood chest...we're all friends here, now say 'ah'"

Male Halfling Druid 2

Sense motive on the second chest 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

oh man, I feel Keiran's pain all of a sudden.

Though different now sounds my name, the spelling still remains the same. Once prior to the leap of night, now becomes the birth of white.

"Sounds like one word that can be pronounced two ways... dusk is prior to the leap of night, but there isn't anything white about it and no other way to pronounce it. Maybe it has something to do with snow and winter nights? A blizzard, perhaps?"

Cursing their lack of a bard, Tayllon reviews his knowledge of the natural world for any ideas...
Knowledge check 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

"Perhaps someone strong among us should attempt turning the head on the first chest. I wouldn't suggest the paladin, however, as devil heads and holy warriors don't tend to mix."

Male Halfling Druid 2

I'm guessing the skill would be perception? I will make a check on each chest, but if you just want one roll for all of them then take the first one...

Doing his level best not to interfere with Derryn's work, Tayllon investigates each box carefully, hoping beyond hope not to set off any nasty traps...

1st iron 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
2nd red 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
3rd stone 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
4th also stone 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
5th wood 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10

Male Halfling Druid 2

"First chains, now safes" Tayllon thinks to himself, "will these city dwellers never grow tired of locking things away?"

With a sigh, he prepares to aid Derryn in whatever way he can.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon clears his throat uncomfortably and takes a not-so-subtle step away from Kieren... if there ever was a way to screw up talking to an underworld kingpin about making money, leave it to the paladin to find it!

OOC: Just goes to show, it is better to be lucky than to be good!

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon scratches Bear on the scruff of the neck and replies coolly,

"I don't expect a city torn asunder would bode well for those who live beneath it, hmm? Perhaps your interests do not diverge so far from our own."

Diplomacy 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon mutters to Aimo: "Do you suppose there is any hope he is grandmaster of the cookfire?"

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon looks meaningfully at his companions then back at Yargos...

"Why do I get the feeling this price is seldom paid with standard coinage?"

Male Halfling Druid 2
Lucian wrote:
"Agreed. Lets get moving"

"Indeed, but where? Didn't these creatures come from the sea?"

Male Halfling Druid 2

Init 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12

Bear is already defending him, so Tayllon will prepare his sling and attack

Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Damage 1d3 ⇒ 2

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon calls his bear to defend him and prepares his shortspear for the nasty work that lies ahead, ready to follow Lucien and the others through the door.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon follows Lucian, wincing all the while at the noise his companion makes. If only these warrior types would leave the sneaking to those with a little training...

¨How odd that these undead should be so clearly hunting for something, as if they are driven by some force other than their own foul desires.¨

Stealth1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Perception1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon rolls his eyes at Aimo's eagerness--and here he thought Kieran would be the one to drag them into this mess!

Regardless, undead are an abomination against nature and must be destroyed. If that peripherally involves saving Absalom, so be it... maybe they'll dedicate a new park to their saviors?

"Fat chance." He mutters to himself and prepares to head out after his friends.

"Those thugs are also captives in their own way, we should release them. Yargos even admitted it was his own fault."

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon shrugs at the possible threat--the fate of the city is nothing to him. A single book with that much power, however, is something that perhaps should not be burdening the natural world.

He plays with his bear, but listens intently to the conversation regardless, knowing that Kieran will entangle them in this business due to his strange sense of duty towards people who he has never so much as broken bread with.

Male Halfling Druid 2

"I hate to see any animal in chains, Yargos, so it looks like our debt to you is paid. Care to explain why 3 men are dead in your name, though?"

It would seem there are no wounded who are not dead amongst the captors, and since Kieran seems to be aiding the poor fellow who got sapped, I follow his direction and look around for a key to the chains. I then throw the chains off the cliff.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon draws his sling while moving towards the fray, then looses a bullet at the fleeing thug with the torch...

Sling attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Damage 1d3 ⇒ 3

Male Halfling Druid 2

Sorry, thought the bear and I shared init.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Tayllon orders his bear to defend Yargos, then casts entangle on the whole mess of men at cliffside.

Init:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Handle Animal:1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Male Halfling Druid 2

Woops, sorry, I got wrapped up in a whole bunch of other stuff this weekend, I will get caught up and post in the thread ASAP!

Male Halfling Druid 2

The spreadsheet looks good afaik. All done with my gear and trick selection, think I will hold onto my scimitar as back up just in case (though I feel a little overarmed).

How much of a back story did you want? I'm not sure which part of the world we are in, so I would have to be pretty vague I guess.

Male Halfling Druid 2

In the interest of transparency, I have just started GMing a PBP game for two RL friends of mine over the last couple of days (what can I say, I've been bitten by the RP bug again after many years away from PnP).

This will still be my first PBP as a player, and I look forward to learning more about how it is done from an experienced GM (I am already finding out how difficult it can be) but if my recent involvement in another thread disqualifies me from this one I understand and will regretfully yet gracefully bow out.

To be clear, I don't imagine the other thread will interfere with my ability to participate or post regularly here in any way and I still very much want to be involved.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Since Aimo is using a scimitar as well I will use my shortspear as my main weapon. The scimitar was just meant to be my back up in case I throw the spear, anyway.

Should be done my gear and tricks early this afternoon, almost done now anyway. I think I will take the wand of CLW, I can't really think of anything more useful in the price range. A MWK weapon wouldn't be as wise a choice in my case, I don't think.

You can have 8 slots of tricks for your bear.

Sorry to be thick, but do you mean 8 attempts at training him or 8 tricks with automatic success to train?

Thanks!

(Came back from early, darn leaky tent... its brand new, too!)

Male Halfling Druid 2

I'm going camping for the night, I'll check back in tomorrow sometime, probably during the evening.

Male Halfling Druid 2

Okay, I basically would want to teach him a few of the combat commands then (attack, come, down, guard). Most important would be attack and down, I suppose. I took defend as his bonus trick so he will at least protect me if worse comes to worst.
