Welcome back, Birch! =)

retired

Aw man, I am so sorry, Birch! You and your family have my sincerest condolences =(

"No, no alarm."

Rain's words, the first she's spoken since Iramine's capture, are flinty and cold. "Have the natives or storms been active since we entered the city?"

retired

Rain eyes Dusan suspiciously but otherwise remains silent.

retired

Rain's expression stays taut at Grob and Heledar's sentiments. She nods wordlessly and keeps mostly to herself, maintaining some distance between herself and the boys as they leave the golden city behind them. Her thoughts briefly wander to Grum and whether he's alright or not before settling once more on the evil of Iramine and the injustice of protecting her now.

Maybe we'll all die in one of those nasty storms and none of it will matter.

retired

Nope. Nor did we try to see if there's a way to shut down the flood!

retired

Rain maintains her angry silence and watches as the others hoist their captives up out of the naga's den. She waits, arms crossed, as the boys look about and decide whether they have the time and desire to explore the city before escaping.

retired

As the others struggle guiding the captives down into the naga's hole and then climbing back up the other side, Rain considers kicking Iramine down into the pit rather than watching one of her friends attempt the climb with her slung over a shoulder. She decides to do nothing though, and once everyone is moving across the coins and past the naga, she walks lightly across the rope spanning the gap.

Acrobatics (take 10): 10 + 10 = 20

retired

As the boys rustle up the captives and begin making ready to move out, Rain slips down from a perch atop the shoulder of one of the statues in an alcove. She waits expectantly for them to wrangle the prisoners out of the chamber and back to the naga then follows wordlessly along.

retired

Rain's countenance falls with Grob's and Rythanus' words. She cocks her head as if to say, 'Really?!' and her eyes begin to brim. Shaking her head, she throws her hands up and stalks off to the previous room. "That's fine! Pour salt in the wounds of all the people whose lives she ruined and give her evil more opportunities to rear up. That sure sounds right and noble to me!" Though her voice strains with emotion in her shout, the sarcasm in her last statement remains clear. In her wake, her words echo and hang heavy in the air.

retired

"The issue isn't with bringing a captive back, Heledar, it's this captive. It's Iramine. And the problem isn't that bringing her back would be difficult, it's that bringing her back would be wrong. She's hurt too many, wrought too much evil to bring her before the courts in Tamran where her money and corruption can see her spared. She doesn't deserve that."

Rain turns away from the group and takes a few steps away. She pauses for a moment before turning back around, "I know justice won't be fully served no matter what we do. Any punishment would pale in comparison to the pain and suffering she's brought into being. There's no way to balance that scale. I understand that. But ending her now is the option that most balances that scale and it also ensures she can't hurt anyone else."

"She's the architect of all that we've been struggling against, Heledar. I don't see how bringing her back alive and well is the just course."

retired

Rain frowns at the thought of Iramine being afforded so many chances to escape and further subvert what little justice might be served at this point. "What good does preserving her life serve? Taking her back for trial won't see justice done. At least, no more than we might serve here and now." She scowls darkly at the unconscious woman and adds, "She's responsible for all of it. What possible punishment or sentence could Tamran levy that would begin to approach what she is due?"

retired

"I think we should give Iramine here to the naga as proof we've accomplished what we promised. Let it have its way with her and we can bear the other Razmirans back to Tamran for trial." She pauses as she looks at the crumpled form of the chief Razmiran at their collective feet. A dark look clouds her face before she adds, "Though I'm sorely tempted to just offer the naga her head. Ending her evil can't be wrong and justice, whatever little of it might be had in this place, would still be served."

retired

With her voice silenced, Rain darts forward and rips Iramine's sword away, the blade falling to the dais without a sound.

I'm so glad I got into this game. You guys are a blast =)

Rain grimaces as the heat washes over her. Shaking her head and staring daggers at the masked woman on the dais, she focuses herself and intones a quick spell.

"You could listen to the reasonable man, or you could resist and put up a struggle. At this point, I'd rather you picked the latter."

"If you boys want to be cautious that's all well and good, but I think at this point we'd be better served by exploding into the room and surprising her. If you all disagree though, we can do it your way."

retired

Rain passes the wand of shield around the group as they gather by the door, a grim, steely look in her eyes. She adds to Rythanus' sentiment, "Let's hope we're in time to stop her too."

Since shield is a self-only spell, the only way you can get a dose Heledar is if it's a) on your spell list or b) you successfully pass a use magic device check.

retired

"It'll take me a few moments to cast a spell of my own, but I'll be able to separate her from her sword once it's cast. If you don't think we'll have the time, I can always try without the spell, but it'll be much less certain a thing that way." She looks at Grob and shrugs as she turns to the others, "He could just tackle her, right? Nobody could concentrate hard enough to finish a spell after being pancaked by Grob." A slight smirk plays at the edge of her mouth as she runs through the idea.

retired

Rain frowns at the news and crosses her arms. As she considers the cultist's words, she absentmindedly taps her index finger against her lips and paces slightly. She stops after a time and readies her crossbow and other equipment. She looks up at the others then and, with a nod, says flatly, "Well then, in that case, let's end things with this verzwarend* teef**, shall we?"

Rain lowers her whip and glowers at the cultists, "Where's Iramine?" He voice is ragged but sharp as she barks the question, any patience she once had for these fool cultists obviously spent at this point.

A snap of a whip heralds Rain's shimmering return to the visible world. She materializes ten feet behind the cultists even as the senior cultist finds his feet suddenly ripped out from underneath him and he crumples to a heap on the ground.

From somewhere behind the trio of cultists, a barely constrained snicker can be heard as Rumha's magical blade swishes harmlessly through the air.

retired

Rain slips around behind the approaching Razmirans and, rather than shatter the tenuous magics keeping her hidden with a premature attack, she instead invokes a quick spell.

As they enter the grand chamber, Rain jokes, "You'd think they could afford some pants and shirts with all this gold." As she shakes her head at the evocatitve statues, she notices the cultists lurking in the alcoves.

A dark expression falls across her face as she regards the remaining Razmirans. "Time to end this silly chase." She draws her sword in one hand and pulls a flask free with the other. As she begins to stalk into the room toward the west alcove, she drinks from the flask and vanishes from view.

"Ah, I think I got it." Rain rises and grins in the darkness. Opening the door, she dips into an exaggerated bow as she gestures to the room beyond the door. "After you, boys."

retired

Rain helps each of the others up out of the coin pit and turns to regard the door. She whistles lowly as she regards the complex lock set into the door. "Those stront voor de hersenen cultists reset the vervloekt lock. Maybe they had a key? Ugh. Maybe I can bypass it. Klootzak Razmirans..."

She kneels down beside the door and begins to gingerly test the various bits of the mechanism with a set of fine tools.

Disable Device: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19

retired

Rain still regards the naga with bald distrust, but she shrugs and looks across the divide to the others as if to say 'Your call, boys.'

retired

Rain's eyes narrow in suspicion at the naga's words, "We can pass now and as we depart unharmed, right?"

retired

Rain shrugs at the question. "Do we look like genies?"

retired

"Oh!" Rain gasps in surprise as the naga speaks. She then blushes in embarassment as she realizes she just casually discussed shooting it without realizing it understood her every word.

retired

Sorry I can't help with the ability damage, Rythanus. =(

retired

I think Birch said it was a dark naga? Eeep!

retired

As the figure bends down to the rope, Rain's shoulders sag. "Oh stront." Glancing down at the waiting naga below, she quicksteps across and just catches the lip of the far ledge as the rope falls free beneath her. Glowering at the shut door after she hauls herself up, she looks back across the way to the others and draws her crossbow. Gesturing toward the creature veritably swimming through the coins with the weapon, she looks to the group and shrugs as if asking 'Should we shoot it?'

Knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10

retired

is it knowledge arcana for info on the naga, birch?

retired

"Watch out down below - looks like someone's waiting for a snack."

retired

"And a low floor to boot. I can't imagine it'd feel nice falling onto all those coins." Rain looks around for a few long moments before offering with a shrug, "Well we have to cross I suppose. I'll test the rope?"

She gingerly tests the end of the rope with one foot, gradually easing her full weight onto the taut cord. As it seems to hold, she drifts out across the gulf, gliding comfortably along the rope with as much confidence as if it were solid ground.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27

retired

So sorry to hear that, Grob. =(

retired

No argument here. None of the items are all that helpful for Rain to have and she'd be more interested in the coin than the axes anyhow =)

retired

Rain nods at Heledar's suggestion, suddenly aware of the weariness in her legs and shoulders that had built up over the course of their scramble to the inner ring. "Probably somewhere not nearby to the skeleton dragon's horde we just pilfered though, right?" She adds a playful wink to the end of her question but then realizes her joke isn't as far from serious as she thought at first and casts a nervous glance back at the canal the boney beast dove into earlier. "Uhhhh... yeah, maybe we should hole up some place not near to here after all. Now that I think about it."

Rain's eyes glitter like the golden trove she spies in the nearby building. "Oooooo! Suddenly I don't think this place is all that bad." She rubs her hands together greedily and offers a sheepish grin to the boys, "I mean, this stuff isn't doing that skeleton any good. It'd be a crime to let it all sit here untouched for gods know how long."

{ooc]I figured Rumha's spell would end any hope of surprise and bring it rushing over in short order[/ooc]

retired

"It's that slecht* amulet thing they have! They can just walk by all these vervloekt** guardians and traps!" Rain's brow wrinkles in frustration as she readies for the approaching dragon. Her expression quickly shifts to a nod of approval though as Rumha's magics thunder into the skeletal beast.

Rain glances forlornly at her sword, "I can't imagine I'd be able to do much more than scratch its shiny finish with this. I could maybe slip behind it and make a distraction for some of you, but that's the best I've got." She shrugs and shakes her head, wondering if her contributions will be enough.

mechanically speaking, I'm talking about flanking and aid another actions

retired

I have comprehend languages, Birch, would that let me take a peak under the first spoiler?

Rain gulps as the large draconic skeleton begins to thunder its way toward the group. "Uhhhh... I don't know how to hurt that either." She hastily draws the wand of shield again and, after using it, hands it to Rythanus.

Hey guys, it just so happens that our intrepid GM's internet outage coincides with an annual camping trip of mine that will be this weekend. I'll be leaving mid afternoon on Thursday and won't be back until Sunday night, though there's a good chance I'll decide to stay an extra day.

There's no cell reception or internet or anything at the mountain top cabin we'll be staying at, so I'll be offline for the duration of the trip. Hopefully when I return we'll all be back up and running =)

retired

I like the idea of using obscuring mist and running past. If not that, then we should probably just wake em up and fight them.

retired

"Smoke might afford some cover to run by them." Regardless of what the group decides on, as they near a decision Rain shares a tap of her wand with Rythanus. "Just in case," she adds with a wink.
