Back Story:
Coming soon : Kayla's draft: Voss Vertassh and Veke Vadak were clutch-mates and bonded siblings. During adulthood they left Akiton and joined the Skyfire Legion. After a few years serving in the Legion a female ikeshti, Kishifray, joined their Skyfire unit. The three of them worked together in the Legion for a decade. Then Voss Vertassh and Veke Vadak started their rutting cycle. With Kishifray being the only female ikeshti in the sector of space they were assigned to, both made their interest known to her. Unfortunately for both males, Kishifray had not entered her rutting phase yet. The non-ideal situation lasted the better part of a year, when Kishifray finally entered her rutting phase. One night when alone with Voss Vertassh, Kishifray led him to believe she had chosen him over Veke Vadak and took him as her lover. When Voss and Veke saw each other the next day, each had a look of victory upon their faces. It did not take them long to discover that Kishifray had misled both of them and took both as lovers. The three of them resigned from the Skyfire Legion and headed back to Akiton so that Kishifray could lay her clutch in the ancestral desert of their homeworld. As it was unclear whether Voss or Veke was the father of the growing clutch of eggs in Kishifray's womb, or if they were both the father. They had time during their travel back to Akiton how they would handle the traditional deathmatch. During the talks, Voss discovered that his impression that he had been the first to lay with Kishifray was not true, and that Veke was. So they decided that since Veke was the first to lay with Kishifray he would be the first to face her in a fight to the death. After Kishifray laid her eggs, Voss Vertassh tended to them as Kishifray and Veke Vadak prepared for their fight to the death. Kishifray defeated Veke Vadak. As Voss Vertassh got ready to fight Kishifray, she stopped him and turned it into a celebration of her life for defeating Veke, and Voss Vertassh and Kishifray mated again instead of fighting to the death. Kishifray became a congregrant to the clutch by rejoining the Skyfire Legion while Voss Vertassh stayed on Akiton to become brood-minder to the clutch. Less than a year after she rejoined the Skyfire Legion, Kishifray returned, once again with a clutch of eggs growing inside her. She laid her second clutch in another 'room' of the huge cavern that was the home of the Skyfire brood.. Unlike Veke Vadak a year earlier, Voss Vertassh was victorious during his fight to the death with Kishifray. Before the second clutch was laid, and Voss Vertassh was tending to Kishifray's first clutch of hatchlings, one of the young ikeshti males, Squanch, became obsessed with the three Skyfire Legion jactets that were hung up as a type of banner in the brood's home. Two of the jackets are badly torn (Veke Vadak's and Kishifray's, which were torn during their fight to the death) and the undamaged jacket was Voss Vertassh's. Their clutch become known as the 'Skyfire brood' and through Voss Vertassh's adept social maneuvering on Akiton, ikeshti soul-soothers, congregrants and brood-minders started to use the Skyfire brood's home as an important trading destination between the different families and clans local to the region. Young Squanch quickly associated the Skyfire Legion being the reason for the prestige of his clutch and the seeds of wanting to one day join the Legion took root deep within him. Although Voss Vertassh defeated Kishifray in their fight to the death, he was severely wounded, and it took a few months for him to fully recover from his wounds. While he was recovering, his movements were limited. He could tend to the new clutch (he knows with certainty he fathered all the eggs) but could not climb the walls of the cavern to reach the main chamber of the cavern, where Kishifray's first clutch lived and was being raised. Another brood-minder took over duties for the first clutch during his months of recovery. After a few months of recovery, Voss Vertassh was able to once again travel from the first clutch to the second clutch. Voss Vertassh stated that the brood-minder who was taking care of the first clutch during his absence had earned the right to continue to be the brood-minder for the first clutch of the Skyfire brood, with the stipulation Voss Vertassh retained the right to choose any of the young ikeshti from the first clutch and add them to the second clutch. Squanch was among the younglings that Voss Vertassh added to the second clutch. Although still considered part of the Skyfire brood, not having the Skyfire Legion jackets as part of his new 'home' only made Squanch's yearning to join the Skyfire Legion one day become stronger. * * * The other ikeshti do not know something that only Voss Vertassh knows (and Kishifray & Veke Vadak knew): that Voss Vertassh also mated with Kishifray before she laid her first clutch of eggs and might be the father of the first Skyfire brood clutch. Maybe the reason Voss Vertassh removed himself from Jayne's mystic bond had to do with that secret being revealed to be known by someone else... * * * The week that Voss Vertassh went missing. While Crusher, Sisko, Wildman and Jayne were in Khefak Depot... In addition to her three bonded brothers being part of her mystic bond (from class), Voss Vertassh is also part of her mystic bond. Jayne, through the mystic bond, knew that brood-minder Voss Vertassh became badly injured. Being three days away, she could not use her vitality network to heal Voss Vertassh. Her and her brothers started to head home from Khefak Depot earlier than planned to find out what happened. During their first day of traveling home, Jayne knows that Voss Vertassh was being healed...and then suddenly she could no longer sense her brood-minder as being part of her mystic bond. *** When Crusher, Sisko and Wildman fell when the gluttonworm caused the ground beneath them to fall away, she sensed through her mystic bond all of them getting hurt as they fell. She tried to heal Crusher (the medic) through her vitality network, but all of her brothers had fallen more than 60 feet below where the surface of the ground was just moments earlier. Then she sensed each of them die via her mystic bond with them. They are still part of her mystic bond...death does not remove it. She can sense if they are being moved, become alive again, etc. As she will never decide to remove her three bonded brothers from her mystic bond, and since Voss Vertassh removed himself from her mystic bond, she has room to add seven others to it. That will be some roleplaying to have Kala Jayne add other PCs. The first PC (aside from herself) that will be added to her mystic bond will be Squanch (if he does not prevent it). From Kala Jayne's perspective, him being alive brings her some salvation of hope that some of her clutch-mates and other older siblings might also be alive. |
