About Sophia Orlovsky

Backstory:

Sophia was born as to Frederick Orlovsky, a minor noble belonging to a distant branch of the Orlovsky family in Brevoy, and his wife, Elise Silsovern, a beautiful dancer from a family renowned for its talented performers, leading some to believe they had Azata blood in their heritage.

Sophia's appearance certainly did seem to support that notion, as she was born with silvery hair and golden eyes, and like her mother and siblings, she showed an innate talent for magic and the arts.

But something was missing from the typical court dances she had been taught. It was during one of her aunt Nadia's visits that she found her true calling. Nadia was a master dancer herself and a follower of Sarenrae, one who had learned to blend her dancing and martial skills with a scimitar into a beautiful and deadly dance. During a sparring match between her aunt and her brother Eric, a paladin of Shelyn in training, she became entranced by their fighting styles. Afterwards, she asked them to teach her and, under their guidance, Sophia developed her own style, a graceful dance using glaive and magic.

After she felt confident enough in her skills, she started attending as many tournaments and fighting competitions as she could, doning a Songbird mask and wig dyed in the colors of the rainbow, both for artistic effect (the audience loves mystery fighters!), and to protect her family from any noble who might not take a defeat at her hands too well.

That's exactly what happened in the end, though. During a particular intense fight with a vain and arrogant noble name Sivan Surtova, he managed to unmask Sophia just before she brought him down. While she managed to keep her identity concealed from the rest of the audience, it was enough for Sivan to recognise her.

While he kept her identity a secret, not wanting others to know who exactly had bested him, he turned his sights on the rest of her family as revenge soon afterwards, making ample use of his connections and better political standing to hinder them whenever possible.

Given her family preference for avoiding conflicts, and knowing that, as things stood, any direct confrontation would just make things worse, Sophia decided to "exile" herself by joining an expedition into the Stolen Lands - hoping her vanishing from the social scene is enough to pacify Sivan, and if it goes well, it might be the way to get her and her family the political power and recognition they need to fight back.
