The ninja clearly gave a new system, they just didn't do it well. I like the ninja ki system, I just think it needed to be done in a bit more complex way. Here are my changes to the class to make the ninja class more adaptive. I have the full version but there are copy right laws I would be infringing on. Skills and skill bonuses are simple as a skill that got combined with another they get the combination. Here are the quick notes on how I changed the class. I made it so that they are majorly focused on Int. While this makes it a lot more likely to get more Ki, a lot of things now are greatly more dependent on Ki. 1. Perception can be changed to Int. 2. Ninja Ki and AC are based on Int. 3. Ki bonus to saves are now both Will and Fort. 4. 1/2 the sneak attack damage is dependent on Ki for its use. 5. They now get access to Evasion at same level as rogue, but costs Ki till later on. 6. They now get access to Uncanny Dodge at same level as rogue, but costs Ki till later on. 7. Ghost step is powered down a little to make balancing room for the new abilities, plus in actual game play it is found to be too powerful actually, specially with some feats. ____________________________ Table 1–1: The Ninja
Class Features
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: *No Changes* Adaptive Trapfinding (Ex): A ninja can use the Search skill to locate traps with a DC higher than 20, and she can use Disable Device to bypass a trap or disarm magic traps. See the rogue class feature, page 50 of the Player’s Handbook. A ninja may use ether their Wisdom or Intelligence modifier for perception checks. AC Bonus (Ex): A ninja is highly trained at dodging blows, and she has a sixth sense that lets her avoid even unanticipated attacks. When unarmored and unencumbered, a ninja adds her Inelegance bonus (if any) to her Armor Class. This ability does not stack with the monk’s AC bonus ability (a ninja with levels of monk does not add the bonus twice). In addition, a ninja gains a +1 bonus to AC at 5th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every five ninja levels thereafter (+2 at 10th, +3 at 15th, and +4 at 20th level).
Ki Power *Changes as following* plus her Inelegance bonus (if any) instead of Wisdom. As long as a ninja’s ki pool isn’t empty (that is, as long as she has at least one daily use remaining), she gains a +2 bonus on her Will and Fort saves. Sneak Attack (Ex): As a rogue; at what levels listed above. Ninjutsu Step (Su): Starting at 2nd level, a ninja can spend one daily use of her ki power to become like a chameleon and be partially invisible for 1 round. Using this ability is a swift action that does not provoke attacks of opportunity. This ability functions like invisibility, except it only grants +10 bonus to stealth checks instead of +20. There is still a 50% miss chance when striking the square the ninja is in while activating the chameleon effect, unless the ninja is running in which there is only a 25% miss chance. Chameleon Effect
At 10th level, a ninja can become phased when using ghost step instead of becoming partially invisible. While being phased, it works in every way as being ethereal, except you are not completely invisible. Your invisibility bonuses improve to being the similar to being fully invisible (+20 stealth), however you can not be detected with blind sight, blind sense, scent, tremor sense, or other abilities other than visual perception. You can not be hit from things on the material plain, except by those with the see invisible ability or spell up, and targeted with force effects. You can not hit those on the material plain, except with the ghost strike ability. See “ethereal” in the DMG. So the ninja may become ethereal except not completely invisible to the material plain. Ki Evasion (Su): Beginning at 2nd level, a ninja can avoid damage from certain attacks with a successful Reflex save by using their ki. (See the monk class feature, page 41 of the Player’s Handbook.) A ninja’s use of evasion differs slightly from a monk’s use in that a ninja needs to expend 1 point of ki, and the effect lasts for 1 round. This ability can be used at any time, and as many times as they have ki points remaining. If the ninja already has the Evasion or Ki Evasion ability from another class or an item they gain the Improved Ki Evasion ability (see below). Focused Strike (Su): With the activation of this ability a ninja uses her ki to gain a greater degree of focus when performing sneak attacks. At the cost of 1 ki, a ninja increases the damage their sneak attack does by 1D6 and grants them a +1 to hit when performing such attacks on targets vulnerable to sneak attacks. To activate this ability and the effect lasts for 1 round. This ability can be used at any time, and as many times as they have ki points remaining. This ability improves as a ninja increases in level; at level 4, and ever four levels there after, a ninja’s focused strike bonus damage increases by 1D6. The bonus to hit also increases by +1 at level 4, and ever four levels there after. This effect lasts for 1 round Versatility: A ninja is well know for being very versatile and full of tricks. At 3rd level they can chose to gain a bonus feat that they meet the prerequisites for, or gain the poison use ability (ex). The feat may be any feat, except a craft magical item feat, feats requiring a caster level, feats requiring the ability to spell at a specific level, a meta-magic feat, or other feat associated with casting a spell.
Danger Sense (Su): Starting at 4th level, a ninja can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC (if any) even if she is caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. However, she still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. To activate this ability, a ninja needs to expend 1 ki, and the effect lasts for 1 round. This ability can be used at any time, and as many times as they have ki points remaining.
Great Leap (Su): *No Changes* Acrobatics (Ex): *No Changes* Ki Dodge (Su): *No Changes* Speed Climb (Ex): *No Changes* Ghost Strike (Su): *No Changes* Improved Danger Sense (Ex/Su): At 8th a ninja gains the normal Uncanny Dodge (Ex) ability, now no longer needing to spend ki to use it. She may now use the Improved Uncanny Dodge ability (Su) but a ninja needs to expend 1 point of ki, and the effect lasts for 1 round. This ability can be used at any time, and as many times as they have ki points remaining. Improved Versatility: Starting at 9th level, a ninja can chose another feat with the same restrictions as Versatility, or chose Improved Poison Use (Ex) but only if they are evil.
Improved Ki Evasion (Ex): Beginning at 12th level, a ninja’s evasion improves to normal Evasion, as they don’t have to spend ki anymore to use it.
Ghost Presence (Su): *No Changes* Ghost Sight (Su): *No Changes* Greater Ki Dodge (Su): *No Changes* Ghost Walk (Su): *No Changes*
I swear this drunkard is rubbing off on me. We found a Hearo (sp?) deck of many things. I drew as many as I could, but luckily things turned out nicely for me. 1. I can now move a lot faster and can do a sprint of 320ft in just a few seconds, and can jump 400ft in the same time with my special training! 2. I am much more stronger willed and generally tougher. 3. I can now teleport at will and a number of extra weight once and only once. 4. My prized goggles got destroyed!!! (It was those or one of my party members so meh) 5. I now have 5 doubles of myself after me now. 6. I also seemed to have attracted the special attention of a fiend who has a nasty plan for me. Others in our group didn't do as well, but some did a lot better.
Hello, I am Ricket. I find my self continually perplexed with this drunkard cleric of ours. I often find myself worrying about our safety as he is responsible for keeping all of us alive. This was not noted above, I think, but once I actually switched one of Karrd's alcoholic beverages with an anti toxin. I was hoping this would sober him up a bit, but he just got himself more drunk as soon as it started to take effect. My recent exploits into alchemy seems to be driving me to make a stronger, or at least longer lasting, antitoxin to help keep him more sober. While I do see him as a valid and very helpful member of our rag-tag group, I find his constant drinking to be disturbing. I often wonder how his body can handle it, and maybe it might one day fail him. I know I am not as much interested in "partying" as these humans, dwarfs, etc. but this guy is in favor of drinking to the extreme by any standards! Well things have been alright so far. |
