Recently, Lexarius acquired the services of a Dragonne that he met while in the World's Edge Mountains. During a mission to Stavian's Hold, he heard a rumor of animal trafficking on rare but intelligent animals that resided in the mountains. Using his contacts, Lexarius eventually tracked the bandits to a camp at the base of the mountains where he encountered the Dragonne. During the chaotic melee, Lexarius was able to free its mate and offspring, to which the Dragonne pledged his services in reward. N Large magical beast

Backstory:
Sir Lexarius Rubicon - Lexarius is the third son of Menelaus Rubicon, an unlanded duke who's family titles all reside within the lost land of revolutionary Galt, and Eustacia Rubicon, a well connected - and more importantly very rich, socialite of the royal court. Despite his rich upbringing, Lexarius - or Lex, never cared much for the politics of the social gatherings his family was forced to attend to. With four other siblings, two older brothers and two younger sisters, there was plenty for them to do in his stead. Despite belonging to Taldor's upper class, Menelaus was a military man at heart, and a retired general in Taldor's Army, who wet his blade more than once on the Empire's southern borders in the usual skirmishes - and was lucky enough to avoid the brunt of the pointless brushfire wars that embroiled segments of the Taldan Phalanx at the behest of the nobility. Lex and his eldest brother Cyrus at least took to their father's martial bent, and both were eager to become fine warriors. Which suited his brother Gavrill and his younger sister Iris just fine, while they spent their time with their scheming mother and the decadent court intricacies. Kyra, being the youngest, was too young in those early years to really be anything but a babe in the woods that was dotted on. Cyrus eventually secured himself a Lieutenantship among the Imperial Navy, while Lex sought a posting with the Taldan Army, vigorously taking to the countryside to rid the roads of bandits wherever he could. Lex quickly earned himself a reputation as a diligent officer and an unbribable one, severely surprising the first bandit who tried to pay him off like business as usual, and who only pushed his soldiers as hard as necessary to complete his mission. He even distinguished himself on one occasion by persuading the Captain of another contingent to stand down in the middle of a squabble by other minor nobility, earning him the appreciation of the soldiers under both commands who'd been spared a needless death in civil conflict. Above all else though, Lexarius has dreamed of trying to restore the Empire to its glory, and spoken lengthily to any who would listen about the Empire's past - startling those around him with his fervor over what many had assumed was just lip service to the crown. However, it was at a dinner party of which he'd been forced to attend that fate had changed his course. It was there that he met Princess Eutropia, a stunning beauty that had somewhat enraptured him. He couldn't figure out how to approach her until he spotted someone slip something into her drink when she looked away, leading him to quickly storm forward and knock the glass from her hand. The man was apprehended later, and was rewarded appropriately, though he could have asked for a meaningless title or promotion, he instead requested to be placed in Eutropia's personal guard. It was there he could speak with her more at length about her ideas, eventually becoming enraptured with her political ambition. He decided that she was one of two keys that would unlock the future for Taldor, and pledged himself to her cause. His position shifted from a Captain in the Imperial Horse, to one in Eutropia's guard, though he still undertook missions outside of the capital at her behest. Unfortunately, his brother Cyrus was soon found dead, murdered aboard his ship. His eldest brother's death crushed both him, and his father, who became a recluse in mourning - a shell of his former self. To this day, Lexarius suspects his older brother Gavrill of being complicit in the murder; especially with him most to gain as the inheritor of the family house now and had since tasked the youngest of them - Kyra, with watching over father and keeping him safe from other such attempts. Lexarius has distanced himself even further from court politics where he can following his brother's murder, though he works on creating a support base in the army for himself and Eutropia. At the moment, he is trying to get a feel for where the Lion Blades stand on her ascension, given their unconditional support for Stavian. Goals: 1. Seat Eutropia on the throne. Though Lexarius finds Stavian a competent and successful monarch, he disdains the game of politics that the Taldan court has become, which Stavian embodies. Above all else, he wishes for her to abolish the Bearded and sweep the senatorial class mostly from power. 2. To find and retrieved the Worldbreaker. He believes this to be the second key to Taldor's future. With the Worldbreaker returned, Taldor need no longer fear Qadira and would be free to turn north and reconquer Galt. Lex wishes to propose and lead the Ninth Army of Exploration into the Mwangi to recover the artifact. 3. To become commander of the entire Taldan Army. Lexarius believes if he is able to return the Worldbreaker, he may be able to ask Stavian a suitably high position to achieve such. At which point, he could finally end the infighting of the Phalanx and Horse. Secrets: 1. He quite fancies Eutropia, despite the impropriety of such feelings, especially from her own guard no less. He has kept it to himself and would never jeopardize her position about it though. 2. He witnessed his brother Gravill speaking with a cohort of his and their first sister Iris the night before Cyrus was murdered. He did not think anything of this, and now suspects they were plotting Cyrus' death. 3. He is not quite as selfless as he tries to make himself seen, and is somewhat obsessed with obtaining power and his own personal glory - desiring to see his and Taldor's fates intertwine. He seeks to remove Gavrill from the line of succession and restore his families lands. Relations: Detective Blackhart: Lex first met Robert during the aftermath of his investigation into the attempt on Eutropia's life. Since then he has worked closely with the man on many cases, typically using the authority of his position as a Royal Guard and its immunity from the usual aristocratic wrist tying to help Robert bring in corrupt bureaucrats and nobles. Both keep similar goals and have a close working relationship. Opilio Damasus: Both cut from largely the same cloth, Opilio reminds Lex fondly of his older brother Cyrus, including their love of the sea. That said, Lex is far more familiar with Opilio's uncle with whom he works close with. Admiral Kasaba: Although Lex isn't on a first name basis with the head of the Imperial Navy, he considers her a rival of sorts. Both have frequently butted heads, usually over the matter of funding. Lex feels the gold that goes to support her ships would be better spent expanding the Taldan Horse and allow them to really root out the nation's interior. He has a grudging respect for the woman though. Kol Kodranson: Lex has a terse relationship with the latest commander of the Ulfen Guard, as they typically have to coordinate security for the royal family. Lex appreciates their resolute loyalty and ability to protect the prince, but finds them personally rather distasteful. He is also cautious of their adherence to the crown - rather than the person wearing it, and suspects Kol might be an obstacle to Eutropia. Defenders of the Realm: Lex is a member of this order and has sworn his loyalty to Princess Eutropia. He gains access to the Iron Tortoise discipline in exchange for the Solar Wind discipline, gains Bluff as a class skill, and a +2 to Knowledge Local/Nobility/Religion checks as well as Fortitude saving throws. Personality & Appearance: Lexarius is a rather tall man at 6'4" and is quite muscularly broad shouldered. He is of mixed Taldan and Azlanti descent, with short combed back blonde hair and piercing purple eyes that mark his mixed descent. He wears a set of gold tinted Mithral armor that he forged himself, elaborate trimming and motifs of his favored god - Abadar, with a short blue cape that hangs from his pauldrons. Lex considers himself very stylish and somewhat flamboyant, with an air for presentation, having commissioned at least one painting of him standing heroically in his armor. Yet, despite carrying the social status to wear a beard in Oppara, curiously chooses not to - much to the scoffing of his peers. Lex communicates his association with the unbearded by this choice. A level headed no nonsense person, Lexarius never fit into the court life and intrigue in which he grew up in. Though capable of telling a lie, who in the Taldan upper class couldn't? Lexarius' straightforwardness constantly got in the way of his social life. He finds making friends difficult and trusting those around him even harder, constantly wary of betrayal. Most of all though, he is a glory seeker, and quite ambitious, even for his position - though he confines himself to a code of ethics that he believes sets him apart from the royal court and above the senatorial class. Despite this, Lexarius never takes credit for accomplishments not his own, a quite strange practice in the Taldan military. A true patriot, he believes deeply in his causes, and is well able to inspire those around him with the same belief. Not only that, but he has worked hard to empathize with those under his command to earn their trust, even forsaking occasional privileges of rank to show those under his command his care for them. Lexarius considers the law the most important institution of civilization, and the abuse of it by Taldor's bureaucracy a mockery of the nation once devoted to Aroden. His father Menelaeus raised him with a strict code of honor, which greatly influenced his first command and his politics. Lex is also fairly devout member of the faith of Abadar, feeling that he most represents the virtues of civilization and an example of prosperity - which is why he has adopted many of the appearances of his god. As a Knight of the realm, he has often arbitrated the law to the best of his ability and has a reputation for being just in his trials - much to the chagrin of corrupt bureaucrats that get in his way.
