Silo’s story began when the village of Sweetrice was razed in a war between two minor nobles that both clamed fiefdom over it. Why Silo’s parents were in the village at the time no one knows but they where among the dead when the fighting ended. Silo who was an infant at the time was found by the human woman Lydda Mezzo.
Lydda the wife of Dean Mezzo had been trying to have a child for the better part of the last 5 years. A year before the razing of Sweetrice she had been with child but was unable to come to term. The loss of the child weighed heavily on her and when she saw Silo the infant child who had lived though the destruction of the village she took it as a sign and adopted the child as her own. Dean didn’t take it as a sign he saw it as a complication to his already complicated enough life.
Dean was the leader of the Tiger Fang mercenary company and though it wasn’t the biggest or the highest profile mercenary company in the land it was seen by those who cared about such things as one of the most effective. The addition of a child much less a child that wasn’t his own or even human was not welcome by Dean.
Growing up in the shadows of a mercenary company Silo learned how to handle a sword and how to exploit the weakness of his enemies.
