About Shayla Firechild
The infant was born somewhere in Varisia, where in Varisia no one really knows. What her real name is no one knows either. Her parents were travelers that had taken up refuge in a farmer’s barn one night during a terrible thunder storm. They had told the farmer that they were travelling to Magnimar but a couple more days’ journey away. Sometime in the middle of the night the barn was struck by a devastating bolt of lightning and all the dry straw and hay caught fire. The family had been unable to escape the flames. Once the fire was out the farmers found the baby apparently untouched by the fire except for an angel shaped burn on the back of her neck. She carries the scar even today.
The farmer and his goodwife took care of the infant until they could take her into Magnimar. They dropped the little child at an orphanage, relating to the mistress of the house the tale of how they came to have her. Having no known name, the mistress of the orphanage named her Shayla Firechild. The lady was telling the story around Magnimar and it eventually came to a local priestess of Sarenrea. The priestess, Marigold Fairweather adopted Shayla from the orphanage to raise her in her small shrine.
As Shayla got older she become a devote follower of Sarenrea and eventually became a priestess herself. One evening a woman named Sheila Heidmarch brought a wounded Pathfinder agent to Marigold for healing. While recouping from his injuries he regaled Shayla with stories of being a Pathfinder and some of the adventures he had. Shayla was very intrigued about these people and their organization. Shayla went and visited Sheila and learned more about the Pathfinders. Having had a few little adventures, Shayla thought that the Pathfinders might just be the place for her. She was very intrigued about what ancient relics and knowledge she could learn about Sarenrea through exploration.
When Shayla was just a few days past eighteen years of age, she boarded a ship for Absalom to visit the Grand Lodge and hopefully get accepted and trained into the Pathfinder Society. The voyage was pretty much uneventful as far as danger goes. Shayla had used what little money she had to pay for passage. She used her skills of healing to make a bit of coin during the trip. Upon debarking from the ship, the captain gave her his tricorn hat as a reminder them.
Shayla is a tiny girl at five foot nothing, slender but does have some muscle. Some have been known to call her wiry. She has long red hair and hazel eyes. Her skin is pale and unblemished. She can be a bit of a hot head when roused, but that takes some doing, as she is a patient girl with a boat load of tolerance. Shayla has an adventurous soul and is up for anything that sounds like it could be dangerous.
Shayla does not dress in the traditional clothing of a Sarenrae priestess, but has grown to love the billowy cloths worn by sailors. She does tend to pick the colours red and sky blue more than the other two colours white and gold of the religion. I guess you could say she is an alternative dresser.
