The Exchange

M Human 1st Druid

I know little of civilized Katapesh, I fear. Save for a night here or a night there, in between travels, I walk the caravan routesm following the family trade, as guard and guide. I do, perhaps, know more about the local spices than I ever cared to, as it seems that merchants like nothing more than to practice their haggling skills on a captive audience...

Shadrach smiles at the antics, reflecting that Qafir, unlike a cat, had no sense of dignity at all, "His name is Qafir, which is a poor joke on my part, since he would sometimes make a coughing noise, as a pup."

Shadrach smiles at Nuvenil's blunt commentary, as he has spent his few moments of conversation speaking of desert wildlife, hazards and weather conditions, and found Eli to be one of the few present who seems unschooled on matters of survival, which, to his mind, means he has no business being out here...

While they travel, he spends time with sling in hand, sometimes swinging it lazily in time with his pace, watching for signs of edible fauna, to supplement their meals.

At his other hand, his desert wolf companion walks, flashing his fangs in annoyance as a fly attempts to land near his eye. Qafir is remarkable for a sandy-brown coat with tufts of reddish fur at ears and along his neck, as if dipped in drying blood.

Shadrach himself often keeps a veil over his lower face, but has allowed it to fall aside as their shadows grow long before them, his scraggly beard revealing his youth.

Your friendly neighborhood healer, it looks like, although I have to check my stuff, since the last time I (briefly) played this character, I realized that his lack of a decent ranged weapon was brutal.

Added some darts and a sling.

Any house rules of relevance? (bonus weapon prof for humans, he says fishingly...)

Speaking softly, as the others should be attempting to sleep, Shadrach replies, "I saw none, only signs of their passage, but my companion has better trained senses. There were times in the dark, I couldn't even see her..." he admits with a grin.

He takes out some rations and softens them with water from his waterskin, before handing them to the desert wolf that stands beside him.

Shadrach has a somewhat perplexed look on his face as he attempts to decipher Losk's intent from his accented words. "That sounds agreeable. Rest and we will watch for any sign of danger."

"Garavel tasked us to come render assistance. We had been on an extended scouting patrol when you arrived in our camp, so we have not met earlier." Shadrach says abruptly, as he continues to heap sand over smouldering cloth.

Shadrach begins searching for a means to smother the flames crawling across the rafters, as he vaguely recalls that we were meant to secure this monastary as a base camp, not burn it to the ground...

He will start by attempting to pull down smoldering cloth and cover it with sand, and is cursing himself for not having prepared create water today.

Shadrach, you may need to explain to me how summoning works in case I'm being thick. I posted actions for the eagle for the last round (happily with the same effect as the ones you posted) as I understood the spell to read that the eagle appeared and acted in the casting round during your turn. With a duration of one round it's now gone, hasnt it?

Shadrach waggles his fingers for a full round, and on the next round, the eagle appears, gets one round of action, and then vanishes at the end of the round. Same effect, just it doesn't appear until the round after the spellcasting.

Round 2 summoned Eagle attacks on the archer in L8.

Talon 1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12 damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Talon 2 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Bite 1 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10 damage 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Shadrach finishes his casting and a desert raptor screams out of the smoky air in front of one of the archers, attacking in a wild flurry of slashing talons accompanied by a piercing shriek.

Shadrach himself moves towards the ally who appears most damaged by the tiny arrows the aggravating creatures are firing, with Qafir at his side.

Heal check to see who appears most damaged. 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Qafir remains on the alert for any of the creatures that come down within his reach, while Shadrach steps forward a pace and begins making claw-like gestures with both hands, while speaking words in Druidic.

Casting Summon Nature's Ally, to call up an Eagle, which will appear mid-air in J8 on the next turn and move forward one square and make a full attack on the pugwampi in L8.

"Some sort of immature gnoll?" Shadrach replies with uncertainty, "I have seen nothing of the sort..."

He readies a dagger to throw at the creature, should it prove hostile and begins moving towards the chapel, one hand on Qafir's shoulder, urging restraint.

"We should enter quickly, if those sent ahead are in danger."

Shadrach selects the best chunks of stew to hand-feed the fierce looking desert wolf, leaving himself mostly broth, as he can better subsist on rations. He good-naturedly turns from cook to cook as they finish each others sentences, looking somewhat like he is watching some sort of sporting event as his head swivels to regard each speaker in turn.

"If you are ready, Miss Felicia," he says with a smile, using the same form of address used by the cooks, "you should probably lead the way, as it is your area of expertise."

Felicia knows quite well that desert survival and navigation is also Shadrach's 'area of expertise,' and that he's just being silly again. She's gotten the notion in their time together that he's not terribly familiar with halflings, and swings from treating her as if she's younger than he is, to being unnecessarily formal, and coming across as a bit parochial, if not unintentionally condescending...

Shadrach agrees to Garavel's instructions, and quickly bothers Hadrah and Hadrod for any cold, leftover stew to share with Qafir, as rations have left neither of them satisfied.

He is frustrated at having seen no signs of Haleen in his observations, but securing the monastary seems like a sensible position from which to further scout the town.
