'Alright,' Gesrio stands up slowly, with a wince.

'I don't need anything, leave them, I'll contact the authorities and have them rounded up.'

'Lets go to the bakery!'

"Is that your safe place ?", says Shaan grabbing his cloak and his pack. "We should move there quickly."

When the group moves, Shaan will keep an alert eye for further threats.
Perception check (1d20+6=10+6=16) (+2 for humans).

As the healing energies wash over her, Reinala is able to relax from the pain. She frowns as Shaan knocks out the remaining thug and says, "Well, suppose you let me try talking to him when next he wakes, hmm? He may appreciate my touch a bit more.

"As for you, Gesrio... I'll see where this goes. But when I don't like it, I walk."

"You're welcome to it Reinala, I just wanted to have our host full story before talking to this guy. And I guess I'm just too used to work on my own.... Anyway, I doubt we will get anything from him. If he could mutilate himself so that he will never interact normally with people, he must be ready to die for his masters."

Turning to Gesrio.
"As I've already told you, I'm listening Mr Temern. I'll help you as much as I can. But as your friend said, you should seek a safer haven once we're done here."

"So does this mean we're adventurers now? I mean, if it does, well that's just...just...WOW! I never thought I'd get a chance to make a job change. Working in the potion shop was really unfulfilling , you know. Did you realize that old codger wanted me to sweep up every night before I left? Oh, by the way, what did you think of that spell I cast? Was the red too dark? Because I can lighten it a bit. Anyway, like I have time to mess with sweeping up good clean, dirt after toiling all day..." Eljah once again realizes he is rambling and stops himself. "So fellow adventurers," he says with a toothy grin, "Where do we head now?"

Listening to the Eljah's ramblings, a smile creeps to Shaan's lips and he feels the tension slowly leave him. "You know, Eljah, I'm afraid sweeping will still be required in your new job." While talking, he moves towards the struggling prisoner and draws his sap. "We should sort this one out when we have all the information we need from our host," he says as he knocks the prisoner senseless.

I'm guessing it's allowed to do that with a weapon dealing only non lethal damage.

He then hauls the three copses near in the alcove of the house. Come on, Eljah, help me with them. That's what us, people of the Shadow are good at, sweeping and cleaning," he says with a smile as he piles the corpses weapons and armor in another corner of the room.

They came through the roof and down from the attic, but I don't want to try to track them back without light,says Shaan closing the hatch from where the attackers arrived.

Shaan walks down the stairs to the others. Maybe we should put our host in his bed or in one of the armchairs by the fire. I would be better for him.

Turning towards Andreas and pointing at the bound agressor, he adds :You seemed to know the house. Do you know if there is a cave or a cellar where we could secure this thug. I don't think it would be good for him to hear what Gesrio wanted to tell us.

Reinala: In searching the men you pull back one's hood, drawing back in disgust as they have drooled all over their fronts. The leering unconcious faces have no lips and the tips of their tongues are removed, giving them a hideous eternal grin.

They all wear black cloaks over black studded leather armor and each bears a spiked chain.
All three of the fighters felled in combat still breath shallowly.
The one tied up by Shaan and effected by Eljah's spell remains unconcious.

Shann looks in disgust as Reinala pulls back the hoods. "Was that done to prevent them from speaking if they are captured or just to please a sick maniac ? I haven't found any crossbow or spare bolt, which means there may still be someone else upstairs. Anyone coming with me ?"

Shaan will climb upstairs to look for other intruders and find how they came in the house.

Survival to look for tracks (+2 for humans): 1d20+7=14+7=21(23 for humans)

Xabulba, should'nt Nevil heal modifier be higher ? If you have allocated 1 skill point to it and with you wisdom modifier of +4, it should be 8 (1 skill + 3 class skill + 4 Wis)

Is he still breathing ?, asks Shaan, Maybe he's been poisonned. You should check his eyes. They turn grey when you take their "shadowveil" drug.

As Shaan is not directly examining Gesrio, Heal check to aid either Andreas or Nevil
Heal check (1d20+5=19).
Should give them a +2.

With that assumption, Shaan will leave the bound man by Darinar to look for the crossbow and any remaining bolts. It should be either with ennemy 1 or ennemy 2. He will proceed with care as he does not want to poison himself.

"I knew I should have watched the house longer", says Shaan angrily, moving quickly to the blinded and unconscious man.
He then turns him face down, pats him for weapons, then takes a pair of manacles from his belt and ties him down.

"Here, that should keep him nicely when he comes back to himself.
Oh damn ! Our host ! How is he ?", he says turning towards Nevil and the Knight.

I'm posting out of turn but my action should not change exept if my target is already down.

Startled by the entrance of the two thugs by the main door, Shaan loses some time retrieving his bow. He then stands up and adjusts the cloaked shape on the stairs, aiming for the throat.

Eljah, you are right. But I had no intention of running head on in any hideout without any information. I was just stating I wanted to help. We obviously need more than just names and places.

With a sudden loud bang the doorway at the top of the stairs in the corner of the room bursts open, a crossbow bolt zipping out to strike Gesrio in the chest. The old man goes down suddenly with a yell.

Initiative (1d20+5=9)

"Mr. Temern," Reinala states calmly, "I don't mean to sound callous, but marching against the minions of the lord of torture to stop trade in narcotics does not sound like the most profitable venture. Had I a house full of beautiful women, as our Taldan friend seems to, I might not be so mercenary in my tone. If any of these gentlemen wish to go, I will offer my aid, but do not want to do so simply to be known as heroic. In fact, if I do aid in this, I may prefer not to be known for it at all."

I have seen what it does to any one desperate enough to try this and I do not wish it to my worst enemy. It's more than just narcotics. And even if it was just a simple drug trade, I would do it. So count me in.

Closing his eyes briefly, Shaan reviews the nights he spent looking for informations about the last group of thugs he hunted. He may have heard or seen something...

The dice are with me today.. but it's bound to change with our first encounter!

I assume Zon-Kuthon name and basic attributes is common knowledge.

Hearing the urgency in his voice, Shaan focuses on the old man face trying to read behind his words.

How did you discover that ? And what do you want us to do about it ?

"Are you sure you want to smoke? Smoking promotes tooth decay and impares proper breathing". Nevil states as he moves in his chair to avoid the pipe smoke.

You seem to know a lot about health matters. Are you a healer of some sorts ?, says Shaan looking at the great-sword Nevil carries.

When the well dressed warrior strides into the room as if he owned the place, Shaan is cut short in his greetings.

Andreas closes the door behind him and enters the room, striding toward Gesrio and handing his candlestick to Shaan as he passes. "Here, hold this."

Shaan's wrapped hand shoots out on its own to grab the candle stick before his mind catches the situation and he freezes looking at the back of Andreas.

He half rises, opens his mouth to reply then stops himself and carefully sits down, muttering under his breath:"Some thugs have better manners."

He then opens his backpack to store the candlestick inside. "Thank you, Sir Knight. That's something Shaila will put to good use in Underbridge, she always complains there is not enough light for her to properly examine her patients, he says before turning his attention back towards the room occupants.

As the hooded man and the shield bearing woman enter the house, Shaan emerges from behind a statue facing the house and hops on the cobbles. Quietly, he crosses the street and knocks on the door.

As he enters the small alcove, he pulls down his hood and removes his cloak. Under it, he wears a new studded leather armor whose nails have been painted grey over greyish worn clothes and well oiled boots.
"Are you Gersin Temern ?, he asks the old man. I'm Shaan Hawkeyes, but you must already know that as you know where I live. By the way, how many people have you invited tonight ? I mean, besides the two that are already in. And the two men at arms the I've just seen entering the street."

Moving in the dining/living room, he nods to the two visitors. "Good evening" He then selects a chair close to the wall, and sit astride it, the chair's back facing the table. Once seated, he removes his backpack and sets his bow down before turning towards Nevil and Reinala. He is a small but well built young man with piercing green-brown eyes "Shawn Hawkeyes, he says. Have you also been summoned?"

As the footsteps come closer, Shaan tenses. But he soon relaxes as the noise level and the light carried by the newcomers surely mean they are no threat.
"If more than one person have been summoned, it should be safe."

As long as he is undetected, Shaan stays hidden until the newcomers come closer and either enter the house or start talking.

Just one more point.
Most of us have posted a message on the thread saying "I'll post tonight or tomorrow morning..."
As we may be all over the world, it could be good to have a more precise idea of what tonight mean for all of us.
Obviously, this is just a suggestion. Feel free to disagree with me:-)

So to start, I'm in France where local time is GMT+2 till end of october and then GMT+1.

The day had been long, waiting in a cramped spaced under the roof of the derelict warehouse for nothing as the expected thugs did not show up to reclaim their loot. Shaan made his way back to the Grey Hound as the Sun was already angling down. As usual, the Inn was crowded with patrons, but Shaan's favoured corner was still empty and he sat down wearily.

"Lia, today's special and some brown ale, please", he asked one of the maids.
Five minutes later, the stew and ale was in front of him together with a letter.
"A young messenger from up-town came here about one hour ago, saying you had to get this as soon as possible"said Lia.
As Shaan read the letter, he was trying to remember if he had already heard of that guy.

Anyway, the message was clear and the term "bear arms" should mean this was not an ambush.
His ale and his quiet evening forgotten, Shaan took just the time to finish the meal, went to his room to refill his quiver and to change to fresh clothes before ascending to Naos.

"Going there is one thing but being careless is another. I'm not going to enter there alone until I know more about it." As the streets darkened, Shaan steps became lighter and he looked for a place convenient to observe the coming and going of his destination.

I've got the important information down and I'll add the remaining details tonight so I think for all intents and purposes I'm ready.

I think you still got the HP wrong. You should have full HP for first level then half+1 afterwards.

That should mean 10+6=16 for you.

All seems well! Could everyone just confirm that their ready to go? Then I'll get us started!

I've set up my character, but I wondered how the others got such great looking profile pages. Is there some template I can use?

eta: Also I used the average wealth for myself, but don't know what I should add for 2nd level, could someone guide me in the right direction here?

The wealth per level is on the table p399, it corresponds to 1000 gp for a level 2.

To get the correct template, je cut and oaste one of ours. for the spoilers and the bold characters, look at the bottom of the post window> Just under it you will find a clickable item to show the BBCode tags you can use.

Hi Gm Eoin and folks,
Here it is. Shaan Hawkeyes, ranger with the archery combat style.
I still need to work on the equipment, description and background but that should do for the time being. To let you know and if it helps, I intend to take at least one level of rogue next level.

A few questions leftover. What about HP : do we roll or do we take half+1 ? And if we roll, how do I proceed ?
Second and last question : I want to take the Shadow Child trait from CoT Players' Guide. This could be adapted to natives of Magnimar Shade district.
