Male Deva Swordmage

Setil dances around the fray to take up a position behind the ghoul's leader. Shift to P33.
Then he beseeches Pelor for any bit of defensive assistance while chopping at the ghoul, but to no avail. Priest's shield 17 vs. AC.
Setil desperately quaffs a healing potion. Minor action, spend surge and heal 10.

Glad to see Invisible Castle hasn't changed over the break.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil takes a second to reinvigorate himself. Standard action - second wind for 23 hp and +2 to all defenses. And spend an action point to use Cure Light Wounds for another 23.
He then repositions himself closer to the dragonborn. Move action - shift to M33
Finally, he speaks the words to an ancient abjuration, and a thin silvery mist forms around Sundered Heart and Setil. Minor action - Silversteel Viel gives SH and me a +2 to AC and Reflex until the end of my next turn.

New saves in case you wanted them: 17 vs. Slow, 1 vs. Acid, 6 vs. Weakened. Personally, I'd prefer the first batch.

Update and partial re-post, all involved (Karrn, Galad and Setil) please double check for correcticity. :) Note to self: pay more attention to conditional bonuses!

Good luck, I created half of the PC's for my f2f game and at least once a session I hear "Oh wait! That should have worked because..." Plus, it's easier f2f because they can chime in as it happens. On a pbp, there's soooo much stuff to track that nobody can blame you for missing a hidden +1. Anyways, you're doing great!

Male Deva Swordmage

Oh man! I just saw my Astral Majesty! That means my AC is 29 vs. the bloodied Initiate! I'm still up! I should let the DM resolve stuff before I post anymore;)

Male Deva Swordmage

Can't sleep, may as well roll my saves, Slowed = 12, Acid = 18, Weakened = 18, Death = 2.

Male Deva Swordmage

Well 2 more points of damage, thanks to SH, but I just looked back at when the initiate became bloodied, and he's not going down anytime soon:(

Galad The Redeemed wrote:
I sorry Setil, but I have no way to heal you before you go into unconsciousness from the ongoing damage.

It's cool, I'm the defender. Hopefully, I've helped myself.

Male Deva Swordmage

In response to #4 Ravenous bite, I'll use Frost Backlash.
Just as teeth close around his arm, Setil's body appears coated in a layer of frost.
-2 reek, -2 conceal = 27 vs. Reflex. Please let that hit. 16 cold damage and on the off chance it kills him, since it's an interrupt, it stops the bite from hitting, and any other bad stuff #4 was trying. Of course it would change #3's action.

Male Deva Swordmage
DM Grumpysauce wrote:
Setil: Your Aegis' immediate interrupt is usable 1x/round (according to PHB268), and so you still retain the use of Transposing Lunge.

I'm confused. Did I use it more than once this round? It looks like I used it on the Initiate in round 3, and then I just tried it on the Initiate on round 4.

Male Deva Swordmage

Restoration Save vs. Acid = 12
Setil swings at the initiate again, reciting prayers to Pelor in an attempt to block out the maddening words of his former friend.
Strengthen the Faithful +2 flank, +2 Retributive shield, -2 reek, -2 concealment: 20 vs. AC and Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes just in case +4 =24.
Save vs. Slow = 18

Male Deva Swordmage

Again, Setil prevents the full forces of the ghoul's claws on Sundered Heart, at the same time lashing out with his sword.
Prevent 13 damage, and use Transposing Lunge. +2 Retributive Shield, -2 reek, -2 concealment: 22 vs. AC, +1 for Memories = 23. Big miss

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil once again repositions himself on the battlefield, this time in the midst of as many ghouls as possible. Shift to O33.
Then he lifts his sword high overhead and electricity strikes out at the ghouls surrounding him. Electrified Lash on #1, #3, #4 with -2 for concealment, -2 for reek. 25, 11, 28 vs. Fortitude. (The last attack has a +2 for Retributive shield.) 20 electricity damage
He finishes with a prayer to Pelor to heal Sundered Heart's wounds. Healing Word let's Sundered Heart spend a surge +6

Save = 9

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil's magical link with the ghoul glows as it tears into Sundered Heart's throat, preventing some, but not all of the vicious wound.
Prevent 13 damage to Sundered Heart.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil moves nimbly into position across from Madda, resolved to free his friend from this curse in the only manner he can think of. Move action - shift to N35

He strikes out defensively, trying to protect himself and Sundered Heart from Jurival's poisonous claws. Standard action - Priest's shield 16 vs. AC +2 flank, +2 Retributive Shield, -2 concealment, -2 reek = 16 total. I'll activate my Couters of Second Chances and reroll: 23 vs. AC +2 with Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes = 25 vs. AC for 13 damage and Sundered Heart and myself gain a +1 power bonus to AC.

Then Setil establishes a new link with the ghoul on the far side of Sundered Heart. Minor Action - Shield of Aegis to mark #4.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil uses the arcane link with his lost friend to prevent some of the damage to Karn.
Immediate interrupt - reduce the damage to Karn by 13.
Setil's face sets with grim resolve and he answers the flesh-hungry ghoul with a single word, "Never."

DM

Spoiler:
I mistakenly used a reroll for Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes intead of adding extra dice. It doesn't matter now, just letting you know of my mistake. I guess moving has taken its toll, but at least I'm settled again.

Setil concentrates for a second and establishes a link with one of the ghouls. Minor action, mark stalker #1.
This would be your Aegis of Shielding, correct?

Correct.

Setil gives an anguished cry, "Jurival? What happened to you?"

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil concentrates for a second and establishes a link with one of the ghouls. Minor action, mark stalker #1.
Then his sword takes on the soft glow of holy energy and he strikes at the ghoul in the middle of the group. Standard action, Healing strike against #4 with flank and -2. 20 vs. AC, if it hits Sundered Heart may spend a surge and the #4 is also marked. If it misses, I'll use Memory of a Thousand Lifetimes.
Reroll, if necessary = 16 vs. AC

Male Deva Swordmage

Perception = 25 That's 23 in the zone.

Male Deva Swordmage

Religion = 36
"Setil calls through the reek "Radiant attacks are best. Avoid poison and necrotic..." and his voice breaks off as he gags.

He hops from his horse hoping that at the worst, the beast only goes home. Setil draws his sword, feeling a welcome sense of security, then rushes at the closest enemy.
Move action - dismount, minor action - draw weapon, standard action - charge to O37.
Charge attack = 15 vs. AC

Male Deva Swordmage

J34

According to my PHB p267, being Surprised does cause one to grant CA to any unsurprised assailants. Did I miss an errata update, perhaps?

No, you're right. I was thinking of, people just going first in initiative, not surprise. Sorry.

Galad The Redeemed wrote:
Also, any idea what this horse should be named?[/ooc]

I'm with you Galad. I think Setil sees his horse as more of a tool to be utilized than an entity to be named. He doesn't remember to many horses in Pelor's court.

Male Deva Swordmage

DM

Spoiler:
I'm stupid busy with moving this week and my posting might be spotty. Act for me if you need to. BTW, being surprised doesn't grant combat advantage, except to rogues.

Initiative = 25
Great, I crit Initiative and tomorrow's my day away from game. Oh, and I can't use rituals.

Male Deva Swordmage

I'm a ghost on Saturday too. I have Game Day, followed by my Savage Tide.

Male Deva Swordmage

I'm going to try and stick it out as is for a while.

Male Deva Swordmage

"I am pleased to see you all."

Setil welcomes Ioun's blessing and hopes that Pelor will eventually show his favor on the endeavor.

I will be accepting a horse, and I think we should follow the river most of the way. Whatever time we may save by going striaght across would be lost once we hit the Harrowswode anyway. And then it only makes sense to take the easy route through the mountains, especially with mounts.

Male Deva Swordmage

As long as we're talking rituals, does anybody have Phantom Steed? If not we may need to procure mounts.

DM

Spoiler:
Setil does reject it at the counter then, "Tell the couple I am grateful, but I cannot accept this gift. If they feel the need to give something for what happened, then they should donate to their church, for the gods had more to do with keeping them alive than I did."

Male Deva Swordmage

DM

Spoiler:
Setil will check for magic (and identify if applicable), then reluctantly pack it back up and try to find the couple in order to return the gift. He feels too much like he's being paid for doing the right thing.

Male Deva Swordmage

DM

Spoiler:
Setil nods politely as Maddie introduces herslelf, but doesn't say anything. He does inquire if the woman left a name, and if her betrothed was with her, then he will open it in his room.

Male Deva Swordmage

"Good enough. I'll see you in the morning."

Resting at the inn.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil almost appears to not be paying attention, instead studying his surroundings.
"I speak for nobody but myself, but I will search for the Tear." says Setil abruptly. "It has been a long day. I plan to sleep and leave in the morning. If any of you would care to join me we can meet here. Perhaps Dierdre will remember more information once she rests. Where would one find lodging in Wellspring?"

Male Deva Swordmage

Two more surges bring me to full, or maybe one if Galad is offering some extra healing.

"So, Dierdre, is your knowledge of our tentacled foes gleaned from first hand experience?"

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil tries to help with the clearing of debris and moving the wounded and injured.
Athletics = 24

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil will pay special attention to those that did not survive. His current situation has left him more concerned with the demise of mortal bodies. He will do what he can to minister to the families of survivors.

Male Deva Swordmage

I'm not sure what the goal of this skill challenge is. I'm guessing it's to assist the wounded. A little clarification might help me to figure out how my Religion check could help.

Religion = 29

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil stands and dusts himself off after the fight and then meticulously cleans his weapon. He listens in to the other conversations, but doesn't stop his work until Dierdre approaches. Then, he sheathes his sword with a flourish, and gives her his full attention.

"May you always walk in the light. I am Setil. I know the wounded are the first concern here, but I would like to hear anything you know about these monstrosities."

Then he speaks to his fellow combatants, "I am sure I owe all of you a debt of gratitude. Certainly, I only walked away from this because of your assistance. You have my thanks and Pelor's blessing. May you always walk in the light."

And then specifically to Madda, "You seem to be a resident of Wellspring. Do you know if a priest of Pelor, by the name of Jurival has been through here? He is a friend, and intended to settle here."

Setil is stunned and has used his AP, so we can slot his save in at any point. Pardons, Ghettowedge, if this offends.

No problem. One question, though: when did I fall prone?

Save vs. stun = 20 Great, another nat 20 wasted on a save.

Male Deva Swordmage

Save vs. Stun = 3
Oh, good.

Male Deva Swordmage
Sundered Heart wrote:
Can I charge G4?

You should be able to charge if you move to W15, then charge to X13.

Male Deva Swordmage

"STOP!" Upon seeing the half-elf charging towards swirling energy Setil screams, "I'll try to pull it out."

Male Deva Swordmage
DM Grumpysauce wrote:
Setil wrote:
...and pull G4 to W11.
I assume you mean W12, since you need to pull your target to a square adjacent to you, otherwise the power fails.

Correct as ever, oh wise and benevolent GM.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil yells out over the din, "Blind Deva!! There is a creature on top of you! Wait and I will try to pull it off!!"
That means Galad should maybe delay.

Setil nods at the dragonborn, "Do you have a couple more in you? I'll see if I can pull that one closer for you, then I'll get the leader." Setil then crosses the storm of energy and once outside of it sends tendrils of lightning towards the grell threatening the other deva.
Move to W13, skirting the edge of that other zone; and Lightning Lure on G4 24 vs. Fort; 12 lightning damage and pull G4 to W11.

Male Deva Swordmage

DM

Spoiler:
Since I won't be around tomorrow and Setil is healthy again, if the philosopher hits me with a ranged attack I'd like to use dimension dodge to negate the hit and teleport next to the philosopher (DD12 if it hasn't moved).

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil ignores the grell at his back for the moment, and thrusts his sword into the one that the dragonborn has wounded. After that, Setil's body begins working at normal speed again.

Shift to Q14, Strengthen the Faithful: 30 vs. AC; 13 damage and Sundered Heart and myself may spend a surge and heal an additional 1 (24 for me). Save vs. Slow and -2 = 13

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil blinks his eyes and sees the hilt of his sword, then everything comes back into focus. He grunts and rises to his feet, "Pelor's buisness here is not done yet." he says to nobody in particular. As the dragonborn makes a backswing with his weapon, Setil quickly touches it and it begins to glow as bright as the sun. And then Setil focuses on his body, regaining his poise and will to fight.

Stand; Weapon of the Gods on SH's weapon (Until the end of the encounter, all attacks made with the weapon deal an extra 1d6 radiant damage. When the weapon hits an enemy, the enemy takes a –2 penalty to AC until the end of the weapon wielder's next turn.); and use my second wind (+23 hp, +2 to all defenses).

DM

Spoiler:
I'm currently having computer issues that will hopefully be resolved in a day or three. I'm using a neighbor's computer right now. If my posting is holding up the game in any way feel free to npc me. Also, I accidentally rolled an attack that I couldn't make. Can I use it next turn? Here

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil uses what little strength he has remaining to break free of the tentacles wrapped around him. He staggers to the ground next to the dragonborn and manages to pull himself up to a fighting stance. He says to his newfound ally, "If I drop, try to prevent them from eating my brain."
Athletics 27 vs. Fort and shift to R14
And then he makes all of his saves! 20 vs. dazed; 20 vs. random; 10 vs. slowed

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil provokes with Lightning Lure.
Setil opens himself up to attack again in another bid to pull the beast off of the dragonborn. Lightning flashes from his sword, but snaps harmlessly from the cobblestones.
Lightning Lure on G2: 15 vs. Fortitude..
And then he fails all three saves: 8, 2, 2.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil calls over to the nearby dragonborn, "I'll try to pull that one of of you, and... Sorry."
Setil provokes with a ranged attack. Lightning Lure = 16 vs. Fort. Save vs. Daze = 1. Save vs. Random = 5. Somebody say unlikely.

Male Deva Swordmage
DM Grumpysauce wrote:

Setil:The daze you inflicted was enough of a shock to let you squirm free of the grell's clutches. My bad, I forgot to mention in my earlier post.

choose Random Melee target (save ends)

I forgot to roll a save against the randomly choosing targets, so we can call it even. But hey it's a 1 so nevermind.

Male Deva Swordmage

Setil is hurt and doesn't bother trying to break free of the creature's grasp. Instead his sword glows with holy energy as he hacks at the creature.

Healing Strike on G4 31 vs. AC 11 damage and G4 is marked (still) and I spend a healing surge (23 hp). I'll also activate the daily power of my sword as a free action. G4 is dazed until the end of my next turn, or if it's evil or chaotic evil it's dazed (save ends). Save = 2.
