TRAITS
Bardic Inspiration. Selestra can inspire others through stirring words or music using a bonus action. When she does so, Selestra chooses one creature within 60 feet that can hear her. That creature gains one Bardic Inspiration die (a d6); once within the next 10 minutes, this creature can expend the die, rolling it and adding the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. Creatures can only have one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.
Selestra can use this feature a number of times equal to her Charisma modifier; she regains any expended uses when she finishes a long rest.
Brave. Selestra has advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
By Popular Demand. Selestra can always find a place to perform, usually in an inn but possibly with a circus, at a theater, or even in a noble's court. At such a place, she receives free lodging and food of a modest or comfortable standard (depending on the quality of the establishment), as long as she performs each night. In addition, strangers that recognize Selestra in places where she has performed before typically take a liking to her.
Halfling Nimbleness. Selestra can move through the space of any creature that is of a size category larger than she is.
Lucky. When Selestra rolls a 1 on an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, she can rereoll the die, but must take the new roll.
Naturally Stealthy. Selestra can attempt to hide even when she is obscured only by a creature that is at least one size category larger than she is.
Spellcasting. Selestra is a 1st-level spellcaster. Her spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 13) and she knows the following bard spells:
Cantrips (at will): light, minor illusion
1st level (2 slots): comprehend languages, cure wounds, heroism, sleep

BACKGROUND
Selestra Silverleaf was born in the city of Waterdeep, the youngest of seven children. Her parents, though not very wealthy, managed well enough to support themselves and their children, her father working as a sailor, her mother weaving nets for the fishermen.
Selestra's mother, blinded at an early age, cautioned the girl to be cunning, and ever wary, whilst her father, whom she adored, urged her to be brave and daring.
Torn between the two, Selestra yearned for excitement in her youth. She would watch the harbor day and night for her father's return. He'd always return, as promised, with new stories and gifts for his children, until the day he didn't. Selestra's mother cursed the Queen of the Depths for claiming her husband, but refused to grieve in front of her children.
Unable to feed them all, the blind widow sent her children away, one by one, to work as house servants for the city's nobility, until only Selestra remained. The young halfling cared for her mother diligently for many years until sickness took her one starless night. Selestra's brothers and sisters returned to see their mother buried, but tarried no longer. One of them, though, extended a hand soon thereafter, informing Selestra that her master was in need of another servant, and so with few other opportunities, Selestra joined her sister in service to the noble, a man named Renaer Neverember who noticed her special talent for song.
Lord Neverember introduced Selestra to several more experienced spellcasters, including the sorceress Laraelra Harsard, who helped the young halfling realize her arcane potential.
