Sasum-pul was born to a companion working in Kaer Maga years ago. His true linage is unknown as his mother heritage had no known history of planar influence, and his father was never revealed. Whenever the influence originated, it was obvious that Sas was tainted. His mother all but abandoned him and he grew up being bulled by the other children of the brothel. By the time of his fifteenth birthday, Sas fled onto the streets of Kaer Maga.
The years on the streets of Kaer Maga were as rough as expected and spent time with a number of small gangs, but he never felt right among the chaos they caused. He eventually crossed the wrong people though and had to run again. He made his way further towards the Varisian coast, eventually arriving at the city of Magnimar. Within the city he felt he could become a part of something maybe, but his appearance meant he would remain an outcast and he ended up settling in Underbridge.
Life in Underbridge wasn’t ideal but Sas found a community there, and within that community he found comfort. His appearance kept some people away, but in the perpetual twilight, most people just treated him as a fellow downtrodden soul. As he grew his strength became apparent but his cunning would become greater. One other downtrodden soul took note.
Among the people of Underbridge was a Shoanti hunter. Temmad was the last of a small group that came to Magnimar for trade, but found themselves unwelcome. He took note of Sas and his natural ability to follow a trail and his strength. Temmad struck upon an idea to improve the lives of many below the bridge and Sas was part of that plan.
For years Temmad and Sas would spend days out in the hinterlands around Magnimar. They would hunt mostly, but occasionally would trap fish. Sas proved to be a great tracker but usually it fell to Temmad to take down the prey. They would return often with enough meat to feed not only themselves, but they could share the results with their fellow Underbridge residents. Eventually though, Temmad grew older and it became clear that the hunt would fall to Sas alone. Sas feared the day and spent most nights asking the darkness to help him be the provider he needed to be.
The first few times Sas went on the hunt alone, he found he was returning with less food than was needed. He found the prey easy enough but he was not the shot that Temmad was, and he feared he never would be. His pleading at night grew desperate but he was resolved to provide as they always had but it was becoming harder to not give in. His patience was faltering, but it was patience that ended up being his salvation.
Sas had tracked a large boar for a day and was lining up a shot he knew he likely was to miss. Before he let the arrow fly though, he felt a touch to his hand. Wait for the shot. He almost ignored the thought, but he did wait. And he waited for the next shot too. That night as his friends ate well, he drifted to sleep. In his dreams he was visited by an old hunter who smiled warmly. He began to speak of the service Sas was performing and how it brought a growing community together.
Sas continued to hunt for his community but he also sought out mentors in the faith he eventually learned was Erastil. He found he was not the guide for those in the faith, but was a provider and served with pleasure. He returned time after time to Underbridge but found a change in the community. Magnimar was a city and the younger generations sought out the faith of Abadar more and more. Community seemed less important than the prosperity, and soon Sas felt it was time to find a new community to provide for. He heard that the small community of Sandpoint would welcome those who could contribute and he set off to see for himself.
For the 20 years now Sas has hunted and butchered local game for the community of Sandpoint. He has helped out in defense of the town at times. He has spent time afield with Shalelu, and he provides choice cuts to The White Deer and The Rusty Dragon. He mourned with the community during the recent unpleasant events and celebrated the reconsecration of the Cathedral. If the town has need of him, he will grab his bow and head out to defend his home to the fullest.
