Bumping to see if anyone is intersted. This is a great game with a great DM, it's a chance to do a survival horror game *in space* and I don't know what more you want than that?! The Apocalypse World (PbtA) ruleset is easy to learn and you can make a character in about 5 minutes and dive right into the fun stuff. tl;dr - come on in, the water's lovely! Jsut watch out for the fungus ;)

I think it's a given that Sasha *has* to agree to teh terms of whatever is offered, whether she lieks it or not. So she'll go along with teh deal, and try to fix whatever problems it causes later on. This is not a sensible way to live your life, but its' the PbtA approved way to play the game :)

Sasha tries not to look around too obiovulsly like a yokel, but she's never seen anything like this. She never imagiedn you could be this rich, and she tells herself off for such a lack of creativity. That waterfall- She's brought back to ground by his quesitons about teh Fleet. "Right, yes." She does her best to move smoothly back into the terrain she knows best. "Obviously lots of information is classified, but I can tel you that I'm authorisd to negotiate with you for some of your fuel. More importantly however, as a mark of our respect for you, I have this - " She pulls out some vids she has made of the statue (of *course* seh didn't bring it with them, it's stone - it's safely in the hold of Cranberry). "I understand you are a collector, and if you give our ship permission to land then we can bring this to you. If you'd like to accept it, of course. I hope it pleaess you." Smoothly does it - it's as if she's completly unaware that there's an alien ship partked nearby. Which of course she is. I don't think there's a move for this, maybe personal touch? Sasha's unable to stop the pain from showing in her voice as she replies to Hannah. "I can't go - sssss - faster than we're going now." She gives another hiss of pain. "These suits are rated for hours and we'll just have to hpe they hold for a few more minuts." She keeps her eyes focusd on their destination. "Just a bit further now," but it's not clear whether she's reasuring herself or her companon.

Climinbg into an EVA suit is not exaclty comfortable at the best of times - the shielding around them makes them a rigid shell, almost like armour. In artificial gravity of the ship, without the servo-motors powering them you'd be stuck trying to shift a half-ton bodysuit under your own msucles. Sasha gives a hiss of pain as she has to contort before standing up, and she feels one of her stitches twinge. Now she's in the suit, she can't take a look to see if it's just complaining or whether it's actually given way. Either way, she's looking at another trip to sickbay and a telling off from Doc Balor. Once outside, she stamps down a couple of times on the hot rock under her feet, testing it before looking across at Hannah. "You OK in there, girl? You probably figured this out already but - we're gonna have to walk there, if we try to use the compresed air jets there's a real risk we escape gravity and dont get seen again." She sounds cheerful enough about the whole thing, but the walk there is a nightbmare for her. Walking in microgravity requires careful control of your movements, using the core muscles - whcih is exactly what the rebar went right through when it went rigth through her. She's sweating with exertion and pain by the time the two of them reach the airlock, but she gives Hannah a smile. "Don't worry about being unarmed, a gun wouldn't do any use anyway. Your best weapon is between your ears - keep a lookout and if you see antying that looks interesting, you let me know. Don't assume I know what you know." She points at the airlock. "Like, for instance - if we have to leave here in a hurry, could you get that open from here or is it only controlled remotely?" She does her best to reassure the student. "I'm not saying we *are* going to have to leave in a hurry. I just like to plan for stuff." Hannah gets a warm smile in return. "First up, it's just Sasha - *Captian* is for emergencies or underlings and you aren't that. And you can count on me to walk you through it all. For now, it looks like we're going to be doing that EVA a bit sooner than I thought - you up for a stroll in teh starlight?" It's not really a question. She pushes a button on Cranberry's intercom, calling up to teh pilot. "Hey Nancy, it looks like I'm going to need you to drop us down on that rock, two East of the main tower. Once we're down, take off again quick but stay in radio range." With that done, she radios her reply out to the other side. "This is Captain Moran of the Colonail Fleet to the unidentified voice. Me and one other will be dropping down from our fuel ship to your landing site in a few minutes. We'll be unarmed as requested." Except for our brains she thinks scornfully. Her wits and her people skills have kept her alive far better than any gun. She then switches the comm back to private. "Thea, Gunny, hang tight for now. Keep an eye out for any Shrooms and please try not to frakk things while I'm still down there." Hannah gets another grin. "Right, let's get suited up!" If Sasha is worried, or scared, she is doing a great job of hiding it - she genuily seems to be enjoying herself. It's not everyday you get to schomooze a billionaire. There's a profit here, if she keeps her eyes open for it.

I think in-game it maeks more sense for the pilots to be pilots - the only ohter reason for having us all be there is not to split the party, and I'm asuimg if DMDM was expecting us to all go he'd have said. Of course, if the next 20+ posts are about the landing group then the pilots might not have much to do.

Sasha misses a step as she turns back to look at Hannah in surprise. "That was you?" Her memories of the whole thing are patchy at best. "You kept the explosion to a minimum, saved my life and a whole bunch of others in the process. So - thanks. Next time you're in my bar, don't pay, you hear me? That was some cool work under pressure." She gives a shake of her head as memories start to pile up. No. Enough. "Well, if you're an EVA veteran you can help me into this when the time comes,vyeah? I'm still not fully recovered, an extra pair of hands would be much appreciated." It's clear Hannah thought she was kidding, so she explains. "I'm gonna have to hook the pipeline up to the Juicer manual, nobody has come up with a guaranteed way to do it without human supervision believe it or not." Hannah's question get a shrug. "Truth, I don't know if he's here at all. But I hope so, I can handle people, so I'd rather have to deal with a weird bilonare than with a bunch of drones on autopilot." She grins at Hannah. And then of course there are the people you don't ever need to get angry with because they're already doing their best to make everyone happy. Sasha has a strong sense that the thin, quiet young woman who's trying to fold herself up out the way is one of them. She gives Hannah a thoutful look for a moment of two - not posh, but not poor either - never gone hungry, or known what it's like to have nothing - well educated - no, wait - *very* well educated - split ends, chews her hair? Definitely chews her fingernails - almost certainly no boyfriend/girlfriend - feels like a fish out of water but almost certainly a hell of a lot braver than she think she is. The thoughts play out in a fraction of a second, on instinct as she clips the comm link - shell reply to Gunny in a bit but Hannah gets her undivided attention right now - to her belt and sits on the floor of the hold, arms round her knees as she gives Hannah the compliment of telling her the truth. "Are things going alright? I'm not sure. The pilots are on a hair trigger, can't blame them really all things considered - and they shot down some blips on the radar they thought were shrooms but turned out to be drones, probly belonging to the guy we're hoping to get fuel from. I've sent o transmission trying to parley but if it goes titsup the two of us are in an unarmed ship with enough Juice in it to make a small sun if it gets hit." "But there's nothing I can do about that. If it comes to a figh, we've got the best pilots in the Federation on our side. And Gunny, or course." She stands up in one smooth motion, and gives Hannah a smile. "So don't worry. Besides." She gives the student a thoughtful look. "You ever been in an EVA suit? Wanna see what it's like while we wait? Trust me, you step out an airlock in that, nothing between you and the void, and you just look out into space - it's times like that I get the point of religion." For Sasha anger is a tool rather than a state of mind and like all tools you put it away when you're done with it. She switches the comm link back to private and Gunny can hear the grin in her voice as she responds. "Hilarious Gunny, cos I can hear you just fine - in fact, it sounds like you're telling me you don't wanna be drinking in my bar any more, did I hear that right? Going teetotal? Nothing but water for you from now on? I can make that happen." The idle chat passes the time while they all wait to see if the other side responds.

There's two jokes you're alowed to make about Sashas' height - in her hearing at least, if you want to live. Teh first is that when they told her she was too short for the marines she cussed them a streak that left them begging her to join up to teach troopers how to swear properly. It's certainly put to good effect when she graps her comm-link and lets loose with a stream of cursing while she tells them to stop shooting. "... and I will shove them so far inside and so deep down you'll have to go where no man ahs goen before to get them back! And you will *BE* no man! Now CEASE FIRE unless you ID it as a shroom or it shoots at you!" Taking a deep breath, she sets the comm link to all channels. "This is Captain Maran of the Colonial Fleet, opening comms with Courcy de Vries. Can we talk? We come in peace, and I have an ofring that might interst you." FLASHBACK: Know your enemy, or so the saying goes. Sasha makes it her busines to know *everyone* - and that certainly now includes de Vries. She puts teh word out with everyone she can think of - get me info on him, who he is, what he likes. If he's a bilionair he's going to have some stupid thing he collects, they all do. She also puts the word out that anyone who can bring her something he'd be itnerested in, they will have a deal. There's all sorts of civilians on board, and they packed light when they ran but they all brought something with them - it's human nature to carry what you value, not what will hlep you survive. EVA suits are rated for several hours in hard vacuum, enough to do inspection,vrepairs or maintenance - under normal conditions. Here, even with the rad-tabs, she's got 20 minutes, 25 at most. Sasha paces the hold of Cranberry, walking it all through in her mind. Ok, so thers three standard types of fit- *THUNK* The absence of pain is almost a surprise - as the flare of the shuttle blinds her and disintegrates Starr and Buck, and the projectl impales her, there's no pain. Sound, of course - the alarm in her ears, the hiss of air from the EVA brach, and the feeling of cold. Thermodynamicly, it's the warmth leaving her EVA rather than cold rushing in, but it doesn't feel like that - it feels like the fingers of Death Herself have reached in and are pulling out her life bit by bit. Oh, enough. She turns and glares at the EVA suit - not the same one of course, they had to cut her out of that - as though it's responsible for her memory. She'll have less than half an hour out there, she can't get distracted. She's escaped Death before, she reminds herself. Which is true, but after that thing in Crow Street back home, she'd avoided the place, not gone straight back in. She doesn't even have to be here - she's the boss, she could leave this to Bodie and Stuggs. But she has more EVA time than all the others put together, and in the time window they've got she can't be sure anytone else will get it right. Besides she has a rep to keep with. Nothing bothers Captain Maran, Death took a stab at her and she went outside for more. *That's* the reputation you need to deal with people like Mr Luca and walk away at the end of it. Besides, it *is* kind of fun. In here, the EVA is half a ton of bulk, but out there with the compressed air jets working in silence, she's transformed into a wingless god of old. She raps her knuckles against the outer shel. Bring it. I'm ready.

I think that makes sense - there'd be different ships just because we're the last of whatevers left and it all got used up. Different ships have different roles,ctoo. Thea is scouting ahead so I think Deigon's ship is escorting the juicers in to give support - they're not armed and they go boom for obvious reasons. Sasha is onboard Cranberry, she's tasked with supply and logistics stuf and this counts. I'll do a gameplay post in a bit.

So, the prepped, let's call him - it's almost certainly a him - Courcy de Vries because why not. When the Corax first appeared he was convinced they were hostile and started building a place away from everywhere to survive/ressit when they attacked. He had no evidence but of course turned out to be right, so now he's a complete "they called me mad! Mad!!!" type. Problematic because *extreme* paranoid and also now convinced that all his other loony beliefs are true because of course he is. I'm happy to leave whatever those loony beliefs are to the DM or anyone else who want to add something. Is he also maybe a relative of someone? I'm not sure what Sasha would be doing - I don't think I have enough to go on. The obvious answer is to ask what she's been ordered to do?

I would think at teh very least Thea would mention it to Sasha, even if it's jsut in passing @DMDM - I'm fine with it being a Gus Fring type, Sasha doesn't have time for the "burn it all down" types or the people who are too short sihghted to see the long term gain. The fact he's a psycho isn't a deal breaker from her POV. Unles you're time skiping though I think the meeting room is her sickbay - she's still recovering from her injuries.

OK, another try to get it right this time! PC relationships: Deigon at +1 and Thea at +2 after that Reach Out. I've kept Oscar listed in case DMDM wants to make him an NPC and/or do stuff off screen. NPC relationships all at 0 for now Sasha shakes her head at Thea's thanks, her voice slurred and heavy with that accent she worked hard to lose. "Dn't mention it, loik. Thanks for savin' my loife. Owe you for *that*." When Thea leaves, she gives in to the loss of consciouness gratefuly. End scene When she wakes up the next morning(?) the pain is still there but it's more of a persistent dull ache and her mind is sharp. Thea's words from yesterday are still in her mind - the benefit of staying off the durgs is she can remember it all. A good quartermaster keeps things flowing. OK then. Tiem to do what she does best. She picks up her comm unit and places a call through to Morgan Kinnard. "Ensign Kinnard, please report to me in sickbay as soon as you're free." She's back in control and her voice sounds normal again. She winces as she remembers last night. Never remind them where you're from. Kinnard is a junior officer who would love, love to be one of the ruperts highr up the chain - one of the boys in the "in" crowd - but he doesn't have the talent and his face doesn't fit - he's got as far as he ever will, pretty much. In an efort to be someone important, he joined up with the Nexus and is what they call "Connected" although even there he's never going to be one of the bosses or "Links" in the upper command or "Chain" (Sasha finds all the silly names very tedious but boys will be boys). Tehy mostly stay out of each others way but sometimes his criminal netwark is useful and this is - she hopes - one of these times. Sasha is very aware that her hospital gown is not a great look so when he arives she quickly reminds him she's in charge. "At ease, ensign. I'm hoping we can hlpe each other. I know that over the years a lot of Juice hs gone missing, and it's got to be stored somewhere before it's sold non the black market, right?" The stuff is nasty, it's not something you keep under the flooring. "What I'm thinking is, *someone* knows where there's a lot of it to be found, somehwhere off the oficial maps where the Shrooms don't know about it. A map to where it is would be a good thing to have right now, because if we're out of fuel then the Shrooms find us and nobody's money means aneything then, right? I think a map like that would be a really good investment in the future, so we can all keep on earning money. That's waht I think, anyway. I'm jsut thingking out loud." Thus isn't a decision he can make on his own, she knows. He's going to have to go back to his Link, and they're probly going to have to talk to the rest of the Chain. But organised criminals are her favourite kind - they're predicatlble, mostly. They want to make money, and a future where they can't do that is one they;l want to avoid. Sasha is jsut on the edge of consciousness, but she heard everythign Thea was saying and she nods faintly. Every word she forces out in reply is a minor victory over the pain that threatens to overwhelm her. "Someone - hmf - told me recently that - that the thing to do with the dead is rember them - find some way to hnour them - and - and know that it's not your fault they're dead." Her face is grey with pain but she forces herself to stay with it. "If you're still - still seeing them then maybe it's becuase you aren't - ready to let them go? As for. A good night's. Sleep. Maybe find a medic to help with that?" She gives the ghost of a smile. "I hear there's - one or two - around the place." She slumps back against the pillow, breathing hard, not able to say any more for the moment.

It looks like that's a "yes" on the Personal Touch move, I get that in future it might nede a bit more than that :) Presonl touch: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (6, 2) + 1 = 9 oh so close! Thea gest to remove *another* pressure. I get to makr XP and ask Thea a question from the list. The question is "what do you most need at the moment" - or, possibly "what secret have you been holding onto" - I'll let you decide based on how you interpret our conversation. Sasha tries not to wince as Thea's hand rest on her shoulder - she prefers to keep people at a distance for the most part. But she apreciates the gesture and the thought behind it. She nods as Thea finishes talking, and lets the silence build for a bit before she breaks it. "Thanks. I appreciate what you said. It helps." She quickly changes direction. "Is that why you've been acting out then, too much to deal with?" She meets the pilot's gaze. "Oh, come on. You've always known how to party but recently it's been more than that - and I'm not jsut talking about the hangar, although that was way past any line you'd have crossed before." From most people, this would be a calling out, or a confrontation. But the tone here is concern, and Sasha sits up in her bed, trying to ignore the pain of her stitches and closes one eye as she squints at heer friend. "How worried should I be that you're going to ride right off that edge and straight into oblivioun?" Her tone softens. "I've got nothing to do right now but hurt, and listen. And I'd much rather listen. So spill - what's going on with you, hotshot?"

In Apocolypse World, if a move doesn't say what happens on a 6 then the default is jsut "on a miss, be prepared for the worst" and the DM makes something bad happen. I think that *has* to be teh same here - all dice rolls need a fail option, or you might as well be playing D&D. Do you want to make Personal Touch need what BitD calls a "setup move" in order to make it work? Like, maybe Sasha has to Pull Strings to get something special for people, or Reach Out to make them feel special? Adn I've just noticed that the only moves that give you XP have *nothing* to do with fighting! This is defintly space opera, not an action movie :) DM_DM wrote:

@DMDM - If yes, can I use Relationship with people instead of Smooth, like for the other moves? Or is that too OP? By the time Thea arrives, Sasha's had some time to rest, and to think. She knows that giving Bodie that assingment was probly a bad call and she toys with the idea of getting Stugss to do it instead. But she can't face that right now. Anyway, whatver she sends they're going to want to see her in person - it's what you're supposed to do in times like this. When Thea walks in with the coffee, although her face is grey-lined with pain Sasha gives the pilot a smile. "Looks like the hot water did its thing, you're looking - and smelling - a lot better for it. Don't get used to it, that sort of malfunction isn't something I can work too often." She shifts positio, trying to make the pain stop, and looks at the morphine drip. No. She's seen too many addicts. Pain will pass. She takes a gupl of the hot coffee instead. I'm making the Reach OUt move - show a significant doubt or fear - and using my rleationship of +2 with Thea instaed of Warm Reach Out: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10 Assming Thea reasponds positivly (ie not "get a grip solder you're in the army now") then we both erase 1 pressure. The mnove also gets me 1 XP, I think?
