Angel Form

Concept Saoirse is a bastion protector of the people of the Dalelands, and favored of Lathander the Morninglord. She employs might, inspiration, and summoning magic in battle against her foes, and the elves have taught her a collection of useful spells for other situations.

Appearance A half-elf, Saoirse appears like a traveling sage. At thirty years old, she retains a youthful glow and also possesses a glimmer of wisdom in her eye. A heavy brown cloak covers her body, with a furred collar providing some warmth. The glimmer of elven chainmail shows beneath the cloak. A dagger and a macelike rod are clipped to a heavy belt. She also wears a tunic, solid burlap pants, and thigh-high boots. A magical backpack worn over the cloak completes her outfit. Her red hair is often done up in braids. Beneath all of her equipment and clothing, blue tattoos signifying various honors are hidden.

When she transforms, her appearance is much more intimidating and terrible. Her dagger becomes a broad-bladed sword, which she wields in two of four muscular arms. A suit of half-plate appears around her body, though it is fused with her form rather than being separate equipment. Powerful, feathered wings spread past her shoulders. Her eyes glow with righteous might, and she seems to bring the warmth of the sun everywhere she goes.

Background:

Saoirse’s parents were from the Dalelands and the Cormanthyr Forest. An elf and a human, both were guardians of their respective peoples. The elf, a border-guard with sharp aim. The human, a priest of a sun god and a healer. The pair met foiling a Zhentarim plot to seize lands in the Dales. They continued to see one another after the villains were defeated, frequently visiting one another in their respective cities. Their relationship resulted in Saoirse, who grew up among the humans of the Dales and spent adolescent years among the elves for schooling and training. Raised and trained to be a force for good and purity in the world, Saoirse became an adventurer at an early age. Trained by the elves in magic and combat, Saoirse ventured into the human world to right wrongs. She saw early success cleansing barrowlands of haunted undead and fighting off orcish invaders. Using her power to summon aid from beyond the veil, she was able to combat foes in greater numbers than usual. Granted land by her lord as a reward for her prowess, she settled into a role of protector and community leader.

All heroes see hardship, no matter how long their winning streak. Last month, Saoirse was called to beat back an incursion of undead knights. Taking up her sword, Morthwyl, she led a group of soldiers and hunters into the mountains to fight the threat. Unfortunately, the foes proved stronger than expected. Saoirse’s soldiers were scattered or killed, with Saoirse forced to retreat into wild mountains to survive. Pursued by her opponents and rushing through hostile land, she called to her patron, the Morninglord, to intercede. Just as the sun rose, Saoirse was transformed.

In exchange for her just demeanor and for her stubbornness fighting back the forces of evil, Saorise was granted a blessing from her deity. In an instant, she doubled in size and muscularity, growing additional arms. Her flesh bore resistances to the elements, which she observed when the undead mages unleashed their spells on her to little effect. She was faster, stronger, and tougher. To complete the look, her dagger had become a mighty sword. She was able to fight back against the undead and defeat them with her new strength.

Her strength continued until she slept that night, and in the morning Saoirse had found herself returned to her original body. She was able to make it back home to the Dalelands to bring them news of the victory and the losses, but her transformation puzzled her.

The time since has been spent recovering from her ordeal and pondering what had happened to her. Never before had Saoirse been the recipient of divine intercession, and it had not come with a manual. However, over time, she has learned to repeat her first transformation. It was not long since her discovery that her own Lord put out the request for heroes to come. While she rested, wicked drow had staged raids on other towns in the Dales. Emboldened by the power granted by her transformation, and concerned for the well-being of her homeland, Saoirse traveled to Daggerdale to volunteer.

Secrets:
A secret Saoirse keeps: Saoirse isn't generally the type to keep secrets from others. She is forthright and blunt. However, she hasn't told anyone about what happened in the mountains, or about her angel transformation. She told her friends and family that the battle was harrowing, that she was the only survivor, but not about the Morninglord's intercession.

A secret kept from her: Her parents have tried to keep their interpersonal disputes out of their relationship with Saoirse. However, the reason they separated was because of her mother's elf-superiority complex. Lavain secretly looks down on humans, and as a half-elf, that unfortunately includes her daughter. Lavain has kept her opinion to herself for now, however.

Contacts:
1. Her mother, Lavain. Lavain is an elf ranger who lives within the Cormanthyr Forest. Still in her early adulthood, Lavain is the sort of distant-disapproving-dad figure that Saoirse has always tried to live up to. Unfortunately, not being an elf has made living up to an elf's expectations difficult. Lavain is a hero, a hero of the elves, and more of a reactive than an active figure.

2. Her father, Sigurd. Sigurd is a cleric of Lathander who lives in the Dales. Now in his fifties, Sigurd has settled down from a life of adventuring. He now lives in a large Dale town as an influential political figure and local healer. Sigurd has always supported Saoirse, and his wide-reaching social circle allowed her to come into contact with many people as she was growing up.

3. Her counselor and mentor, Arielle. Arielle is a wise old sage of Saoirse's Dalelands village. Saoirse has been a sort of "hero of epic destiny" type of person since she was young. That sort of person doesn't attract a lot of friends, so Saoirse turned to Arielle for company. The pair take long walks when Saoirse is in need of company or mentorship, and Arielle, an older woman who never had children, dispenses what wisdom she can.
