Background::

The Failed Apprentice

Saoirse was not always the convulsive, shuddering mess she is now. She was once a promising young apprentice of a prestigious wizard in Iadara in Kyonin. Though only a half-elf, she showed great intellect and curiousity for one of her “type" after showcasing tremendous problem solving skills in her parents booth in Greengold. The wizard was adamant that he must be the one that would foster her clear magical talent. He hefted over a bag of gold larger than anything either of her parents had ever seen in their dreams. Though her human mother was reluctant to let a complete stranger take her “little light” away, Saoirse's elven father put his foot down. This offer was not open to debate and was an colossal honor.

Whatever that wizard saw in Saoirse, it most definitely wasn’t magic. Although he was very optimistic at first, the cocksure wizard’s mood fouled most awful as the weeks turned into months that then turned into years. He soon became bitter towards her, denying her food, beating her and locking her a cupboard; often one right after the other some nights. It was during one such horrible night that her ingenuity sparked as it had so many years before and she was able to pop the lock on the cupboard silently and snuck out of her prison. Deciding that she didn’t just want to leave, but that she wanted the wizard to pay for his harsh punishments, she snuck into his library and spotted a most wicked and expensive looking wand under a glass case. It was made of a black shiny glass, sharp like a dragon’s tooth and had a handle that looked like red leather. Was that a thin curl of smoke rising from the tip? Without a second thought, she opened the case and snatched her reward. However, the wizard came into the room as soon as she had wand in hand. Saoirse pointed the wand directly at the wizard’s sneering face and waved it.

Nothing happened.

With a laughter like the yip of a neutered dog, the wizard stalked over to the girl and grasped the wand in his own hand. Saoirse did not let go.

“Stupid girl! You can’t even summon a simple cantrip! What exactly did you think would…..”

He never finished his sentence. With an explosion that shook ever corner of the city the wizard’s tower blew apart into a fountain of fire, stone and soot. So great was the damage from the eruption of flame and debris, that the corner of Iadara where the wizard’s home once stood is a tree that still burns.

Though the wizard perished, Saoirse had great luck lived, flung into the nearby stream. However, it was assumed that no one survived the monstrous ball of fire. Though still badly hurt, Saoirse fled the next day on the back of a Varisian traveling caravan.

Appearance:
To look at Saoirse from afar, anyone may think her beautiful. She has all the hallmarks of both her shared lineages. The grace and beauty of her elven heritage plus the swagger and confidence of her human ancestry. However, upon closer examination one would begin to see the cracks in her visage. Her face is dominated by a large scar on the left side of her face running from chin to forehead. Her left eye is milky yellow (but her vision is not impeded by it.) Also, her dark black hair bares a shock of grey on the very same side as her scar.

Demeanor:
She moves in a twitchy manner, often gesticulating erratically in sudden spurts of speed for no good reason. He will often absent-mindedly twirl her hair between her fingers when intently listening.
