Actually muskets were quite accurate, not as accurate as the current day guns that have rifled barrels, but still, they were pretty accurate even though, they've all used smooth bores instead of rifled barrels, and I quote, "Most muskets were lethal up to about 175 yards, but was only “accurate” to about 100 yards, with tactics dictating volleys be fired at 25 to 50 yards. Because a portion of the powder in a cartridge was used to prime the pan, it was impossible to ensure a standard amount of powder was used in each shot.", which, I'm pretty sure that most bows were engaging from a similar distance as well, and it's definitely not an easy task to hit a target that's several hundreds meters away, but still, fire arms would hit a LOT faster, accurate, and more deadlier than any goddamn arrow in the world, I'll explain it to you on why is that: if you ever been in an outdoor shooting range, you might find lots of bullets, spent casings, shotgun shells scattered around the area, and if you were to go to check on your targets that are just couple of miles away (shot using rifles), what do you think you are going to find? 5.56, 7.62, .223, .308, .45-70, .30-30, .30.06, etc. And what would you not expect to find ? Like 9 mm. , .22, .45, .10mm, .380, .357, .44, .500 right ? Well, of course not, you wouldn't find these rounds, as they don't "typically" travel long distances, but wait, maybe it's not "typically" anymore ? So if you were to actually check those long range targets that are just miles way from the range itself, you'll definitely find .45 ACP, .357, .44, 500, oh, and even the 9 mm and even .22, now, why is that right ? Well, I'm definitely, not an expert, but, it takes a little bit of science to figure that out actually, but, to put it simply, just because the firearm itself doesn't have a smooth, rifled, or even a long barrel, that doesn't mean that the bullet would just "stop" flying, because, it won't stop flying till it'll lose it's speed and velocity, or eventually hits a target or an object, which will then stop prematurely. Bows and Crossbows cannot seriously deliver that much of speed, power and range into the target accurately and deadly enough when compared to an even primitive firearm such as musket, although, accuracy is a bit different when you compare musket and bow accuracy levels, but still, gun is a gun, it only takes is for a shooter to aim and pull the trigger and the bullet is flying fast at it's target. Firearms will always be far more superior to any projectile that uses any other methods than gunpowder.
