Ruedo nods at Nolletta. "As you wish. You know where to find me if you need me."

He then heads off with Madero, Yenna and Bodge.

Ruedo puts a hand on Garf's shoulder and smiles. "Then chase your dreams, my friend. Even if we don't travel the same roads, you will always be like a brother to me. I want you to be happy...and safe."

Ruedo approaches the group. "Thank you for all of your help. I think we should head on to the Archaeologist's Guild and report our findings."

He turns to Yenna and Bodge. "And so you can get your pay and report to your superiors."

The man then smiles at Madero. "I'm sure your mother would be happy to see us as well after all this time."

Ruedo shakes his head. "We did not find anything of importance during our time there, so there's not really anything to worry about."

After checking on Garf, Ruedo approaches the group. "There's no reason for us to remain here. Could we trouble you for an escort to Lysse?"

Ruedo looks to Sadhana. "I know you've just met us but Garf is more than our friend, he is our family. We would like him back with us."

Then he glances at the god. "Would we all be affected by this power?"

"Very well. Feel free to use any space that you need," Ruedo says.

"Would you like one of us to keep watch for you or will you continue on to Lysse after you're done?" Ruedo asks the group.

"It's random," Ruedo says. "Though they haven't come while it's raining or snowing."

"There's not a lot about them we can tell you," Ruedo says. "They come from the north and west-ish. Of course, they prefer to come at night."

"We didn't expect any help," Ruedo says. "But the thought is appreciated."

"Some inconsistencies in the architecture lead me to believe that there is more here than meets the eye," Ruedo continues. "But whatever that thing below might be, it does not need to be in the hands of cultists who would use it toward...nefarious ends. Its magical aura already lends it an immeasurable value and it should be in the hands of some trusted scholars."

As the group settles in, Ruedo clears his throat. "These ruins are from the late second/early third age and used to be a pilgrimage site for a demigod of magic and secrecy. All we know is that the demigod is most likely dead, a casualty of Norgorber ascension. We haven't uncovered a lot of useful knowledge, since most of the ruins have sunk underground over the past hundred years or so. However, the two cults seem to be separate factions of this demigod."

He pauses to collect his thoughts. "One cult, the Cult of the Pale Hand, is dedicated to assassination. They've come a few times trying to kill us, but they are few in number these days and Garf has been pretty handy in driving them off. The other cult, the Cult of the Dread Eye, is more interested in collecting whatever artifacts may be remaining here. They believe that with enough faith and magic, they can bring back the demigod."

"It's a bit of a story so you might as well make yourselves comfortable while Garf finishes dinner," Ruedo answers.

"He does a pretty good job with what he's given," Ruedo remarks.

"These are some wandering heroes who are investigating the area," Ruedo says to the assembled group. "They'd like to know more about the cults."

He gestures to each person in turn. "The halflings are Yenna and Bodge, the trap experts of this little group and happily married couple. The half-orc is Garf, our bodyguard though he's a little on the dim side."

He claps the other human on the shoulder. "This is my son, Madero. He would have stayed at home, but he likes studying old cultures."

Finally, he gestures to the elf. "And this is Nolletta, she arrived not that long ago."

Ruedo leads the group to the encampment and lets out a high-pitched whistle as he approaches.

"Besides the two cults that keep interfering in our work, not much," the man answers. "By the way, I am Ruedo Cardavan. Would you care for something to eat?"

Ruedo smirks. "Ah, 'heroes'. I am an archaeologist. My crew and I have been studying these ruins for the past three months."

"So you're just some wandering adventurers then?" the man asks. "Or mercenaries?"

He relaxes slightly, but keeps his hand on his dagger.

The man turns to face Tesia, taking in the rest of the group. "Who are you with?"

His hand rests on the hilt of a dagger, waiting for an answer.

Ruedo simply sits and observes, ready to step in if needed.

Eri la Grave wrote:

okay...sorry...I think I got it.

So...the boy that's explaining things to her...she's just asking him or I guess she wants to know what's wrong with the other girl. Like why she's not palying with them or whatever.

Just her curious nature hard at work. Don't worry...Eri isn't suddenly turning "good" or anything....at least I hope not. It would make things....difficult if she developed a conscious at this point.

For future reference and to remind myself later, I'm never disguising myself as a kid again. It's too complicated. I'll just be a slut or something easy to portray. Lol

That's So Ravan™

Ruedo finds a place to sit and keep an eye on Eri or any potential problems.

Ruedo nods. "Of course."

Ruedo nods. "It's not like we have anything better to do and you might learn a thing or two from them. Just be polite."

"To do what they are doing," Ruedo explains. "Having fun."

"Did you want to play with them, Katie?"

"Thank you," Bert says to the baker, taking the rest of the cookies. "Come along, Katie. You can enjoy your cookie as we're walking."

Ruedo takes a deep breath once they step inside the bakery, trying to ignore his angry thoughts.

Ruedo sighs. "Yes, Katie...I know."

Ruedo takes Eri's hand and heads back to the bakery, rather irate that he wouldn't be able to manipulate the sheeple of this town.

"Come along, Katie," Ruedo says, stowing his money. "You've been so patient. Would you like to stop for some more cookies?"

Ruedo shakes his head. "I think it would be wise if I held onto my money for the time being. I appreciate your generosity though."

Ruedo places the scrolls on the counter. "I've found that I cannot use these effectively."

This entire town is pointless. We would be better off burning it down, killing everyone and putting their heads on pikes, he thinks to himself.

Bert nods, straightens out his clothes and takes Katie's hand. Heading outside, he silently curses himself for not learning about nobility, but goes around getting a feel for the populace before beginning his task.

Kn(Local): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Kn(Religion): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

Basically, gathering information about the general economic status of the town, how they feel about their leaders and the church and seeing how widespread Mitra's worship is here.

Bored out of his mind, Ruedo gets up off the bed. "I'm going to do some research around town. Want to come along, Katie?"

I think I'd rather just "sell back" the scrolls and just gain the spells through leveling as I should. Never know when I might need the money.

I hadn't really figured that out.

I guess that's up to GMSCV.

Then there's the issue of being a spontaneous caster too.

Ruedo, were you attempting to Decipher the scrolls?

According to this, I can't even use scrolls.

Wish I had read that before.

Ruedo pulls out one of the simpler scrolls (Mending) and studies it.

Spellcraft (DC 15): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

Ruedo obliges and sits down on the bed.

"Just the one," Ruedo answers. "I have this room to myself, remember?"

Bert shrugs as well and opens the door for Katie.

"Do you think you should follow me into my room?" Bert asks Katie.

After Ruedo finishes eating, he heads upstairs to his room.

Bert fishes out a gold and hands it to the server.

"I'll have the same and some water, please."

"Is that alright, Katie?"
