Backstory:

Rowan was born to an old, but fairly minor, elven family, dating back to the beginning of the City of Stars' settlement, having a hand much of the magical infrastructure in the city and in the trade and makeof magical goods over the years. As he was growing up, Rowan was groomed to take over the family business, learning the magics and ways of business from the finest of schools the City had to offer. But Rowan always resisted. He wanted to be more than just an artificer. He wanted to test the boundaries of magic itself, learn all he could about it. His obsession and love for magical experimentation set him apart from others, both within and without his family, but it is what made him a successful student of the art. He would often forgo food and friends for study, but his sister, Sorala, looked after him, making sure he kept care of himself, even when he left home and took up residence in the Poor quarter. He was more than happy to spend his days as a researcher of magic and science, but fate had other plans.

Every week, Sorala would come to make sure he had food and to have lunch, discussing whatever new thing Rowan was working on. But one week. more than two years ago, she disappeared on her way home with no trace. The guard investigated for months, but turned up nothing. His family started to move on, but Rowan wasn't satisfied. He kept investigating, abandoning his research. For the next 6 months, Rowan searched high and low for clues, and in the process, uncovered other cases. He helped people when he could, but after the six months had passed, he found himself penniless and unable to continue. Hearing of the agency, Rowan applied in hopes of gaining the resources to investigate his own sister's case while continuing to help the people with his talents.

Rowan is an empiricist at heart, being trained as a scholar. He tends to break things down in the most logical terms possible. But although this is a boon as an investigator, most people find him to be cold. He speaks evenly and deliberately, but he is often short with people that he sees as incompetent. However, he knows how to manipulate others to his own ends and has a talent for reading people, especially when he draws his magic into the equation. He has a soft spot for a person in genuine and personal need and he finds it hard not to help them.

He stands tall and slender, as with most elves, with long blonde hair. He typically dresses in fine clothes under a leather overcoat filled with his various supplies and tools.
