Backstory:
Rothgar in his own words: I should probably begin at the beginning. About my actual father I know only two things. That he was an orc and that he could run faster than my mother. About my mother I know only two things. That she was a human and that when the time came she could run faster than I could. She abandoned me on the streets of Riddleport when I was just barely old enough to walk. I remember almost nothing of her. However, I was fortunate. A man came along who adopted me and raised me as his own. He taught me what it meant to be a man and how to conduct myself in society. His name is Thomas Stoutheart, and he is the man that I call my father. I see you looking at me a little funny because you guess the truth. My father is a halfling. He is also a highly skilled fighter and a cleric of Cayden Cailean. It did not matter that before too many years had passed that I was a lot bigger than my father. He was still able to beat some sense into me when I needed it. Talk about embarrassing. To be bested so easily by somebody so much smaller than you is a sure way to learn humility and respect. It did not matter how strong I was, my father has the ability to get strength on loan from his god. To this day he can perform feats of strength that I can not match. My father also demonstrated to me on numerous occasions that having great strength without the skill and training to back it up is almost useless. And when the time came that I proved to my father that I was mature enough to be trusted he made sure that I got the training I needed. So that's my story. I am a trained fighter. I tend to favor the Halfling sling staff for a ranged weapon as it is one of the weapons that my father taught me how to use. It permits me to apply my strength to a ranged attack in a way that one can't otherwise do without using an incredibly expensive handcrafted composite bow. Last but not least, a sling staff can also be used in melee combat, and it is inexpensive when compared to other ranged weapons. Granted that the sling bullets are a little on the heavy side and it has a relatively slow rate of fire, but then I'm not intending to be a pure skirmisher. I'm a medium infantry fighter, and I'm just what you need as either a caravan guard or an adventuring companion. When going against a pure heavy infantry formation I've got enough ranged capability and mobility that I can own them if I can keep them at range. If I end up coming to close grips with them, I've got good enough armor and weapons that I can go toe to toe with them. When going against pure skirmishers I've got enough armor and melee combat power that I can chop them to mincemeat if I can get close enough, and enough ranged capability that they won't have as much of an edge there are they're used to. In short, I can pretty much do everything you need a fighter to do and do it well. I can hold the line against tough opponents when I have other fighters and melee combat specialists on either side of me. I can also engage in ranged combat and do a lot of damage with my weapon of choice. Physical Description:
Rothgar is a truly humongous half-orc. He stands 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighs in at 318 pounds. He is 15 years old. He has greenish skin and dark brown hair. It is blindingly obvious that Rothgar is a strong individual and that almost all of the weight that he carries is muscle. He is built like a champion power lifter or body builder. He has arms as big around as most people's legs and legs as big around as a small human's waist. He wears his scale mail armor over a standard explorer's outfit. The items that compose his explorer's outfit are mostly varying shades of brown in color. He also wears a holy symbol of Cayden Cailean on a thong around his neck. Rothgar wears his longsword slung over his right shoulder with the hilt sticking up at an angle to the right behind his head. He wears the halfling sling staff and a pouch of 10 sling bullets on his weapon belt on his right hand side. He wears his gladius in the center front of his weapon belt rigged more or less horizontally and set up for a right hand draw. He wears his Morningstar on his left side set up for a cross draw. He has a small carrier with 5 chakrams in it slung off his left shoulder and set up so that he can pull the chakrams out one at a time with his right hand. Completing the collection of weaponry he has a dagger concealed in each boot. He will usually have his buckler strapped to his left arm ready for instant use. Equipment:
Encumbrance: Light Load < 101 lbs, Medium Load < 201 lbs, Heavy Load < 301 lbs Gear: 165 gp to spend On person: Explorer's Outfit________________(free)_________8 lbs
Backpack and contents: Backpack__________________________2 gp__________2 lbs
Total gold spent: 124.1 + 11.4 = 135.5, 29.5 gold pieces left over Total encumbrance = 71 lbs + 37 lbs = 108 lbs, medium encumbrance. Personality:
Rothgar comes across as more mature and intelligent than one might normally expect of a half-orc his age. This is largely due to the way his halfling father raised him and a reasonable amount of native intelligence on Rothgar's part. Rothgar is eager to make a name for himself. While he would probably take a position as a caravan guard if one were offered he would really like to get on with an adventuring company. He believes that would give him more opportunities to prove himself and get a good reputation. Rothgar would be at the Gold Goblin largely to enjoy the spectacle. He has a reasonable amount of money right now. In any event he would not be inclined to gamble unless he felt he had a good chance of winning.
