Rev, who usually goes by his surname Rosvenyr, had an easy youth traveling the world with his mother and father, a renowned pair of healers. They healed the poor and sick from Rahadoum to Vudra, where they discovered the followers of Irori. Impressed by the emphasis on knowledge and self-perfection, they remained in Vudra for several years of Rev's childhood before returning to Avistan.
Rev's education was varied and, some might suggest, impractical. His parents urged him to pursue many things unusual for a red-headed Ulfen child, from acrobatics to meditation. He trained in exotic styles of fencing alongside the scions of Jalmeray at various monastaries. Although a bright child, he had little patience for the more scholarly pursuits, and was frequently pulled into service with his parents, caring for the sick and elderly. He also developed a hobby of carving simple wooden toys for the small children of very poor families. Overall, his education was one of compassion and self-improvement.
Pathfinder
Although he is a superb swordsman, Rosvenyr very much prefers to seek non-violent solutions to the challenges he encounters as a Pathfinder. He has found that as often as not, it is less dangerous and more useful in the long term to make friends out of enemies than resort to bloodshed. Of course, there are always situations that cannot be defused, and for those instances a fast blade and a few tricks up your sleeve are what matter most.
When Rosvenyr first joined the Pathfinders, he was impressed by Grandmaster Torch's strength of will and commitment to protecting his fellow Pathfinders. Hoping to act as a guardian to his brethren, Rosvenyr opted to join the Shadow Lodge over the Grand Lodge. Unlike many members of the Shadow Lodge, Rev felts no real resentment toward the Decemvirate. However, he carries a lingering dismay that he was once unable to save a fellow Pathfinder, Maurit Zergo, who was being transformed into an undead ghoul. While Rev wanted to hurry her back to Absalom (in the hopes that one of the temples might cure her), the clerics he was working with felt it was better to destroy the poor woman on the spot. He has never forgotten her, nor forgiven himself for failing this comrade he never knew except as a monster.
In his off-duty time in Absalom, Rev explores the city, meeting people from the highest walks of life and the meanest streets. After seeing how the orphans in Auntie Baltwin's orphanage pass their days, he has also resumed his old craft of toymaking. Most of his creations are simple things of wood and string, which he either gives away, or sells to the Silver Crusade for them to give away.
Allegiances
Following Torch's betrayal of the Pathfinder Society and the disbandment of the Shadow Lodge, Rosvenyr found a new home among the Silver Crusade, with whom he hopes to – as they put it – "do good in the world using the Pathfinder Society's resources." He remains bitter about Torch, and is disgusted that the Society continues to work with him, rather than bring him to justice. Rather than dwell on this unpleasant reality, Rosvenyr has devoted himself to further perfecting his swordplay, which he feels is his life's pinnacle achievement, as a follower of Irori.
On a recent trip to Trollheim in the Land of the Linnorm Kings, Rosvenyr had his first encounter with the Ulfen people, whose heritage he shares on his mother's side. Their brutality and simple-mindedness left him deeply unimpressed, and he resolved to thank his parents for raising him in the schools and villages of remote Vudra. Despite his disappointment with his sturdy red-headed cousins, the attitude of his fellow Pathfinders to a bar brawl left an even more sour taste in his mouth. When faced by a unarmed mob of drunks, the party from Absalom responded to bare fists with naked steel. Perhaps there's more than a little truth to the repuation Pathfinders have in the northern lands. Perhaps the Pathfinder Society doesn't just need to be protected from the Decemvirate, but saved from themselves....
Sea Captain
Having toured the world and seen many of the highlights of Casmaron, Avistan, Tian Xia, and Garund, Rosvenyr finally made the commitment to purchase his own sea vessel. With assistance from Amara Li (with whom he has had many satisfactory assignments), he purchased The Laughing Crow, a modest two-masted junk he become familiar with during his time in Tian Xia. He hopes to someday see the mysterious continent of Sarusan.
