Appearance:
Rosalia certainly doesn’t look particularly imposing, unless her perpetual bored-slash-irritated expression seems scary to you. She's an average height, about 5'4", and moves with confident poise and grace. Though she's decidedly lacking in physical strength, she makes up for it by being incredibly agile and flexible, quick as a viper and sharp as the blade she almost always carries. Rosalia keeps her dark hair neat and trim, cropped below her ears in a particularly boyish style. Her eyes (very often glaring at you) are a rich steel blue, and her pale northerner skin burns easily and develops freckles after being outside for too long. Typically speaking, Rosalia wears plain, gender neutral clothes, although she would never be caught dead in a dress or make-up. Accessories are likewise eschewed for being needless flamboyance.

Background:
Born to House Lebeda in southern Brevoy, Rosalia was simultaneously born into immense wealth and privilege as well as incredible restrictions and misfortune. The third child in an offshoot family link, she had absolutely no chance of inheriting anything of worth—after all, her brothers were 'the heir and a spare' her father would be proud of, not her, a girl-child worth little more than to be betrothed to some distant nobleman and nothing else. Rosalia's rather heated arguments with her mother ("Why can't I do what Branimir and Leon are doing?") lead to incredible bitterness, while her father's constant disapproval lead to a stubborn drive to prove him wrong.

Much to her mother's horror, she cut her hair short (same as her brothers') and refused to go along with the other ladies' obsessions with fashion and good upbringing. Her mother, in a last ditch effort, finally convinced Rosalia to undertake magical studies, hoping that at least would calm her down... but Rosalia equally dedicated herself to borrowing her brother Leon's blade in the dead of the night and fighting invisible enemies amidst the straw of the stables. This was, of course, eventually discovered, and she was barred from doing it again, but Rosalia persisted, and received a number of sessions of solitary confinement or cleaning duties as a result. Once she was even slapped by her father—although needless to say that just grew her drive inside of her even more.

At about fifteen, forced into attending some stupid party, Rosalia was introduced (much to her horror—and despair) to the man that would eventually become her husband. He was ten years her elder, a Taldan nobleman by the name of Balthazar d'Arragnio. Gluttonous, loudmouthed and stupid, she grew to loathe him the moment she saw him, and the despair that had grown in her heart ever since she was a child—kept back only by the distant dream that someday her father might recognise her for who she was—exploded into full bloom, and Rosalia almost immediately fell into a deep depression. She swore to herself that, should she reach the age of majority before figuring out a way to convince her parents to call the whole thing off, she would kill herself rather than be tied to that beast.

Six months later, through luck or misfortune, Rosalia and her younger brother Nikolai were secretly out riding by themselves outside of their family's lands when bandits from the River Kingdoms waylaid them. It was easy to capture two unarmoured kids—and Nikolai 's big mouth quickly let them know that they were members of the Lebeda family, and hence potentially worth a fortune. They were to be used as ransom, it was decided, and in the meantime were kept tied up at the bandits' camp. Rosalia begged with the bandits—not to let them go, but rather, to kill her instead of sending her back to her parents—she knew they would blame the whole affair on her (well... technically correct) and would force even harsher restrictions on her ability to go out by herself. Besides... she was at her emotional limits by this stage. One of the leaders of the bandits, Terrico, took some bizarre amount of pity on her, changing the ransom note to declare that Rosalia had been killed and Z would be too if the gold was not delivered. It's likely his change of heart was as much to do with increasing the ransom's likelihood of success as it was true pity for Rosalia, but her freedom was secured at that point.

For the better part of a year Rosalia stayed with the bandits, learning the hard life of living off the land and preying on the scant few travellers in the area. Having never had to fend for herself, it was quite hard for her, and there were many times she almost wished to go back to her easy life back in Rostland. As unappealing as home was, banditry left her sour and guilty; the looks of fright on the people they waylaid would linger in her mind for days or even weeks after... and so, after gathering up enough courage, Rosalia declared she would be leaving for a legitimate life. She travelled through the untamed wilderness until reaching Pitax, and from there travelled down through Galt, Taldor, and Andoran.

Her arrival at Absalom coincided with the complete depletion of her funds, and Rosalia desperately sought some kind of stable income; and so she wound up joining the Pathfinder Society, determining that getting paid to travel around aimlessly was better than dying of starvation while doing the same thing. The rules and restrictions of the Society grated on her nerves, but having the chance to explore the world at someone else's expense was handy. And it gave her something to distract herself in the short term... for truly, Rosalia has no idea where to go from here. She burns with ambition, the desire to show her family up... that she could make something of herself without them and their archaeic views... but she hasn't the faintest idea of how to achieve that. In the meantime, she travels—reports—and explores—hoping that she'll one day find what she's looking for.

Personality:
Rosalia is possibly (definitely) a little too serious for her own good (humour? What's that?) and tends towards a shot temper and irritation at almost anything rather than anything resembling a positive mood. She's impatient and reckless to a fault, with a strong moral compass and sense of individualism that often leads to her having at least two feet firmly in her mouth. Rules and restrictions rub her the wrong way, as does anyone implicating that she is not good enough to do, well, anything in particular. She has little respect for authority... or, really, anyone else, setting low expectations for other people (especially men) in order to minimise the agony of seeing people fail up against her high personal standards. (This does not stop her getting angry, of course.)

Though well-spoken and highly educated, Rosalia does her best to hide her good upbringing, although it's pretty obvious to most people who spend any extended time with her. Ambitious but unsure of herself and how to achieve her goals, she finds motivated and inspired people to be incredibly frustrating, and is often sent into a depression from the jealousy spawned by their presence. She likes cats. Uh. Really. Likes cats. Although things with too many legs (such as giant centipedes and spiders) are, in her eyes, an abomination unto the world and must be purged with fire (magical or otherwise).

Familiar:
Rook is a black-furred tomcat of indeterminate breed with bright golden eyes and an independent streak (don't all cats?). He is quite intelligent (or, rather, sly) and spends much of his day judging people, severely, with his eyes, much to the amusement of his master. He's been Rosalia's companion since her time in the bandit camp, where he used to catch rats for them; she determined he was much smarter (and magical) than your everyday house-cat and so adopted him. Rook enjoys being petted, but he DOES NOT enjoy belly rubs. Touch there at your own risk.
