Any chance of setting this game as inactive?

Everything good?

Rohan breathes lightly as he looks around. incense and smoke never sat well with him, and he was beginning to feel a bit light headed.

Rohan keeps an eye for anything magical.

Arcana: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Rohan glances at his watch, wondering how much time they had left to solve the case.

"Find anything useful?"

Rohan has returned from his search, coming up empty. He puts away his comb as he looks at the screen.
Lol

Not keen on trying to see over the larger adults shoulders, Rohan decides to comb over the scene again, just in case he missed something. Both mundane and magical.

Investigation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Arcane: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

"I have a personal one, but I don't think I can get it and return in a reasonable amount of time. Is there a public library near here?"

"We still need to figure out what caused the victim's fall. Could be the bad mojo, could have been pushed. But I think our best bet's the gerblins."

Not sure if I'm allowed another Arcana check...

"There's some kind of presence, might be the victim, but I had to surge arcane energy to get any kind of reading on it. Could have been a magic that caused the victim to kill himself even."

Rohan glances over their "cartaker." Solving the case may be the main priority, but no doubt Henry Conyers was also taking mental notes on how they worked together in in this kind of task.

"Hey! Where we find Gerblins?"

Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

Rohan leans in closer.

"Where do you meet this boss of yours?"

Are there actually gerblins? or should I know he mean's goblins?"

"Where's your boss?"

"All we want are answers. Simple right? After we get them, you go on your way, maybe with a few extra bills in your pocket. What do you say?"

Rohan is going for a diplomatic route first

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Rohan assists in the restraining of their captive, but also gives and odd look to the Doctor.

"People don't usually look up. I'd recommend a roof of some kind."

Rohan rolls his eyes, and readies a spell in case the target wakes up and decides to flee.

Mutters something about stuck-up old men.

Rohan stares at him blankly, not moving.

He raises an eyebrow in disbelief giving a very blatant message of "Really?"

Note, this is Rohan wanting respect as someone who actually contributed to the mission, and deserves to be called by name.

"Calm Down! You just got hit by some of my magic is all! My bad! You okay!"

Rohan is still talking normally, which means his volume is at the shouting level. He decides its best to stop talking until he feels his magic has passed, and merely nods to sleeping Shadowkind.

"Sorry!"

It came as a shout though Rohan had simply spoken the word. Magic does work in mysterious ways. But for now, it seems they had caught their quarry, though a couple had gotten caught in the crossfire.

Rohan, seeing that he probably won't be able to catch up in time, stops, prepares his arcane might and unleashes a sleep spell. However, as usual, his power is leaking and a bit extra slips out in another effect of Wild Magic.

Assuming I always activate Wild magic when casting 1st level or higher spells

Sleep: 5d8 ⇒ (3, 7, 7, 5, 7) = 29
Wild Magic: 1d100 ⇒ 62
62=For the next minute, you must shout when you speak.

Rohan tries to figure out if there's a way he can cut him off at some juncture.

Intelligence?: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

If I can't determine a way to cut him off (like hail a cab or something) then I'll continue pursuit, in which case should I reroll acrobatics or keep my last one?

Rohan curses his college's track team and keeps moving.

If he gets to the dogs, or if Kyle hasn't broken them up with his interference..

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

Rohan, still on the roof, moves over to the railing as he hears Kyle's shouts.
He sees his co-worker make a dash as he chases some kind of shadowkind. Rohan makes a break for the stairs and starts heading after them.

While jumping from the 2nd story would be cooler, Rohan can't take that much damamge yet...

"We got a runner!" he calls to Felix as he runs past him.

"There's something here."

Rohans flare of power died down, and he wiped the sweat from brow as he sat down.

"Not sure if its the guy who died, but there's some kind of spirit here. It feels....fear, anguish.....in pain. Might've been the deceased, might have been what drove him to jump. Can't get my finger on it now though."

He could tell why Universities had been hesitant about adopting fields of study in arcane arts. when there was so much uncertainty, coupled with so much danger, it wouldn't be so easily adaptable to curriculum for a few years or so.

Arcane check: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 2 + 1 = 17
Expending inspiration

Rohan attempts to root out the arcane nature he's sensing. His eyes glow softly and it feels as if the world is moving in small vibrations. His breathing slows and he tries to feel where and what the magic is doing, if it exists.

So as to not clog up the gameplay thread, could I make another arcana check using the inspiration I was awarded?

Rohan has an uneasy feeling. He kneels down and tries to feel out with his arcane sense as best he can.

Can I take "20" by taking my time and investigating the area? I mean, we are actually investigating. If not, can I take another roll at arcane knowledge check

Rohan is up on the roof looking around, he doesn't see much that might be helpful. He closes his eyes and tries to sense any magic essence that might be lingering in the air. Go ahead and make a wisdom saving throw.

well....f@$%

Wisdom Saving Throw: 1d20 ⇒ 11

Rohan leaves the talking to Kyle for now. He heads over to the area where the man was before the fall, and where he landed unfortantely after. His eyes look for anything odd, anything out of place, and possibly....arcane in nature.

Investigation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Math is +1 int

Arcana: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 = 5
Math is proficiency bonus, +1 int
Welp...

I vote against stopping by. What are we gonna do if he calls? Drop our first case, drive halfway across town and try and step in? One thing at a time. Btw, should we be discussing this in character?"

"Then I think we have our first destination. To the scene of the 'accident.' Let's move."

"Maybe I've watched too many detective shows, but it sounds like we should go to the scene of the crime and look around."

I wonder if there was an autopsy report for a potential suicide...

"We should talk with his co-workers, see if anything was unusual about his behavior for that day. Unless someone here has a piece of paper I missed."

Rohan begins looking over Carl's file. He looks for testimonies before and after the scene, the details on the location of the accident, and pertinent relationships.

Intelligence: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10

An investigation or a enforcement...Don't really have a skill set for either of those specifically. Then again...

Rohan looked at the photo, a father with his two children. The fact that he was gone and they would never see him again.

"Carl Drain gets my vote. People roughing up a bar is one thing, but a man's dead with no justice dealt. The surviving family will have to live with that, never knowing what really happened, not unless we step in."

Rohan merely shakes his head. as he defaults to normal asocial behaviors was easiest when tired.

Rohan is still yawning off his nap from the drive over. He keeps his hands to himself, thrust into the center pocket of his hoodie.

Sitting in the waiting room of the office Kyle breaks his all but silence. Do any of you have a better understanding of what's going on? I was told this was a private security detail... and while I've been out of the game a bit in the city I don't know any of you, he says quietly in a deep voice before adding, On top of that, you - pointing to Derrick - make sense, but you - pointing to Lysander - are a lawyer? How does this combine with a... doctor? and a kid?

Rohan sigh. He was hoping to catch a bit more sleep in the waiting room. That, and he got enough of people looking down on him at the college. He pulls one hand out of his hoodie and holds it palm up as if grasping an invisible orb.

Not technically casting flame bolt cantrip, but making it manifest in my hand for some fluff should be acceptable, right? If not, I'll actually cast it to make a point.

From his palm a broiling fire turns over in his hands, its flames licking past his fingers as the heat and ligth intensifies. It swirls as a small vortex of fire. If you can see past the flame in his hand, you can see his eyes have begun to glow, a light blue aura emanating faintly.

"It takes all kinds, mate," Rohan says light-heartedly as he lets the flames fade away leaving his hand untouched. He gives Kyle a smile and returns his hand to his pocket.

So are shadowkind the various races of the dnd universe, and does that include humans from that world?

Rohan wakes up in the morning, the paper he was working on stuck to his face in paste of dried spittle. English majors were often considered as the easiest and most carefree of the liberal arts majors, but they didn't realize how much reading went into the essays and reports that had to be submitted, edited, and re-submitted in the correct format.

A vicious cycle indeed.

Fortunately his little hideout in an abandoned building gave him a lot of privacy. Just him, an old thrown out desk, a generator, and some blankets. He had to hastily find some clothes that were somewhat presentable before running off to meet his appointment.

He arrived, worn out jeans and hoodie, a blank look on his face as a nervous one might be seen as weakness. The SUV pulled up, and he opened the door to get inside. He then promptly closed the door and moved to the other side and got in that way as there was a large man already seated blocking the door.

He thought about saying hello, but the silence of the vehicle set the mood and he slumped against the car door, the vibration of the engine lulling him back into slumber.
