Rogar has never really been much for pets. He's usually to engrossed in his work to care for animals. Which is why he ended up with Grymm in the first place...
One evening late in his apprenticeship, as Rogar was packing up his mobile workshop, he heard a shout of pain from just behind him. Rogar had been concentrating so much on work that he'd failed to notice the thief who'd sneaked up on him and was helping himself to some of Rogar's newly made objects. A local wild goat had seen this however, and for some reason, had taken offence. Rogar turned around to see the goat viciously headbutting the thief, who dropped his stolen wares and ran. The goat didn't seem bothered by Rogar, so he collected his things, and as a thank you, offered the goat some of his leftover lunch.
Rogar has been stuck with the goat ever since. Wherever he goes, it follows. Though this annoyed Rogar at first, he's come to appreciate the quiet company, and even sees the creature as a kind of good luck charm. Plus, the extra pair of eyes never hurts. Rogar decided to name the goat Grymm, after a particularly hard-headed friend of his father. Grymm travels everywhere with Rogar, often sitting by the warmth of the forge while the dwarf works, keeping an eye out.
Background:
Rogar is a blacksmith, just like his father, and his father's father, and every man of the hammersmith clan back as far as memory stretches. Back as far as the quest for sky if his mother's tales are to be believed. Rogar's grandfather moved to Torch when he heard the tales of the mysterious fire on the hill, and it's burgeoning use as a forge. For almost 90 years now, the hammersmith clan have been making fine weapons, armour and artworks from skymetals and living comfortably off of the profits.
Rogar is the newest addition to hammersmith business. At the young age of 52, he's recently completed his apprenticeship to his father and has just begun working on his own products. His latest offering was an ornate adamantine hammer, which he has now sold to a dwarven art collector. Rogar was planning on manufacturing several similar objects, but the day after the sale of the hammer, the fire atop the hill went out.
Rogar has been quietly fretting about the fire for weeks now, not just because he needs it for his work, but because without it the town will surely fail. Without the fire, the Hammersmith clan haven't made enough to afford their contribution to this month's tithe, and Rogar's father is beginning to talk of moving on. Rogar would do anything to be able to continue living and working in Torch, so when he heard the latest call for volunteers to enter the hill, he signed up with barely a second thought.
Personality:
Raised by a proud family with a long history of smithing, Rogar is pretty typical for a dwarf. As a faithful follower of Torag, Rogar believes there are no problems that can't be solved by a liberal application of elbow grease and the determination to see things through. Plus, ale always seems to taste that little bit better after a hard day's work.
Rogar is proud, loyal and determined. He can be a little standoffish at times, and often gets too engrossed in his work to notice his surroundings, but he can be a firm friend to those he respects.
Appearance:
Rogar is quite tall by dwarf standards, has muscular arms from his love of work and a bit of a belly from his love of ale and meat. He has long red hair and a long beard, both of which he braids neatly to avoid catching them in the fires of his forge. Rogar often works with no top on, and most of his upper body is well tanned from long hours at the forge.
