Richard stands in mute shock, stunned and horrified by the android’s suicide until Kharax’s question snaps him out of it. ”She thought the ‘Dominion’ was going to take her mind... ”You know your tech.” Richard grins at Selkania. ”Alpha studied under the resident expert in Torch, and I’ve picked up a lot by experience since we first delved the ruins under the town. I think I can handle this, but it would be easier if work together.” Richard and Selkania are comparable in disable device. Richard’s only edge is that he has the rogue trap sense ability, and next level he will pick up the ability to take 10 on checks and disable magical traps. ”As you may already know, we believe there is a spy in Iadenveigh.” Richard begins. ”A few days ago a mechanical bird was shot down outside town by a local hunter. It bore a suspicious message which seems to have been sent to the Technic League by someone in town who was looking into the mutating effects of the Badwater. Redfang asked us to investigate, and we went to the Badwater to look around. There we found this,” Richard produces the finger cymbal and holds it up for the council to see. ”This is an instrument common to Varisia, but rare here. This led us to a group of Varisian travelers camping in Heddick’s Lumberyard. One among them, a woman calling herself Ilarris, fled before we could track her down. The other Varisians claim she was not officially part of their group and had been acting suspiciously. Her whereabouts are currently unknown, though it is possible that she may turn up at the Badwater again before leaving the region.”

”We have learned some things, but we have one more place to investigate.” Richard says, taking out the finger cymbal and holding it up. ”This is our biggest clue, and I think we should return to where we found it.” Richard casts detect magic and examines the cymbal. He also surreptitiously examines Redfang. I might be paranoid, but Redfang showing up just seems suspicious to me. Are there any odd auras on the cymbal or Redfang? Richard considers the Varisian’s wise suggestion. ”It may be that she doesn’t know we found the cymbal. After a search of the immediate area turns up nothing Richard asks a few more questions of the Varisians. ”Can you describe Ilariss? What did she day about herself and why she was here? Did she meet with anyone else in the area or have any contacts here? Is there any place she might go to before leaving the region?”

Richard bows and thanks the Varisians with a genuine smile. He had never played so well before, and was happy to have performed so well for a crowd that didn’t know him. It was a shame he didn’t feel safe introducing himself as he truly was, but if Redfang’s worries were justified he didn’t want to tip his hand to someone in the Technic League. ”I had heard a rumor in town that there was a performer among your group. Pretending to have found a rock in his boot, Richard waves the group on to with Haddick. "I'll catch right up." Speaking low, Richard suggests a subtle course of action. "Let's ask Heddick for a campsite for the night. I think we could more easily mingle with other travelers without drawing suspicion or spooking the spy that way. That finger cymbal is an usual object to carry around, and it could be that the person we are looking for is pretending to be some sort of entertainer. I'm a fair minstrel myself, and perhaps some music could draw them out." Richard approaches Haddick. "Are you Sir Haddick? My name is Richard. We are travelers passing through and heard you might have ground for is to set up camp for a day or two."

"I'm a fair scout myself, but I don't mind sharing the responsibility if you'd like to give it a shot." Charging the subject, Richard addresses all. "Ivik suggested we talk to some stonemasons near Badwater. The Bardleighs, he called them. Let's start there."

Stepping into the dining room, Richard steps toward the pair of travelers and raises a hand in greeting. He is a lithe man with silver hair, pale grey eyes, and features that are elegant, but almost too perfect. He is dressed in fine traveling clothes, and though he does not seem armored, he wears a bandoleer with various pouches and a belt that holds a fine rapier. "Greetings. Might you two be Selkania and Aurora? I am Richard, and these are my friends Alpha, Kharax, and Lewdon. Ivik Gunnett sent us your way. He said you might be able to help us with a problem in town." Richard translates the message: "The paper bears a sketchy map of Iadenveigh with the area of Badwater circled. A message in a strange language is written on the back—It looks to be Androffan as you can see here." Once done, he suggests the group head to the High Home and meet the other newcomers Ivek mentioned. "Extra heads on this problem can't hurt."
