PRE-SERVICE HISTORY
Born in Soweto, South Africa, prior to the slum's absorption into the greater Johannesburg area, school records suggest an above average student. According to his own admissions, he was on occasion on the other side of the law while juvenile, but nothing is on record, as he was never caught. As with other Apartheid-era documentation and information, many of it should be considered unreliable.

SERVICE RECORD
Joining the SANDF in 2008, Richard was assigned to the 21st Light Infantry Regiment, showing excellent aptitude at physical tests, wilderness survival, bushcraft and stealth, and excelling at close-range combat. His ability to utilise both of his hands equally well for all tasks was noticed early, as he was disciplined for using two pistols during a training exercise. (Record suggests the accuracy of both pistols was above the required minimum.)

Sent along with the 21st Battalion to aid UN Peacekeeper forces throughout Africa, Cpl. Makeba has shown excellent survivalist skills, the most notice-worthy incident being a raid on a Indonesian smuggling ring's encampment. Cpl. Makeba reportedly infiltrated the camp, set fire to the cargo of ivory, and exfiltrated alongside several natives, without being seen, urging the smugglers to give chase into an ambush. Following a successful peacekeeping operation and the conclusion of said Peacekeeper campaign, Cpl. Makeba was suggested for training for the Recces (SANDF Special Forces). While passing initial tests and requirements, he was de-selected from further tests following his psych-eval, due to him being 'unpossessive of the social self-control and maturity a Recce must possess.'

Upon returning to the armed forces, Cpl. Makeba's record has been checkered with both achievements and the occasional reprimand, hinting at ability as an independent thinker. Sources indicate a recruitment offer from NIA, but after [REDACTED: See Incident Report: XS/31.5.18], the offers were withdrawn on a permanent basis, due to UN Peacekeepers' insistence.

Excrept from Incident Report: XS/31.3.18
On 31st of March, 2019, during a raid on a militia encampment in the CAR, an unidentified material of extraterrestrial origin was discovered.

According to one Cpl. Richard Makeba, 21st RAI, the thing that peaked the taskforce's interest was that during a patrol, he'd found out a brand new and painted white refrigerated truck in the back of a house, marked as a location of interest. As intelligence didn't indicate the requirement for such a vehicle, he claims to have argued with his SO that this warrants further investigation.

A strike team was assembled to investigate, led by aforementioned Cpl. Makeba, which surrounded the premises as he scouted ahead. Upon infiltrating the main building, he noticed a group of three individuals (Description of one matches POI/XA-143), conversing next to a table, discussing payment of some sort. A large amount of crystals were placed on the table, as described by Cpl. Makeba, 'not like any diamond or crystal or whatever I ever seen, sir, not those colours.' Overhearing a discussion about bodies being traded, Cpl. Makeba assumed either pressed military or indentured labour, and was unable to hear more, due to the discovery of some of his troops. One of the men on the table was shot by apparently the bodyguard of the other, by 'a gun I never seen before, that wasn't no bullet or flamethrower. Looked all Star Trek like.'

Engaging the enemy forces, Cpl. Makeba opened fire on the two leaving the room, wounding both, but was forced to withdraw as the forces outside have engaged in a three-way combat, but not before managing to secure a cluster of the material. According to his own admissions, he attempted to board the refrigerated truck and follow it to its destination, but was discovered by the driver and was shot, sustaining wounds.

His formal report was submitted to SANDF central command where it has been extracted. It is apparent that Cpl. Makeba has formally denied any claims of experimental weaponry or unfamiliar materials, however he has made many informal questions and queries with both the Peacekeepers, NIA and SANDF. Personal recommendation would be recruitment and briefing.
