Seriously, I feel like he's taking too many hits to still be stabbing away! Is this Second Edition?

I say, bring in the heroic new party members to rescue us and sweep us off our feet. Red can sing weakly to spur them on.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

...aaaaand I forgot the attack roll!
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Oh! Okay, then Red will cast telekinetic projectile at the halfling

damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

16HP total and I took 18 damage total.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red uses the Shield block reaction on his Shield spell it has a hardness of 5

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Yes! So how do I do this? A hero point to stabilize.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red cries out in pain as the Halfling stabs him twice. He strengthens his grip on his sword and slashes at the little bugger. But not before summoning more ephemeral energies to protect himself.

Red casts shield and then strikes with his elven curve blade.

attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

There is plenty of room for all sorts of characters in the group! Having said that (and of course with the caveat that you should make whatever kind of character most interests you) I would recommend that any spellcasters consider being Arcane or Primal tradition since we already have occult and divine covered.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Acting as quickly as he can Red focuses. He doesn't know where this energy comes from, maybe the Ethereal plane or even his own soul, but it does not matter. Three bolts of bright energy the colour of cobalt streak from his outstretched hand

He casts magic missile using 3 actions

damage: 3d4 + 3 ⇒ (2, 1, 2) + 3 = 8

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Same here.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Best of luck and take care!

It is kind of amusing to visualize half the party just popping out of existence one by one...

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red restrains the impulse to touch his ear. This is not the first time he has heard that particular threat."Alright. One thousand gold pieces it is," he says. He looks at Nosteo and says."Give him the gold. I know we were going to use it to resurrect poor Cathirix but to day we could save another life. It is what he would have wanted,"

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

"We're not killers," says Red. "The only reason any of us would 'run you through' as you so dramatically put it, would be if you tried to kill us. Let us help you. It doesn't have to be this way,"

deception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red alters his tone and timbre towards a darker place. His manner changes from conciliatory to cold and unkind.

"After everything you've done halfling, you are doomed," says Red. "Fool! You reject help and instead bury yourself ever deeper. Say you kill the goblin, d you believe you can take on the three of us? No. And there are more coming. Many more.

Release the Goblin. Now. And you make it out of this alive,"

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

"What do-gooders?"[b] says Red. [b]"I'm just here looking around trying to find something to sell later. That's all. If you tried to burn anyone, it wasn't me. I've no quarrel with you,"

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Well isn't this just dandy!" thought Red.

Using versatile performance to make an impression
performance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

"Now, listen to me," began Red adjusting the placement of his voice to be both commanding and soothing. "You have no reason to hurt anyone and neither do I! Let the goblin go and I can help you. Believe me hostages are always more trouble than they're worth,"

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Taking care to secure his gear (broken strings are a nightmare to replace on the road). Red climbs up the pile of rocks

Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Red tries to retch again. Then he will try to sing Inspire courage

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red also uses his remaining action to retch.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Redsevic is overcome with nausea. The thing he wants to do the most is vomit the best breakfast he's had in a while. Instead, he sings. Projecting a well as he can without heaving, Red sings a simple worldess melody.

Red casts Inspire Courage giving a +1 status bonus to attack and damage to everyone.

Red took a moment to marvel at the citadel. For all the years that it stood, the structure still made for a magnificent sight. The plume of smoke formed a vermilion column which actually complemented the remaining architecture. The overgrowth clung to the citadel with the embrace of a desperate lover. When time allowed, Red would have to attempt a sketch of the building. It would not look this way forever and this moment deserved to be remembered.

Following suit with Hothfarr, Red cast his gaze around the party while Aerel of Korvosa looks for signs of Camont's passage.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Looking back at the others, Red asks Aerel.
Do you think they're okay?". The harrowed civilians need to be guided out safely before they take in too much smoke...

I'm also going to help get people out of the burning building

Red sits with the group. He has decided he likes these people.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Taking a mental note of everyone's stated capabilities, Red pretended to focus on tuning his hurdy-gurdy. He smiled briefly at Nosteo while glancing quickly at the Goblin trailing him.

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red gets up and positions his instrument a small hurdy-gurdy on his lap. A rich, textured droning sound emerges alongside a sweet lilting harmony. Red begins to sing in a clear strong tenor. The melody is at first unfamiliar until you notice that it's a reinterpretation of a song about Lamont Breachton the founder of this town.

Red hasn't changed any of the lyrics but his performance suggests a deep foreboding subtext. Every word seems to mean something ealse but what , you cannot say.

performance: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

Red was deep in thought when the dwarf approached him
"Hmmm...? Oh, nice to meet you. I've seen you around as well,"
he said shaking Hothfarr's hand.

He looked out at all the hopefully would-be heroes drinking, eating and talking. What bonds were being forged here? Everything felt so very ephemeral that Red was moved to express the sweet hopeless intensity of it all

"As a matter of fact I sing and play," he said the Hothfarr. "What do you think? Should I perform a little something? Maybe it will inspire us towards courage,".

N Human (half-elf) Bard 1, Truthseeker | HP 16 | F +3, R +5, W +6 | Ini + 2 | Spd25 | Perc +6 | Focus 1/1

All his life, Red had watched the influx of would-be heroes to Breachill. They all looked like fools to him. "Who's the fool now?". Foolish or not the Call to Heroes was the best avenue to get the answers he needed. It was all connected, Dahak the Dragon deity, the Hellknight fortress, Lamond Breachton and the town itself. But at the end of the day, adventuring was often a one-way journey to Pharasma's hall of the dead. If this truly was to be the fool's errand dead-end then he may as well have the best breakfast he could afford. A hearty porridge enriched with dried fruits and sheep's milk with a drizzle of honey and real bread (not the chalky adulterated kind!).
