About Rayik the 2nd

Rayik the 2nd is one of two brother princes, born to the new royalty of Vauldane. Their parents founded the kingdom of Vauldane after their original home was destroyed by Giants during the inception of the Giant Wars 30 years ago(an army of giants led by an ancient evil spread destruction across the Flaness). Rayik's mother was the only surviving member of the royal family, his father her anointed protector. Upon founding the new kingdom, she took her guardian as her mate and a new kingdom was born.

The kingdom flourishing under his parent's rule, his older brother to directly inherit the throne, Rayik spent most of his youth trying to find his place in the family. His brother was a born politician, taking to diplomacy and politics with ease, as he obviously inherited it from his mother, the queen. Young Rayik, however, was a born adventurer. Like his father before him, Rayik was gifted with physical prowess and a keen mind for details. His shortcomings, however, being his short temper and tendency to complicate simple tasks. He had no patience for diplomacy, and had no mind for politics. It was decided by his parents early on in his life that he would not inherit the throne because of this, and Rayik had no problem with this.

So, his father insisted that if he were not to be taught politics, that he would at least be taught how to defend the kingdom in service, if not in congress. Rayik was enlisted in the kingdom's army from an early age, and excelled at every step. He was able to overcome physical challenges with ease and adaptability. His father was impressed, and wanted to test his limits. Rayik was enlisted into the Arcane Academy, and to his father's surprise, showed an even greater talent for spellcraft than for his military training. He was immediately sent to the elves' best sword-and-spell trainers and taught to combine his talents as a Duskblade.

His physical prowess and keen intellect impressed the elves. He spent countless hours pouring over books whenever he wasn't training, absorbing countless trivial details of all manner of being in the world. "Knowledge is power" became his credo, as he learned to study his opponents before each fight; everything from their stance, gestures, physical traits, mental tendencies, etc. He made it his job to know the enemy inside and out, before the first round of combat would begin. By finding tendencies and patterns, he could predict and out maneuver his foes with deadly accuracy. Always wanting for uniqueness, he would train with less conventional weapons. Rayik now wields a scythe, most notably for the fear-inducing effect it has on less-intelligent opponents. His weakness, however, is that he puts too much emphasis on his offensive abilities, often leaving himself open to attacks from foes who luckily survive the first round of combat. His tendency to overcomplicate trivial matters once again rears it's head; instead of simply returning to his training to shore up his weakness, he chose to study deeper into defensive magics to bulk up his defenses instead. By focusing on Abjuration magic to do the defensive work for him, he can continue to overwhelm foes with his powerful spell channeled attacks with little regard to his own safety.

But, all was not perfect. Rayik was persistently headstrong, constantly challenging his superiors, and overall had trouble deferring to authority. It became obvious to his parents that he simply had too much spirit in his youth to waste sitting in the War Room, waiting to defend the castle against attacks that may never come. Having been adventuresome themselves, his parents felt he needed to go out and see the world, go get his adventuring out of his system, so that he may return focused on forwarding the progress of the kingdom.

Rayik took this opportunity in stride, and went out looking for the biggest, baddest challenge he could find that wouldn't outright kill him, and found an invitation to The World's Largest Dungeon.
