The Button Makers are seeking new recruits! We are currently located in the settlement of Alderwag located in the north among the Free Highlanders and the High Road Covenant, and part of the Coal Road.

The Button Makers History
The Button Makers were at first simple craftsmen. Having the understanding of the science and art to craft the most exquisite buttons, they were commissioned by the council, along with the church of Abadar, to mint coinage. Included in their duties and by laws, the Button Makers were responsible for ensuring the currency was not debased with false metals or forgery, and to arbitrate trades and similar agreements. To enforce these responsibilities for the common good, the Button Makers also became one of the more deadly group of assassins – as war was generally viewed as a destructive force on trade. A tertiary duty, known only to their membership, was the investigation and eradication of unsanctioned assassination and to maintain a political intelligence network to keep the peace and possibly influence it when necessary. Well, that used to be a secret…

Why Buttons?
Buttons were historically among the first means to identify rank and prestige, and used as portable money when needed. In this sense, buttons aren't just buttons. A new recruit will often be call a "button". The collection of a bounty is referred to as "collecting a button". Perhaps we'll even be able to convince the developers to add crafted buttons in game that offer a temporary bonus much like tokens or serves as a trophy for killing other players.

Company Concept
Think of the Button Makers as a group where the Mob meets Secret Service. Crafting plays a role in the company, but obviously not the only role.

Goals
First goal is to have fun. We don't dictate what fun is, as long as it doesn't fall into the "don't be a jerk" category. Our group tries to build community, establish trade, and honor/enforce agreements. We're looking for all roles and classes. We wish to grow the company to the point where we can branch out into other communities - in keeping with the network theme. That sort of expansion may not be done immediately, as we need to build up Alderwag first. When the button collecting business picks up, I'm sure there will be plenty of work for those who like to bust heads.

About the Membership
The core group of members are physically located in the Huntsville, AL area. We're all casual players with a lean toward crafting and PVE. We're usually on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night some time around 8:00 PM central time to midnight, and after 10:00 PM Mondays or Thursdays. Right now it's pretty easy to group up ad hoc, but as we grow we'll establish events and meeting times.

If you are interested in joining The Button Makers, send Grumdar or Wylder a message, or submit your in game application from The Button Maker company page. You can also just group with us in game and see if you like what we do. In addition, we're interested in members from other companies and settlements that want to join our network of agents.

Alderwag is a NG settlement in the Central Northern Frontier. Alderwag is the commercial heart of the North, devoted to Crafting, and with an Auction House to support a vibrant exchange of goods. We have strategic alliances with Ozem's Vigil and Forgeholm and by extension the other affiliated members along The Coal Road. As of April 2015 we hold 9 towers and are training to Level 12.

Our settlement management Company is "The Gauntlet". The Gauntlet is primarily an adventuring company whose members focus on defeating the bandits, cultists and abominations who infest our world and threaten the inexorable advance of civilization. Information requests in game should be directed to Taverian, Luther Phoebus, Shaibes or Loren Ashbow.

A senior affiliated company is "The Button Makers", a very active company with highly competent adventurers and crafters. Information requests in game should be directed to Grumdar. A fantastic post providing more detail on The Button Makers can be found in the Forum "General Alderwag Info" at our website, link provided below.

A newly affiliated company is "Forgehammer", a group of highly skilled crafters whose adventurers support and advance the goals of our allied settlement Forgeholm. Information requests in game should be directed to Aussiedwarf.

Alderwag strives to support casual, enjoyable game play for all. The mechanics of PFO take some getting used to and frequent cries for "Pharasma's Mercy" can be frustrating. We are very supportive of new players and happy to share gear with players new to the game. As a NG settlement we don't attach strings to such gifts - other than a request that you spend some time with this new gear slaying the opponents who threaten our borders.

For those of you who care about the provenance of things: in an old D&D Module entitled "The Gauntlet", brave adventurers attacked Alderweg Keep. If you knew that, then you should be joining today!
