Special Abilities
--------------------
AC Bonus (Ex): When unarmored and unencumbered, the Lifewalker adds his Wisdom bonus (if any) to his AC and his CMD. In addition, a Lifewalker gains a +1 bonus to AC and CMD at 4th level. This bonus increases by 1 for every four Lifewalker levels thereafter, up to a maximum of +5 at 20th level. These bonuses to AC apply even against touch attacks or when the Lifewalker is flat-footed. He loses these bonuses when he is immobilized or helpless, when he wears any armor, when he carries a shield, or when he carries a medium or heavy load.

Unarmed Strike: At 1st level, a Lifewalker gains Improved Unarmed Strike as a bonus feat. A Lifewalker's attacks may be with fist, elbows, knees, and feet. This means that a Lifewalker may make unarmed strikes with his hands full. There is no such thing as an off-hand attack for a Lifewalker striking unarmed. A Lifewalker may thus apply his full Strength bonus on damage rolls for all his unarmed strikes. Usually a Lifewalker's unarmed strikes deal lethal damage, but he can choose to deal nonlethal damage instead with no penalty on his attack roll. He has the same choice to deal lethal or nonlethal damage while grappling. A Lifewalker's unarmed strike is treated as both a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons. A Lifewalker also deals more damage with his unarmed strikes than a normal person would, as shown above in the class table.

Bonus Feat: At 1st level, 2nd level, and every 4 levels thereafter, a Lifewalker may select a bonus feat. These feats must be taken from the following list:Catch Off-Guard, Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Dodge, Improved Grapple, Scorpion Style, and Throw Anything. At 6th level, the following feats are added to the list: Gorgon's Fist, Improved Bull Rush, Improved Disarm, Improved Feint, Improved Trip, and Mobility. At 10th level, the following feats are added to the list: Improved Critical, Medusa's Wrath, Snatch Arrows, and Spring Attack. A Lifewalker need not have any of the prerequisites normally required for these feats to select them.

Redirection (Ex): At 1st level, as an immediate action, a Lifewalker can attempt a reposition or trip combat maneuver against a creature that the Lifewalker threatens and that attacks him. If the combat maneuver is successful, the attacker is sickened for 1 round (Reflex DC = 10 + 1/2 the Lifewalker's level + Lifewalker's Wisdom modifier to halve the duration), plus 1 additional round at 4th level and for every four levels afterward (to a maximum of 6 rounds at 20th level). The Lifewalker gains a +2 bonus on the reposition or trip combat maneuver check and the save DC for redirection increases by 2 if the attacker is using Power Attack or is charging when attacking him. The benefit increases to a +4 bonus and an increase of the saving throw by 4 if both apply.

At 4th level, a Lifewalker can use redirection against an opponent that the Lifewalker threatens and that attacks an ally with a melee attack. At 8th level, a Lifewalker can make both a reposition and a trip maneuver as part of a single immediate action with this ability. At 12th level, a Lifewalker can use redirection against any opponent that attacks him in melee, even if the Lifewalker is not threatening the opponent who attacks him. A Lifewalker can use this ability once per day per Lifewalker level, but no more than once per round.

Backstory
--------------------
"Rafi. Get your ass down here right now," yelled an old man at the sky. He was standing near the corner of a two story inn in the city of Unta, apparently yelling at the roof, and starting to draw a crowd. "I know you are up there. The nose never lies." Said nose was certainly predominant, but more than that was silver and gold armor of the head master of The Way of the Nine, the city's most prestigious school for warriors. That meant this man was Master Jusan the best teacher of military officers in the city. Many of his schools graduates went on to be officers in the Malazan army. Even his son was away on campaign as the sub-commander of the 9th Legion. A very prestigious position. But currently the master of The Way of the Nine was looking like a madman, yelling at the sky.

Unknown to the people below, Rafi, his grandson, was indeed up on the roof watching the clouds. When he heard his grandfather he let out an annoyed sigh. The old man was getting faster at finding him. Soon he wouldn't be able to sit down before being harassed. He weighed the options of staying or leaving and found staying to be the less pleasurable. The longer he kept the tyrannical master waiting the more training and punishment he was in for. With another sigh he begins the slow process of climbing back down the two story building. He could do it faster but that meant being punished sooner. When he got to the bottom he stood before his grandfather with a lazy look in his eyes. He know from how red the man's face was that he wanted to explode into a tirade right there but he couldn't with so many people watching, judging. Instead, he merely pointed in the direction of the school. Rafi thought about disobeying for moment but thought better of it. He knew how far he could push the old man and he was very close to the breaking point already. So he obeyed.

He reached the school first and walked into one of the open, indoor training areas. Along the way he mentally prepared himself for the storm about to come, the hour long tirade about honor, commitment, duty and more. But it didn't come. In fact, Jusan didn't even enter the dojo. He sat down on the steps leading into it and just starred out at the city. After a moment of confusion and hesitation, Rafi joined him, sitting a few feet away and looking up at the clouds. It was weird, just sitting there peacefully after what happened, but not altogether unpleasant. He never just sat with his grandpa. It was always drills, drills, drills. After a long amount of time Jusan spoke.

"I can see why you like this. Its nice. To just stop and do nothing for a while." There was a long pause. Rafi agreed. It was why he did it. But he figured there was more. "Rafi. You have a gift. A gift neither I nor your father has. A gift neither of us wants to see you squander. That is why we push you. Why I push you. We want you to succeed. It is the dream of every father to see their son become a greater man than them. Your father succeeded in that. And we want you to do the same."

There was another long pause. Again Rafi said nothing. He knew what his grandfather was talking about. He was a natural fighter. He could wield any weapon he wanted. At school he was taught swordplay, archery, and how to move in heavy armor. But just to be difficult he created his own style using a quarterstaff and no armor. His grandfather tried to reprimand him but few could even touch him in spars, let alone defeat him. He also had a sixth sense for battle. But it was more than that though. He wasn't sure how to control it but sometimes he could see things. Sense things. When hiding he could sometimes sense the presence of someone trying to find him. Sometimes when sparring he could see the attack before it came. It happened rarely but it usually got him out of sticky situations.

"Your father wants you to join the army. Don't." Just as the boy drew breath to speak, his grandfather cut him off and pointed at him. "He thinks it will turn you around. Give you some direction. You also don't have a choice in the matter. It was that or get kicked out. I tried to talk him out of it but all I got was a compromise. Five years." Rafi's eyes bulged at that. "You can fight however you want, even keep the staff style you concocted, but you have to stay for five years. After that," he pauses and looks back over the city. "After that, you can do what you want. Go where you want. We won't say anything anymore or force you to train. All we ask is that you seriously consider what you want in life. You can't just stare at the clouds all day. That won't feed you or make this world a better place." He sits there a little longer. Then, with a heavy sigh, he gets up and heads inside, leaving Rafi on the steps. And for for the first time in his life he didn't see the clouds as he starred at the sky. All he saw was the future. And it was as limitless as the sky. It was terrifying.
