Raemilia is a beautiful woman, half Shoanti, half Varisian-with sharp, golden brown hair, worn in a ponytail, and having a hand size tattoo of a wolf with a skull in the mouth-a reminder of not only her duty for the Lady of Graves, but her history.
Her father was a descendant of a great warrior of the Skoan-Quah (also known as the Skull Clan), and her mother was a wandering Varisian harrower. They both met at an inn in Magnimar-her father worked as a barkeep, and her mother was traveling to Korvosa-and they quickly fell in love. Her mother left her caravan, and her father quit his job, and both moved in to Sandpoint to begin a new life. Little Raemila was born nearly a year after they had moved in together, and for a time they were a happy family-but one that wouldn't last.
During a brief war, her father had left her and her mom to fight. He returned, but was badly injured in the arm-he could no longer serve in the militia. However, he was able to train his daughter into hunting his most despised enemy-the undead. Teaching her the strengths and weaknesses of the various forms of unlife, she quickly learned the ins and outs of undead hunting, and, within four years of training, she received her tattoo on the back of her right shoulder-a wolf wearing a white mask crushing a skull. The wolf represents Raemila and her tribal heritage; the mask represents Pharasma; and the skull represents undead. She rarely shows this tattoo, as it is what she has to remember by her family-her father died of illness within months after training her, and her mother disappeared. Some say she ran away, but Raemila believes she was simply taken or murdered-she wishes she could find out what happened though.
Raemila may be a gorgeous woman, but many could be put off by her quiet and stern nature-she sees the world as a constant fight for your very right to breathe and stand, and sees merriment as a waste of time. She refuses any kind of alcohol, preferring rich tea or sweet milk instead. Most of Sandpoint's residents she views with uncertainty-it's not that she doesn't trust them, it's just that she doesn't know what to make of most of them. The only exception is Ameiko, who she treats like a sister-any man drunk (or stupid) enough to try and woo her or insult her would be met with Raemila's death glare.
