I regret to do this but I think I am going to follow Eochaidh's lead and bow gently out. I have been trying to post for a few days now and just been drawing a blank. My well of inspiration for Rabbit is dry. :(

I still think the game premise is interesting and wish you all luck with it. I went back and forth a few times with this decision but I'd rather go out at a break between story segments and accordingly allow our GM to recruit for someone who will be faster at posting and bring fresh energy to things.

Best to everyone. Please feel free to use Rabbit as a healer, buffer, and whatever else is needed in an NPC capacity.

Rabbit's face goes pale and there's a curious rushing filling his ears, nearly drowning out the soldier's words. I won't go back to being a slave! I won't! You think you can just CLAIM me, you think I'm a THING, you--

Tymos isn't done, however. The soldier keeps speaking, giving a grudging admission that Rabbit is not, in fact, currently 'subject' to Chelish law. The halfing breathes rapidly, his hands gripping the tri-gem so tightly his knuckles go white.

Rabbit will save to keep his temper: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16

He is silent a dozen breaths after Tymos ceases to speak, and then manages to nod, curtly.

"I appreciate that you understand the current reality of the situation," he says with seeming mildness. "Laws, after all, can change and dissolve quite rapidly as new rulership comes into power. The lines of Cheliax and Andoran are drawn on maps, and those maps have all been torn to pieces. It is an intelligent man who understands how to adapt, isn't it, Mister Tymos?"

And if the Chelish ever regained control of this shard, you'd be just as happy to call me a slave again, wouldn't you.

Turning on his heel, Rabbit addresses his friends. "Let's meet our new inhabitants and put the worries they all surely have to rest by stating our intentions and the new model of government. We also must see that Talschornvox gets her share of etherium, as per our bargain, and... well. There's just an awful lot to do, isn't there."

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit's face takes on the look of a hunted deer. He clutches tighter to the gems, holding them protectively to his chest (whether for his protection or theirs is up for debate). With a wary look at Tymos, he slowly steps forward.

If he were a bolder sort of person, he might say As your new lord I don't take orders from you, but he's not.

".....yes?"

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit trots along behind the others, offering a hopeful smile up at the woman every few seconds in an attempt to be reassuring. But more of his attention is taken up by the now tri-une gem shard.

"Hello again Deshrit! And Delian! And nice to meet you, Apachal. I'm not a lord, just a halfling, but a pleasure to make your acquaintance! I'll carry you all if that's alright..."

With the shards finally secured he breathes out a little easier. At least Berik won't have control of them. The grim logistics of justice aren't to his tastes, but he supposes they'll have to do... something with the man.

For now, he just hurries behind the others, watching the small drama of the soldiers.

"It may be difficult to ever trust anyone here," he sighs. Who knows how much loyalty the soldiers will bear towards their deposed ruler?

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit looks nervously to the others to see if they will answer Tymos; if no such answer seems forthcoming then he clears his throat and gives Tymos a tiny nod of 'yes go ahead.'

He doesn't trust Tymos much still.... but if Berik conveniently 'escapes' then Rabbit supposes that will go a good ways towards settling things. There are worse tests.

Tagging along with the others, he gives the woman a hesitant smile.

"Oh good you're awake! I healed you, earlier, but it wasn't enough to get you conscious. Nice to meet you, I'm Rabbit."

Sense motive on Berik: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Why should we believe anything you say?!" Rabbit exclaims at the former ruler. "You're a monster. You collaborated with these dead... ugh, I don't even want to talk to you!"

Shaking his head as if to clear the noxiousness away, Rabbit aids with the search. "Is anyone else still hurt? I have some healing still."

The halfling gives Tymos a wary look but the man's assistance in the fight has earned him at least... some credibility, though Rabbit doesn't forget who the man is. "A merchant? Yes, maybe she can help with the figures. I.. can do some? I mean, I kept inventories for my... before. Inventories of ingredients and things."

Rabbit picks up the ornate scroll that Berik was carrying. "I wish I'd learned that little spell that lets you read magic," he sighs. "Hang on, I might be able to figure this out the hard way. If I'm-- well-- lucky, heh..."

"I can't do anything more for her today, but I healed her earlier enough that I hope she can make it through the night," Rabbit says with a twist of his hands.

Meanwhile Mr. Whisper is closing on Berik with a murderous gleam in his small beady eyes. Rabbit notices it in time to hurriedly scoop his rabbit up.

"Nono, Mr. Whisper! Nono. There'll be a trial. Um, shouldn't we search him to make sure he doesn't have other weapons? And maybe-- the dead ghouls too?"

Trusting that someone else is maintaining vigilance on Berik, Rabbit sidles away to start looking over the ghouls. He still feels a pang looking at their grotesque faces-- monstrous now, but once just.... people. He will do as he did before and try to set their limbs into some sort of order, close their eyelids, while also looking at their possessions.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

"That seems like the best idea," Rabbit says hesitantly. "A trial. Justice from the people."

The halfling side-eyes Tymos as he says this, unsure how the warrior will react to the group's proposition. He adds, a bit passive aggressively, "After all, a lord mayor should protect his people. Not feed them to ghouls. So he's not really much of a leader, is he."

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit pauses a moment when Berik calls out his surrender, an unusual amount of a desire to punish the man surging through him. He twists his hands together, grimacing.

"You lied to us once! You tried to get us killed! You'll probably try to do it again as soon as we let our guard down!" he blurts.

Rabbit exhales in relief when one ghoul, at least, is rendered no longer a threat. His fellow halfling looks very injured. Rabbit whispers similar words to what he just said and again his hand starts to glow. At the same time, the white rabbit writhes out of its satchel and the light seems to transfer from Rabbit's hand to the literal rabbit.

"--oh. Oh, okay, um, if you're sure," Rabbit says uncertainly. The animal doesn't respond verbally, but leaps down and hops to Kevan, nudging against his ankle. The halfling feels a wash of healing.

Rabbit tries again to touch the ghoul with life energy...

If that hits: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Will save DC 15 for half.... but of course I roll a one. ugh. If the ghoul's still up, I'll take a 5ft away; if it's dropped by either me or Jaxom, I would instead step into its square towards Kevan.

"Hang on, Kevan, I can heal you a bit!"

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Why is he here? A question that runs through Rabbit's mind, certainly. He would so much rather be back home, tending to the village livestock, as he did before the first shard-stone was found. Alas. He is here, wincing at the pain of the foulness that Berik calls forth, clutching the edge of the desk for balance.

He lowers the crossbow, as it seems he's not much of a good shot with it, and throws a longing look back over his shoulder at the door they came in by. He could slip out right now...

No. No. His friends need him.

He mutters a few desperate words, then beelines south for the ghoul that Kevan and Tymos are fighting, a pale glow wreathing his hand as he goes. Casting cure light wounds, holding the charge, moving

Nice Crit, Eochaidh... kinda surprised it's still standing after that!

Seeing Kevan and Eochaidh dealing with one enemy, and Jaxom going stiff while fighting the other, Rabbit's not sure where to focus. He wishes he had more good fortune to call upon, but... if wishes were horses, and so forth. He hurries into the room and aims his crossbow at the one who appears to be casting witchy-spells.

"L-leave my friends alone!"

Rabbit is tensely silent through the verbal confrontation, unsure if anything he could say could help or harm. Knew it, knew it, knew Barik was evil....!

I took the liberty of adding a grid to the map, hope that's okay. Not my turn yet in initiative but I moved myself to be inside the room.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Last on the ladder, Rabbit strains to hear-- is that... Berik? Kevan's mouthed statement seems to confirm it. The smaller halfling swallows, not sure what to expect now. Will Tymos turn on them...?

He waits, nearly holding his breath.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit hangs back at the rear as they move cautiously forward after their scouts. The last of the good luck that he can manage to invoke on his friends has faded to nothing, and he supposes he should have saved it-- but there were so many ghouls! Perhaps if you fight a lot of battles you become good at knowing which ones are the truly dangerous ones... he never thought he'd be someone fighting those battles.

At least he can still heal people, he supposes. He licks his lips nervously as he picks his way ahead of Alden-- pausing a moment as he realizes he never cast a basic protection spell that day.

Just noticed I never put up Mage Armor on myself, that was a lapse. I'll cast it now.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Sorry to hold things up.

Rabbit's heart beats a nervous tattoo in his throat as the battle unfolds. He quickly steps up behind Alden and touches him on the back. "Good luck, Mr. Cooperson."

Once again the half-giggles start.

5'ft step, touch Alden with Fortune, move to cackle

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit murmurs the words of one of the first bits of magic he was ever able to pull off-- a tiny spell to determine if something is magical or not, as he looks at the impressive cloak.

Detect magic; if magical, he'll try to ID it:

Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29

"I think that's a good plan, regarding the lady. Keeps her safe if she's going to live. And if not... um... well, keeps US safe."

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Healing Hex: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit keeps close to the others, his heart thudding in his ears with his nerves so loudly he's surprised the others can't hear it. He does not have any particular interest in money-- far more concerned with ghouls than coins.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit nods his agreement to the plan of the others and takes up his spot at the rear again, nervously nibbling on his lower lip.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Healing Tymos was not on his bucket list when waking up for the day, one might say, but Rabbit is conscious that whatever the man's deeds, he is currently... vitally... a body between monsters and Rabbit himself. The healing touch that he delivers in combat is as quick and fleeting as it can be, and he does not volunteer more healing to the man after the ghouls are dropped, furtively watching to see if the others do. They do. He's not sure if he's disappointed or relieved.

The giggling that has taken him like a fit eases, leaving him a bit breathless and wiping his forehead. That was new. He's not sure what to make of it. As he often does, he reaches into his satchel to reassure himself by touching Mr. Whisper's soft fur.

"I... I can't make anyone else lucky today... except for Mr. Cooperson. And... and Mr. Tymos, if we run into more fights. But yes, I guess we can go on. Hang on a moment though... these... these used to be-- you know-- people."

Checking the ghouls to see if they had anything on them, though it seems unlikely.

Rabbit tries to arrange the bodies of the ghouls into slightly more peaceful positions, rather than leaving them as they were, hacked and battered. Conscious that some probably don't care about this, he tries to hurry as he bends the now-grotesque limbs into position, arms crossed over chests, eyes closed, mouths closed too to hide the hideous fangs that are stained with human blood.

"Pharasma please guide the souls of the people they once were," he whispers in a little blurt, then nods his readiness to continue.

Is anyone else in the party hurt beyond scratches? I don't think so

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit steps slightly closer to the others so that he will be well centered in case of anyone needing healing. He continues to giggle.

5-ft step; move to continue to cackle, maintaining Fortune on Kevan, Jaxom, Eochaidh; standard to ready a healing hex [equivalent to a CLW] if an ally within touch range gets hit

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

You can reroll that if you want, Eochaidh (Fortune). Or you could save it for a potential paralysis save.

Rabbit edges a little closer to the fight, and reaches out to brush his fingers against Kevan's shoulder before the other halfling runs ahead.

"Good luck!" he gasps, between more giggles.

5-ft step, activate Fortune on Kevan as well, and Cackle to maintain. Fortune active for 2 rds on Jaxom, Eochaidh, and Kevan.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit takes a nervous breath as the sound of the ghouls gets closer. He wants to run the other way, but the rabbit in his satchel is squirming with aggression, as if the beast could go fight the undead on his own. He pats the satchel in a nervous way, partly to reassure the rabbit and partly to check the satchel clasp is secure.

He takes a tentative step closer to have a better line of sight-- and suddenly has an.. image, of sorts-- or a sound, rather, in mind. Tickling at his tongue, begging to be let out--

Blind the hunters! Close their eyes! While predator blunders, rabbit flies!

The words that spill from his mouth aren't Common; he's not precisely sure what they are. But a cloud of twinkling golden dust comes out of nowhere in response to those words. His hitching giggling continues afterwards.

5 ft step; move to Cackle (Jaxom and Eochaidh, extend Fortune duration), and standard to glitterdust the ghouls. I should be able to hit them all, will save DC 16 vs blindness

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Yeah, Fortune alone makes witch a solid buffing class.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit nods wordlessly at Alden's instructions, hurrying to comply, but saying nothing as he keeps up the hitching giggling.

Round 1, move 20' and cackle; round 2, move 20' and cackle. Fortune remains active on Jaxom and Eochaidh, duration 2 rds

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

It is probably going to be active this entire combat. I am using my move action each turn to sustain it on Jaxom and Eochaidh, so unless something interrupts my ability to do so, it will stay active.

It does not require any action on your part to activate it-- I am the one spending actions to keep it going, you just declare that you are using it. It just requires you to declare you are using it before the roll, in theory. Declaring that you want to use it on any saves against the ghouls' abilities is valid, but has to be communicated so we know that's what you want to do.

Again, using it doesn't "use it up" - it is an effect that is active ON you-- you are under the effect of the Fortune hex-- and you can use it once per round for as long as the effect stays active. (And I'm keeping the effect going with my actions.)

Just a gentle reminder for the targets of my Fortune hex that it only has a benefit if you declare you're using it :) It's fine if people want to declare they are saving it for a paralysis reroll, but we should communicate that. Jaxom, you could have used it on your attack last round if you wanted-- not saying retcon now, just saying there are opportunities if we claim them.

"Oh no-- Kevan!" Rabbit gasps, watching the other halfling freeze up. He hurries forward, though the breathless giggling that seems to have overcome him means he doesn't get too far.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

I can't seem to move my token right now. If someone would move me up directly south of Alden that'd be good.

Rabbit hurries after the others to keep close. The eerie giggling continues.

Move action to move, move action to Cackle and maintain the Fortune hex on Jaxom and Eochaidh

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

"Luck to you too, Eochaidh," Rabbit whispers, and his eerie giggling continues.

Std to put Fortune on Eochaidh, move to cackle, extending the duration of both Fortunes (Eochaidh and Jaxom) by another round.

For Jaxom and Eochaidh: you must declare you are using the fortune before you roll it (which I know is a bit awkward in PBP and requires honor system) but my understanding of it is that it doesn't expire once used. It's once per round, but you get the benefit for as long as I keep cackling. It's also completely valid if you're wanting to save it for a possible paralysis moment. My point is just that you don't have to worry about 'saving it' because right now you both have it for two rounds and even it you use it this round will have it again next round.

GM, if you would rule otherwise on Fortune, let us know. This is how I've seen it run at Pathfinder Society tables, FWIW.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Noticing Eochaidh nudge Jaxom, Rabbit tenses up. "Luck to you!" he whispers to Jaxom, and then, seemingly out of nerves, blurts a tiny strained giggle.

Rabbit stays near the rear, occasionally whispering a small incantation to check for any magic near or around them. His heart beats fast in his throat as they go deeper into the crypt; the others may be experienced at this sort of thing but he is not. He tries to keep distance between Tymos and himself-- which in these close quarters mostly means making sure another person is between the two of them.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

As I understand it we had the chance to rest/prep spells, so Rabbit will change his prepared spells to be nothing but cure lights and cure moderates for today.

Rabbit is as nervous as ever as they prepare to go in. He will bury himself in the center of the group, one hand cradling Mr. Whisper to his chest and the other holding the potion that Talschornvox gave him, ready to drink it when they are attacked.

He pauses a moment at the body of the dead woman, or undead, or re-dead. She's a gruesome and tragic sight and again he wonders who she was, Before. He cannot quite help himself from trying to arrange her mangled, grotesque body into something a little more at repose-- crossing the arms over the chest, straightening the limbs-- but he spends no more than a handful of seconds doing this before it's time to move forward... and in.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit tucks the potion away on his person as it seems that people are in agreement that he should keep it. He rubs at the back of his neck as the idea of making holy water is brought up.

"I.... I mean, if it's going to take days to make even a bottle or two... is it really worth waiting that long? I feel that the longer we delay, the greater the likelihood that something bad happens. The ghouls make a move of their own, the lord-mayor decides the deal isn't so good after all... I just feel nervous. ...of course, heh, I usually do, so... take it with a grain of salt."

On the one hand, holy water WOULD be nice, on the other, crafting takes forever for such small amounts of holy water (assuming we can't expedite it with the magic metal, but I'd definitely prefer we made something better than a low-level consumable using it). Also, I admit as a player I'm kind of feeling we should just go for it. It was August 21 real-world that we first learned of the ghoul menace. For almost five real-world months now we have been "prepping" for the ghoul fight by asking questions, gathering info, etc etc. This isn't anyone's fault to be clear-- I am just as guilty of being slow as anyone else-- but the lifeblood of PBP is being able to keep things moving. I don't know if spending another real-world week or two in dithering over further prep is worth it. If we were voting, I'd say we just go for it now.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

Rabbit proffers up a bottle to the others as they plan. "Lady Talschornvox gave me this," he offers timidly. "I recognize it. It's an elixir to hide from things like skeletons...or ghouls, though not as effective as it would be against an undead that doesn't have any brain left. I think maybe it might be best if I used it-- I don't do much to hurt the monsters, but I can help everyone else still while I use it. Unless someone else wants it?"

He wonders who the ghoul in the red dress was... if she had family still in the town... but it doesn't seem like any joy can come from such questions, only sorrow, so he doesn't ask it aloud.

M Halfling Witch 3 | HP 18/21 | AC 14 (18 w MA) | F3 R4 W5 | Init +8 | Per +4

If Rabbit sees anything worth shooting at, he would most likely use dancing lights (130' range) to try and light it up for a guard, and/or use Fortune to allow the guard to roll twice

I take it no results worth nothing from the nat 20 Diplo with the dragon, then. Other than perhaps her not being pissed off at us for being too cautious.

Rabbit is a jangle of nerves when Kevan heads off alone, but it would be VERY rude to abandon their guest-- there at their request, after all-- and run after him. He frets uselessly, doing his best to maintain a polite and focused demeanor with Talschornvox, and tries to carry on with dinner. Fortunately, the others come back relatively shortly thereafter, explaining that perhaps things can be learned from taking watches on the town wall.

He doesn't consider himself much of a watchman but will try to take a shift with the others if it seems necessary. He'd much rather spend some time checking the goats and chickens and other animals, and helping Milana around the inn, trying to keep busy to keep his nerves from getting the better of him. Standing watch and staring at a wall waiting for ghouls to climb over it would be hell on his nerves, but running back and forth between the tailor's shop and the inn and the yard with things to do is a good way to take his mind off the thought of facing undead shortly. Mr. Whisper is always with him, and when anxiety threatens to overcome the halfling, he sits still, holding the rabbit, compulsively petting the animal's white fur and-- though he doesn't really think of it this way-- communing with his familiar and internalizing the magic that the animal has taught him.

The rabbit says run. It embodies the spirit of flight, of running so far and fast as to leave trouble behind. But the world has been broken and the pieces are small; he cannot outrun the ghouls next door-- or Tymos, or Barik-- as he once did Mistress Morus's reach.

He dutifully tags along to take a watch if the others mention that his presence is expected, though he holds his rabbit close.

Guess I shoulda rolled one, my bad.

Attempted Diplo: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28 .......yeah, I should definitely have rolled one. Woops!

In the wake of his earnest speech to the dragon, Rabbit suddenly blinks, as Kevan is.. leaving?

"Um... Mr. Nimblefingers, where are you headed?" he says, rather nervously. He does many things rather nervously.

"Alas, I do not need any wine Rabbit, but might I see your familiar?" she returns as her smile turns more sinister.

"These new neighbors seem to be a fruitful opportunity for you all. Do you intend to be this concerned each time a shard merges?" she asks, "I had though you more... industrious. Where is your paladin?"

Oh dear, Rabbit thinks, and clears his throat a bit nervously. Hopefully, a dragon would think it was rude to eat your familiar right at the table? Hopefully? Right?

He nervously fetches Mr. Whisper and holds the squirming rabbit up after leaning in to whisper Behave! to it. The rabbit does not seem assuaged by this command. Slowly, Rabbit proffers over the white bunny, which glares with a pink eye at Talschornvox.

The question also seems rather fraught. "Mr. Cooperson is seeking some further council on the undead," he says after a moment's hesitation. "And with all respect, great lady, I think it's, um, better to be cautious than to charge into, well, any situation without knowing what you're dealing with? Or trying to? Caution is maybe what kept us alive with you, since if we'd come in eager to fight I think that we would all be past meals by now. Anyway, if nobody knows more about them then we'll just go do our best, but I don't think it's bad to try and learn things first. Er, ma'am."

Rabbit scrambles to his feet with wide eyes on realizing that the dragon is among them. He bows deeply, checks that Mr. Whisper isn't looking particularly edible, and nods several times at Talscharnvox.

"It's as they say, great lady. There are ... new neighbors, and they say they will abide by our leadership if we rid them of a problem they currently have. If they abide by our leadership then we can ensure they don't bother you or violate your woods, ma'am. It's just that we haven't got any knowledge of the things plaguing our new neighbors and, well, we'd like to, um, succeed. May I get you anything to drink?"
