Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Initiative (1d20+1=16)
At the top of the cliff, Qadim-sul readies his crossbow and fires at the closest drake, cursing as his bolt flies off into the darkness. Attack (1d20+3=4), Dmg 1d6=2

Drivish Ammasin wrote:

"If we're hammering pitons, I don't know how stealthy this is going to be. I think it's time to travel as a group."

If the others agree Drivish will volunteer to climb first, and if Qadim-sul can fly he should probably go last to watch for trouble, or at least hover right next to Rin, in case of the inevitable.

Unfortunately I can only fly for a short time (1 move action) and short distance (8 squares), but I can float harmlessly to the ground if I'm not on solid ground at the end of the move (at least that's how I read the power). If we're all going to climb, I'd rather do that too and save the power for later.

Qadim-sul agrees to take the last position, scanning the floor below for danger.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Of course." Qadim-sul hands his climbing kit to Lafiel and helps prepare the ropes for her descent. "I can fly down with you, if you like, unless you prefer to do more stealthy scouting on your own."

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"It's cursed, so it's going to follow you around regardless. I'm just suggesting wearing it on a thong around your neck or something, to avoid the constant surprise of finding it in your pack. Clearly it has something to do with greed, the only question is whether the curse is temporary or permanent. Personally, I'd rather have it close at hand-" -Qadim-sul flashes a wry smile- "-if we find a way to break the curse, than have to look for it at the time. If it can appear when we don't want it, who can say it won't disappear when we do?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul attempts to add his own expertise. Arcana (1d20+10=27), History (1d20+10=27)
"Perhaps if you carried it in the open, Father," he suggests, "we could keep an eye it. Better the mummified hand you can see than the one hidden in your pack, eh?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Maybe it's just me, but shouldn't ape-men be worshiping ape-gods instead of dragons?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul sighs. "I should think it's clear that those pots are some kind of trap, divine magic or not. Holy snakes probably jump out of them, or something." He shrugs. "But it's your funeral." Qadim-sul steps back to the entrance of the chamber, as far from the pots as possible, but holds his khopesh at the ready.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Here's an idea! There's three pots that aren't broken. Let's open them!" Qadim-sul's voice drips with sarcasm.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Your funeral," Qadim-sul mutters as he watches Lafiel disappear down the tunnel. He stays where he is, within sight of the rest of the group.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul makes hos way down the corridor as quietly as he can.
Stealth (1d20+1=15)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"I'll come too. I don't like sitting here in the dragon's mouth."

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Some exploration first, then. If they're no longer scrying on us, we should be able to remain out of sight until we found a safe way down and into the city." Qadim-sul frowns as he thinks of something else. "As long as we don't run into any ape-man patrols in the tunnels, of course. They may post guards at the approaches to their city."

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul stares for a few minutes, then finally finds his voice. "Wonderful. An entire city of ape-men for us to fight. Then again, that's the stuff legends are made of! Although I have to admit that our current perch seems like an ill omen..."

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"I'm not sensing any more magical scrying. Either the caves block are blocking it, or they've decided we're not worth the trouble."

By all means, let Lafiel go ahead. Qadim-sul is just bored; he doesn't actually want to go off by himself and scout! :)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul tries to see if he can detect any scrying. Arcana (1d20+10=27)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Death and destruction, no doubt!" Qadim-sul mutters. "Which is what we're here for, after all. I say enough of this sneaking around. If they're scrying on us, it's a lost cause anyways. Who's with me?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Let's do the chapel. There are 2 entrances, making it defensible and giving us a back door out.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"I'll watch after Rin, if he can wake me."

Drivish Ammasin wrote:
Drivish is at the "I could go one more fight" stage, which normally turns out poorly. If Lafiel, or anybody else, wants to take an extended rest I'm for it too.

Ditto for Qadim-sul. While he would never admit it, he's almost out of surges and would be happy to take an extended rest now too. :)

Rin Lyulfsson wrote:
"Mind you, if I start acting oddly, just do me the favour of concussing me and taking it away." He shrugs. "It might happen - after all, anything strong enough to take over Barshevy's will is hardly going to have a problem overcoming mine."

"Happy to oblige," Qadim-sul says with a grin. "Father, if you don't find anything on the altar, I suggest we continue our explorations." He gestures down the tunnel with his sword.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul finally joins the party in the room. "I'll take a look at the staff if I may, Father," he says. The genasi studies the staff, turning it over in his hands.
Arcana (1d20+10=16)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Once everyone is down, Qadim-sul will follow behind, looking out for snakes or other bitey-things.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul will change back to his Windsoul manifestation during the rest.

Qadim-sul claps Drivish on the shoulder. "What's the matter, old son, don't want to jump in there on your own again? I don't blame you - I believe I'll take up the rear. Perhaps Lafiel would like to go back down first? Or the priest, so he can heal whoever's next if more snakes come out."

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Come back up!" Qadim-sul calls. "There's no reason to die down there, Drivish. Lafiel can tell us if there's anything worth going back down there for."

Are the snakes within 3 squares of the top of the pit? If so, I can use Lightning Lure to attack them (my only ranged power).

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul will wait until his companions have dealt with as many snakes as possible before climbing down last.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Maybe they're just illusions, if the snake itself isn't real. But perhaps the priest should test that for us, just in case. And what of the staff Fargrim spoke of?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul hops impatiently from foot to foot. "I'm about to jump down there myself, just so that something will happen," he growls. He walks over to the edge of the hole and peers down, trying to resist the urge to shout down to Drivish.

Sorry for the long absence, people!

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Arcana (1d20+10=20)

"Curse or no, I find any living hands going through my pack, they're getting cut off. That goes for all of you."

"I don't know if that will help," Qadim-sul tells Drivish as he attacks the tree. "We lost the hand before we found the tree. Which means our priest got greedy before we came through the portal. Maybe the imp?"

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Hmmm, hypnotic snakes, now hypnotic coins. 'The ecstasy of gold...' Careful, Father, those coins might be cursed."

Qadim-sul turns away, focusing on manifesting his stormsoul.

So does this count as an extended rest for regaining healing surges and the like?

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Rest, spend a healing surge (up to 34 hp - when do we recover healing surges, btw?), and switch to Stormsoul.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

It's a mark, so I'd assume so, but the effect is a teleport and a free basic attack. I'm already next to it, so do I still get the basic attack? If so:
Basic Attack (1d20+7=18, Damage (1d8+2=6)
Followed by a Booming Blade (1d20+7=9), Damage (1d8+4=11)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul cries out as the snake bites him, lashing out with his khopesh amid a crash of thunder.
Booming Blade vs. AC (1d20+7=27), Max Damage 12
Finally! Crit!

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

As the snake digests more of Fargrim, Qadim-sul disappears, only to reappear a moment later behind the snake. He lashes out with his khopesh.
Teleport to R9; Basic attack (1d20+7=16), Damage (1d8+2=6)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul tries again to lasso the snake with a leash of lightning from his blade, cursing colorfully as he misses the mark again.
Minor: Mark with Aegis of Assault (will the automatic damage against Fargrim count as an attack for purposes of the mark?); Lightning Lure vs. Fort (1d20+5=6), Damage (1d6+4=5)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"This will at least keep it from running off with the dwarf in its gullet," Qadim-sul says, attempting to throw a lasso of lightning to pull the snake closer.
Lightning Lure vs. Fort (1d20+5=10), Damage (1d6+4=8 lightning)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul stares at the snake with his mouth open, fascinated, but wrenches his mind free. "Now it's starting to annoy me," he growls.

Save 1d20=16

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

OA (1d20+7=9), Damage (1d8+2=7)
And the snake takes 1d6+2 thunder damage from Booming Blade as it moves away from me.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Sorry!

Qadim-sul steps forward and strikes at the snake with a crash of thunder.
Move to N9; Booming Blade vs. AC (1d20+7=21), Damage (1d8+4=6)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Looks good to me, Qadim-sul mucking sadly along behind Fargrim.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Hmmmm," Qadim-sul muses, "I'm beginning to wonder if the coffer may have held something that would help us on this side of the portal. Wading boots, for example," he says, looking down at the muck on his boots with a grimace. "Well, they do say hindsight gives you perfect vision. Onward, indeed."

Sorry for the delay! All caught up now (in this game at least!)
Question: this is a swamp, but it's in a cavern too, right? How high do the stone columns go?

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

The last 2 arrows bring Qadim-sul down to 0 hp, plus the 3 temporary hp from Barshevy's last heal. I don't know how long those last, but I assume he'll fall unconscious at that point. So I guess Qadim-sul will take a second wind.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul moves after the closest skeleton, bringing down his khopesh on its bony body.
Assuming he hits: As his blade shatters the skeleton, a bolt of lightning leaps out to strike the next skeleton.

Move to I-16, attack s1 with Lightning Clash Attack vs. AC (1d20+6=18), Damage (1d8+4=6)
Secondary attack vs. s10 Attack vs. Ref (1d20+4=23), lighting damage (1d6+4=5)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

I have no idea how many hp I have now (11? I don't know if those rolls for the rats against me are hits or not), nor what round we're on! But it looks like it's been a couple, so here's some saves to end my ongoing damage:
1d20=3, 1d20=17

Qadim-sul strikes at the rats, his khopesh cutting into them with a boom of thunder. Booming Blade vs AC (1d20+6=19), Damage (1d8+4=5)
He steps back from the rats (Shift to H-15) and turns to face the skeleton. (Mark s1 with Aegis of Assault)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul heaves on the rope, trying to pull Fargrim out of the cube. Aid Another (Athletics) (1d20+7=13)

Next round (assuming Fargrim's out of the cube; otherwise, keep trying to get him out):
Qadim-sul drops his crossbow and whips out his khopesh, flicking out a lasso of lightning to snare the nearest skeleton.
Lightning lure against s1 (vs. Fort) (1d20+4=8), Damage (lightning) (1d6+4=5)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"By the storm clouds of Ashelon!" Qadim-sul exclaims as Fargrim falls into the gelatinous cube. He immediately jumps off the arch, floating to the ground next to the sinking dwarf. Fumbling for his rope, he extends his arm. "Fargrim, grab my hand!"

Move action: windwalker, fly to H-14. Minor action: retrieve rope.
I'd like to help Fargrim from the cube, if possible, spending an action point to take a standard action to aid another.

And since I'm down there, do I get hit by Barshevy's healing word too? Or does it just affect one person?

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

The falling globe crashes into Qadim-sul, knocking him down and off the edge. Acrobatics (1d20=7) Luckily, he manages to grab on to the side of the arch before he falls. Save (1d20=17) Qadim-sul watches in pity as Fargrim falls to the floor below.

Clinging to the arch, Qadim-sul hears Rin yell "Duck!" and so stays on the side until after his companions have fired their spells before climbing back up.
Delay until after all the spells go off, so I'll hopefully be out of range. What kind of an action is climbing back up? Can I still make an attack?

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Solid.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Qadim-sul drops into a bow with a flourish. "By all means, Master Dwarf. 'Tis your funeral," he adds with a grin.

Making room for Fargrim to go in front of me (I'm not planning on moving forward just yet.)

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

Invisible Castle is down so I rolled my own Nature check: 2+2=4. Nope!

Qadim-sul draws his hand crossbow and moves out slightly onto the arch, here he can hopefully cover Lafiel and anyone else descending into the room.
Assuming we're coming in from the north, Qadim-sul moves to G10.

Male Genasi Swordmage 2

"Welcome back," Qadim-sul tells Fargrim. "Now what are we standing around for? There's doors standing invitingly open. Last one in is ape-bait!" Without waiting for a response, Qadim-sul ducks inside.

(Assuming the pit doesn't completely block the door.)
