With Gerald's serious question Lasch says: "A dear friend of mine died under mysterious circumstances. Pirak appeared soon after to give the information this group has conveyed to you. I'm here because I want to know why such a promising intellectual had to pass away far too soon. I'm here because, as a general principle, elemental aspects of the earth don't just stride into my study. I'm here because, well Gerald, I need answers that aren't in a book. And trust me, I've read all of them." His voice trembles a little.

Lasch follows him. "I'd love to help you Ardil. Maybe our paths will cross. Now let me ask you a question, do you know any thing about "aspects? ? My friend Thomas, an academic at my library, recently and mysteriously died. After his death, one of these strange creatures spoke to Udaya and I. He looked like a man but he had... "rocky" features. He delivered a strange message about me needing to 'open the eyes of the sleeping children' and something about a creeping darkness. Then he disappeared."

*Sips and sighs* Well this is a good one Udaya. If we're going to get colloquial you might as well call me Lasch.

Hehe. You rolled a one. I think you should have fallen OFF the barstool After about five more minutes of study Lasch reenters the room. Alright Udaya, I'm satisfied. For now. Now I think I promised you a drink. *Offers you a hand up if you fell off your chair*

ack...I keep forgetting to change my icon. To himself: "Ah Udaya, it is good to see her again."
Once outside and settled for a moment. I cast message to say to Udaya: "Excuse me miss. I HEARD that."

Uneasy, Lasch gets up and quietly says "I'm going to get some fresh air. I am uneasy." Profile updated! Spoiler: Shifting under his cloak, Lasch walks just outside the door to the tavern, palming his dagger as he always does at the corner. The staff rests in his left hand, just inside the door frame. Anyone walking out from that direction will give him a split second warning longer than he might normally have from behind. He can't remember if the martial combat books he read told him to face the door or the corner and decides that his current set up is fine. Death always sets Lasch into an unusual mood and he would prefer Udaya would continue to see him as her teacher, not a rougher man. Old habits die hard. "What a strange party I've set out with, such an admixture of eclectic taste and active ingredients. " With that, Lasch sets out studying his immediate surroundings, observing dress, custom, language, and construction. Without moving from his spot, Lasch begins a sociological survey of the urban architecture, a useful exercise in familiarizing himself with the city landscape. The whole of this exercise takes no longer than 15 seconds. The survey should be completed in a matter of minutes. sorry I haven't contributed as much. I've been terribly busy these last few weeks. Hopefully this helps to make up for it. If you want an idea of how I imagine Lasch's brain works, think of Robert Downy Jr.'s interpretation of Sherlock Holmes, deductive, bookish, but utterly precise in combat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGCMfprPJoA See minute 1:37

Lasch's Thoughts: A Dragon! Ancient Dwarven Halls! And what's this of an ancient book of Wyrms? Thomas was everywhere. I hope it will not be difficult to find what afflicted him. Disease? Compulsion of the mind? Depression? Something supernatural? More study is required I see.
I don't have knowledge of where Thomas kept this Book of Wyrms do I? Do I know where he kept his books? Awfully inconvenient if it's back at the library! >.>

DM Azoun wrote: Lasch I need to know if you are going to put anytime into interpreting the book/Journal and when. I don't want to assume anything as I feel if I develop that habit I may end up doing things that the player doesn't agree with it. And that's just bad DMing, unless i'm asked to decide particular actions for the PC. :) DM I definitely would have spent time on the ship poring over that book. Expect my character to do ALOT of writing, scribing, scribbling, tracing, copying, translating, editing, and obfuscating.

The sea is calming to the Professor, his mind given time to turn over the recent death of his friend. He spends most of his time writing and keeping track of the behaviors of the other members of the party. When Udaya leaves, he takes note of the tavern she will be at and begins to gather his things. "Udaya, a drink does sound delightful. But please, keep your wits about you, something is still amiss."

Lasch tidies up his desk and begins to write out various notes to his colleagues and understudies. He arranges to have his students transfered to another professor and leaves research instructions to his assistants. He also steals various artifacts and priceless books in order to buy a tome of infinite knowledge, granting him a +5 to his int score. errr....just kidding on the theivery. Although I am curious if the university offers any advice or assistance when I tell them about my journey.

Pirak, this is mysterious news indeed. Is there a way we can keep you here a bit a longer? Can we tend to your pain? There must be a healer or philosopher we can summon to tend to you for a bit. This is a great institution of knowledge and I know I speak for the HEadmaster when I say our services are yours for the night if you wish.

Hahaha oops. I thought you were only letting me roll one or the other. So I flipped a coin. 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (16) + 29 = 45 Linguistics. Using my 20 here. Add an additional +1 if this is a check similar enough to descyphering a scroll or identifying a magic item (apg 81 "Magic Lore") 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 History. EDIT: Ohhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaa. Rolling a 45 as 2nd level character. *FLEX MUSCLES* Make it a 46 make it a 46 PLEASSSSE. haha.

Hello all. I haven't disappeared. I am in fact DM'ing. I was surprised that took off. I also have a variety of examinations coming up that are taking more of my time than I anticipated. I'm going to try and get caught up in this thread on my lunch break today. That will be a nice break :). But things are going to get a little crazy for me the next month or so. Ill be here though. *Lasch shuffles into the room, curiously holding his cane a little tighter than usual. A long traveling cloak muffles the sound of donned light armor. His steps are sure, but a burden seems to hang about him.* "Udaya, it is a pleasure again. Mostly." *A stern look comes over his face, quickly replaced by the smile of a teacher glad to see his pupil return*. "Herik, he was certainly malnourished. Something consumed him these last few weeks, he would spend days at a time in his study, poring over ancient texts even I did not recognize." I believe I already made the knowledge check to know that I know nothing, correct? If not I'll do it again.

After a brief moment of thought, Lasch decides to notify the Library's Headmaster. On his way to his office, a long life of caution tells him to bring his special cane with him. Too soon Thomas, what drove you to this?
