Background The Mandalorian Civil War
In 60 BBY a schism occurred in their ranks. A violent splinter group, known as the Mandalorian Death Watch, revolted against the leadership of Jaster Mereel, who led the True Mandalorian loyalist faction, along with his Brother's adopted son, Rotok Scarr, due to Mereel's proposed Supercommando Codex reforms. Eventually the civil war between these groups spilled over to the pastoral world of Concord Dawn. Here the Death Watch leader Vizsla attempted to murder Jaster. However, thanks to the assistance of a young orphan named Jango Fett, Jaster and his followers escaped the trap. Eventually, Vizsla caught up to Jaster and the Mandalorians on a distant world and, due to the treachery of fellow Mandalorian Montross, Jaster Mereel was killed in battle. Jaster's protégé, Jango, took over the reins of leadership, despite Montross's disparaging comment that it would mean a "child leading them." Jango's tenure as Mandalorian leader ended at the Battle of Galidraan, where a Jedi task force under the leadership of Master Dooku led to the death of every remaining Mandalorian, except for Jango. Dooku remembered Jango and later employed Jango to be the Prime Clone after Dooku left the Jedi Order. After this disaster, the Mandalorians were effectively ended as a fighting force in the galaxy. Individuals survived on both Mandalore and in other isolated pockets of known space, but they played little influence on galactic affairs until the Clone Wars, when Jango Fett became the template for a Grand Army of the Republic on Kamino. However, sometime before 32 BBY and while Palpatine was still a mere senator, the corrupt Governor of Mandalore, Vrox, started to send out members of the Mandalorian Armed Forces on sanctioned raids against worlds in nearby systems in order to plunder them and steal their riches. In addition to this, Vrox began producing outlawed battle droids, known as JU-9 Juggernaut War Droids. The Republic soon sent a Republican Army task force along with several Jedi, including Voli Quana, to bring an end to the raids and stop the production of the droids. The ensuing battle was bloody, and once again ended in the near annihilation of the Mandalorian forces, as well as the capture of Vrox. With Jango Fett being the clone donor, many elements of the Mando'ade culture made it into the Grand Army of the Republic ranks. This was boosted by the Cuy'val Dar, and Mandalorian training sergeants like Kal Skirata and Walon Vau. Kal Skirata trained the Null ARCs, and they viewed him as a father and them his sons. Kal taught the Mandalorian culture and language to the Null ARCs, as well as the Clone commandos. Eventually, the language and culture began to spread through the ranks of clones, and warrior chants like Vode An and Rage of the Shadow Warriors( Dha Werda Verda ) became commonly sung as a morale booster, although some clones did not appear to display appreciation of their Mandalorian heritage. Throughout the war, the clones would be faced with many grueling situations, and often took heavy casualties, despite their Mandalorian training. However, following the rise of the Galactic Empire, the transition of clone troopers into Imperial stormtroopers, the ranks of the troopers were joined with other clones and regular recruits. It is unlikely that the Empire continued to recruit former Mandalorians and Death Watch soldiers to train the clones of any template, thus future Fett clones grew up without their template's Mandalorian heritage and the once pure Jango Fett clone army lost its sense of being Mandalorian. However, many retired clone commandos and troopers from the Clone Wars married and moved to one of the neighboring planets of Mandalore. Eventually, this planet was viewed as one of the homeworlds of the Mandalorians and was often used for training. Personnal Background Phenn Ordo was one of the soldiers assisting training the clones of the Grand Army of the Republic on Kamino. Phenn enjoyed the task and devoted a great deal of time to trying to personalise the clones he trained with, to some success, (or so he believed). As was common at the time, the Mandalorians that were involved in the training often ended up acting in a supporting role in the field, often assisting the jedi generals in charge of the clones. It was whilst doing this task that Phenn was sent to Felucia. During the Clone Wars, Felucia became the headquarters of the Commerce Guild which supported the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Felucia would become a valuable member world and was as a result named by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine as part of a "Triad of Evil," alongside Mygeeto and Saleucami. The planet was attacked during the Outer Rim Sieges. After the first attack, 19 BBY, Jedi's Barriss Offee and Zonder were imprisoned on the planet. Aayla Secura took the Destroyer 'Intrepid' to Felucia along with Phenn to capture Shu Mai(one of the Seperatist leaders) and rescue Barriss and Zonder. With the help of Padawan Ekria, Phenn and the Clones, Aayla rescued Barriss and Zonder from the Nigkoe Detention Facility, resulting in a full-fledged ground battle. The Republic forces then assaulted Shu Mai's personal compound, not realizing Mai had already evacuated and was on Utapau. The Jedi infiltrated the compound, found Mai long gone, but managed to shut down the droid army remotely, letting Phenn's clone troops into the compound, at the same time the Invisible Hand was crashing onto Coruscant. Unfortunately, the compound was booby-trapped, and released toxins, killing many clones. The Jedi barely escaped before the entire compound exploded, but many clones did not. The trap also triggered a "poisoned well" policy to keep the planet from being of worth to the Republic, unleashing a highly poisonous biological agent into the water supply of Felucia's natural planet-wide aquatic distribution system, capable of infecting the entire planet in four days. Shu Mai had left behind forces ordered to fortify the planet's major water treatment facilities. They knew the only way to prevent the deaths of millions was to take over the facilities and contain the toxin. The Jedi Council sent Stass Allie with clone reinforcements to Felucia. Stass dropped off the clone reinforcements and Padawan Drake Lo'gaan on Felucia and then headed to Saleucami. The Republic forces split into three forces, each headed toward a different facility: Barriss, Lieutenant Inc, and Lieutenant Barr to Har Gau; Ekria, Zonder, Drake, and Lieutenant Galle to Jiaozi; and Aayla, Phenn and Commander Bly to Niango. Barriss's forces defeated a Commerce Guild patrol, at the cost of Lieutenant Inc's life. Barriss ordered Lieutenant Barr's troops to abandon her and go get Lieutenant Galle for help. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Galle used a staged retreat to distract the Commerce Guild forces from the facility at Jiaozi, which the Padawans were able to infiltrate. The Padawans completed their mission at Jiaozi by shutting down the outgoing pipes before the arrival of the toxin, but were unable to access the controls of the Niango and Har Gau. Ekria was puzzled when she detected a Confederacy-encrypted holo from Coruscant being received by Bly, not understanding that it was Darth Sidious relaying Order 66. Ekria was able to tap into the clone-cam feeds of Bly's troops and behold Aayla, who was spooked by the complete silence of the wildlife as she and Phen headed towards Niango. As Aayla was distracted by a native bird taking to the air, she was gunned down from behind by Bly and the other clones. All Phenn could do was look on in horror from his vantage point onboard the AT-OT. Not being a clone, he had not received Order 66. Simultaneously, Barriss was fighting alone, surrounded by droids. To her relief, she saw Lieutenant Galle's men seemingly rush to her rescue, but instead they shot her down. The Padawans were horrified by Aayla's murder, but able to decrypt the message and hear Order 66. They then heard a new message on Republic channels from Coruscant: "Calling all Jedi. This is Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. The war is over. I repeat, the war is over. All Jedi are ordered to return to the Jedi Temple immediately. You will receive further instructions when you arrive." The Padawans then checked Galle's clone-cam, and saw that Galle's troops were about to burst into the Jiaozi facility to kill the Padawans. The Padawans barely escaped, and would later head to Coruscant. In the chaos that ensued Phenn made a hasty exit in a stolen drop ship, not knowing at first what to do, where to go or who to trust. In the end Phenn drifted back into the core worlds and found love with
Since this incident, several months ago Phenn has been trying to locate any information about this dark inquisitor. In the course of this search he has hooked up with anothe Mandalorian and the two of them have watched out for each other as best they can. And so he now finds himself on board a transport heading for another possible lead, this time on a station called Sel Zonn. Also on board is a Quarran who Phenn has come to look on in the last day as a possible kindred soul whose path may itertwine with the one he now finds himself on. |
