Background:
Petr grew up in a simple peasant's cottage next to a swamp, but from birth he stood out from his peers because of his lame leg and his keen interest in strange and occult matters. He was teased cruelly by his peers and he always held himself aloof from them, more interested in obscure magic and monsters. Fortunately, Professor Lorrimor passed by his village while searching for artifacts from the dark reign of the Whispering Tyrant and took an interest in the lad. He helped him get enrolled in the village school, and the two kept up a scholarly correspondance for many years.
The local peasants now fear Petr. They suspect him of trafficking with demons and call him the "Devil Rider of the Black Bog" because of the preternaturally intelligent horse he is always seen riding.
