SPECIAL ABILITIES

Aura of Good (Ex) You project a faint good aura.

Bonus Feat Humans select one extra feat at 1st level.

Child of the Crusades Your parents were members of the crusade, as were their parents before them. (If you are an elf, gnome, or other long-lived race, these could be brothers or cousins instead, since it’s possible that the Worldwound simply didn’t exist at a time before you were born.) The righteousness of the crusades sometimes feels as if it runs in your very blood, and it bolsters you against demonic influence. Your parents may be alive still, or they may have perished on a mission—that choice is up to you. You grew up knowing them, though, and their zeal and devotion to the crusade is the primary reason you feel the same way. They’ve told you of other family members who have also been involved in the crusade, and it’s not uncommon for you to meet a distant cousin or long-lost aunt, uncle, or other family member while traveling among the border towns of Mendev. This strong family tie bolsters your mind and sense of belonging to the crusade. Once per day when you fail a saving throw against an effect created by a demon that would possess or incapacitate you mentally, you may immediately reroll that saving throw as a free action. You must take the second result, even if it is worse. Associated Mythic Path: Marshal

Code of Conduct Never suffer an evil outsider to live if it is in your power to destroy it. Banish fiends you cannot kill. Purge the evil from those possessed by fiends.

Detect Evil (Sp) At will, you can use Detect Evil, as the Spell. You can, as a move action, concentrate on a single individual or item within 60 feet and determine if it is evil, learning the strength of its aura as if having studied it for 3 rounds. While focusing on one individual or object, you do not detect evil in any other object or individual within range.

Empyreal Cultist Your faith in the empyreal lords-a host of good demigods-and your fascination with the legendary Angel of the Arvensoar have you constantly on the hopeful lookout for celestial messengers. Choose an empyreal lord as your patron deity. You gain Celestial as a bonus language and a +1 trait bonus on Diplomacy checks when dealing with good-aligned humanoids.

Skilled Humans gain an additional skill rank at first level and one additional rank whenever they gain a level.

Smite Evil (Su) You can call out to the powers of good to aid you in your struggle against evil 1 times per day. As a swift action, you choose one target within sight to smite. If this target is evil, you add +2 to your attack rolls and +1 to all damage rolls made against the target of your smite. If the target of Smite Evil is an outsider with the evil subtype, an evil-aligned dragon, or an undead creature, the bonus to damage on the first successful attack increases to +2. Regardless of the target, Smite Evil attacks automatically bypass any DR the creature might possess. In addition, while smite evil is in effect, you gain a +2 deflection bonus to your AC against attacks made by the target of the smite. If you target a creature that is not evil, the smite is wasted with no effect. The Smite Evil effect remains until the target of the smite is dead or the next time you rest and regain your uses of this ability.

Background:

The son of a long line of Varisian crusaders, Peter Bertram had fought against the forces of the Worldwound for a long time. In his youth, he had earned the title 'the Two-Hand Striker' for his usage of a sword and mace in battle, cutting his way through his enemies. In time, Peter became disillusioned, especially after the burnings. He wondered if there was more to his life than fighting. Then, he encountered a half-elf druid named Elina, and after falling in love with one another, they married and started a family, bringing into the world two sons and a daughter. After the birth of his daughter, Peter retired from the Crusades.

Now in his early forties, Peter begins to long for his days as a crusader while also worrying about the safety of his family. Concerned, he sent them to be with his relatives in Magnimar, while he, his nephew, and grandfather stayed behind. He has always trusted his instincts, and now they're telling him something big is coming...

Personality:

Peter Bertram is a likable person who is willing to sacrifice life and limb to protect the innocent, as well as his friends and loved ones. Unlike other crusaders, he doesn't judge others based on who they are, but on their deeds and actions. He has always opposed the witch hunts that cost the lives of innocent bystanders (the Inquisition is one of the reasons why he retired). He is a friendly man, but he occasionally recalls events from his youth, and he tends to act in a fatherly manner to younger crusaders, whether they like it or not. He is a loyal servant of the empyreal lord Ragathiel. Despite his years of fighting against demons, bandits, and cultists, he has never lost his cheery personality, nor his wit.

Description:

Peter has dusty colored skin and platinum blond hair that is spiky and is starting to gray around the edges. He has small beard, long sideburns, and a twirly mustache. While an imposing figure because of his tall height, he puts others at ease with a smile and cheery personality. He is ambidextrous, and tends to switch his weapons from time to time to confuse his foes as well as to mess with his friends. He does bear a few scars from his battles against the forces of the Worldwound.
