Mixed blooded as he was, her son would never be able to claim his rightful place as heir. She did not regret her act of passion, only the burden it now placed upon her child. He was growing so much slower than his brothers before him...
It took four years of deliberating to make her choice. Noble though he was, her child would be denied his title amongst his own people, but perhaps with the kin of his father he could climb to be something more. And so it was in the dead of night she left her half-human toddler and a hefty sum of gold at the royal outpost. She would only say that he was to be called Per'Edhel, and the coin she offered ensured no other questions were asked.
Per'Edhel was taken to kindly by the Lions, the king's royal mounted soldiers. He spent much of his youth as a stablehand, loved by all by owned by none. He was quiet but kindhearted, wondering of his heritage but never blaming his elven mother or human caretakers for his plight. He was determined to prove his own worth.
The Wheel turned, and the knights started giving Per'Edhel more responsibilities. Many of the folk called him Percy, which he took as a token of affection. In addition to taking care of the mounts, Percy was also given the privilege of upkeeping some of the elite knights prestige weapons, glistening firearms of silver and gilded metal. Per'Edhel found these machine fascinating, and much of his time was divided between riding or training the steeds, and practicing with the firearms. Bullets from haystacks could be retrieved, but blackpowder was costly, so Percy took to exchanging extra chores for the knights for allowances of any black powder they could spare him.
Per'Edhel's twenty-fifth year was the first turning point of his life. The King himself came to ride with the company for an entire Turn. The young half-elf was impressed with how the King was approachable and in kind spirits to all of his men. Two days before the King was scheduled to return to his castle, he surprised Per'Edhel even further by greeting him in the stable. "Wash yourself and make haste to the feast hall." Was all the sovereign told him. Bumbling his respective response, Percy quickly changed into his best attire and groomed himself. Upon entering the hall, there stood the king with the entire company of Lions standing in lines. "Per'Edhel Half-Elven, you have proven yourself time and again in service to this crown. The Order of Lions have spoken for you. I ask that you swear yourself to me, and join them." After taking the Oath, Per'Edhal was gifted with a musket of his own, and the service of his favorite steed, Arinen.
In the years that followed, Per'Edhal climbed the ranks of the Order, carrying out any missive his King or superiors asked of him. Years chased his comrades, but time seemed unable to touch Per'Edhal's features. After one such encounter, a boy was brought before Per'Edhal. A boy, who had taken his father's knightly firearm, and ended his life with it. Per'Edhal, as the late father's superior officer, felt inclined to give the boy a second chance. He took the human lad Richard Hawkins under his wing and into the Order of Lions. His skill with a pistol was remarkable, and over the next decade the child grew into a man worthy of keeping with the Company...
Appearance:
Per'Edhel stands tall at 5'2", almost a full head above most of the human company he keeps. His armor gleams, emblazoned with the symbol of the Order of the Lion, and he wears it proudly. His helm held under his arm, Percy's features are sharp and angular, but with a subdued softness. His fair complexion is contrasted by straight black hair tucked behind pointed ears and falling to the small of his back. Verdant eyes gaze over the celebrations, admiring the scenery but also with a practiced knack for seeing hidden dangers. A rapier hangs at his waist. He leads a large white mare outfitted in a light skirt which also bears regalia of The Order. Carefully strapped to the saddle is an exquisite musket in pristine condition.
