Turning to the dwarf, the warrior grins. "I am not surprised you have not heard of the Red Band. They were very new..green really and lead by a poor excuse of a captain. Sometimes you have to take what life gives you and make the best of it. The company was originally contracted to act as scouts, but the Captain thought there might be more money and glory in confronting the creature we were hired to track...a Green Dragon. Needless to say, only a few of us escaped with our lives, if not a number of scars!" At this point, he pulls down the collar of his gambeson to show a barely healed scar some 6 inches long and nearly as wide as a dagger's blade. "Almost got with its filthy teeth. This was just a graze..most were not so lucky. After that, I worked on my own as a bodyguard and muscle for hire until I got that letter that led me here." He looks around and realized he has talked all the way to the docks. "Ummm...sorry. Guess I have not had someone to talk to in a while."
Standing the warrior shakes out the strange straw cape that seems to cover the half-orc from head to toe. A satchel rides at the small of his back and he holds a wicked looking polearm that looks more blade than pole. A round metal helmet with a very wide brim hangs by its straps from the fighter's thick neck, partially covered by the hood of the cape as it dangles over his broad shoulders. "I am ready now. The sooner on the road the near our objective."
Pelias looks the man up and down and looks like he is ready to say no, but when he shows the group the horrendous wound on his torso, the half-orc changes his mind. "Aye, I'll join your group. We cannot have these beasts destroying our homes and families!" To punctuate his agreement to join, he slams the butt of his polearm into the wooden floor making a loud, hollow boom!
SO which faction would orcs and their kin be most associated with?? In my mind, the orcs make most of their money by hiring out as mercenary companies to some of the other factions...at least those still not savage barbarians living a hunter/gatherer life on the edges of civilization. Not too sure if you want us to 'fill in the blanks' for this sort of stuff, or if you already have it worked out.
Pelias looks over at the elf and dwarf sitting with him. The letter was a bit vague, but then who was he to turn down a possible payday. He looks over at the other two people sitting with him. The elf looks to be some sort of entertainer while the other....is a dwarf. "I am Pelias, recently of the Red Band mercenary company. I take it you also received a letter asking you to meet here?" He quietly waits to see which of the two answers first.
Good...would hate to start off this game with the dwarf and the 1/2 orc at each other's throats. I style my orc's after the race as it is presented in the books by Morgan Howell (The Queen of the Orcs Series). He took their society and modelled it after the Iroquois people of central New York. A matriarchal society, property and good are held by the women of the clan who also form a council to decide which males would act as leaders to the clans. |
