BACKGROUND
Pace Gambol is the bastard son of a minor noble woman living in Korvosa. Unlike many bastards he had a fairly happy childhood, raised by an attentive and compassionate wet nurse. As he grew up though, he was increasingly bullied and mocked by his younger, legitimate siblings and other noble children. Pace would usually ignore or endure the slights and subtle jabs from the other children because he didn't like to fight and couldn't think of witty responses. Inevitably, some blown up noble's son would swing in derision at Pace, and the young man would end up laying in the dirt, bleeding. His mother wearied of placating the families of the boys Pace had beaten, and she feared that he was getting old enough to be challenged to a duel by one of the young men. She decided that she could get Pace away from the embarrassed young nobles and build on his natural abilities by sending him to a local fighting academy.
Eventually, Pace was noticed by a middling merchant named Kalis Cheatham who was looking for a personal body guard for his young daughter, Celia. Pace spent six months following the girl around as she went from lesson to lesson and shopped in local markets. One day Pace was with Celia as she was looking at some jewelry. He was momentarily distracted flirting with another shopper, and when he turned back to look for Celia, she was gone. Celia's father was furious and the Korvosan Guard was useless. Pace lost his job, but has become obsessed with finding young Celia and making her abductor pay.
APPEARANCE
A large bulky man with spiky brown hair and green eyes. His eyes sparkle and it is clear that laugh lines are beginning to form on his tanned young face. Jovial and friendly most of the time, his expression darkens if Celia is mentioned.
He is in a well maintained breastplate worn over well-fitted clothing of quality materials. There is a crossbow slung over one shoulder and a shield over the other. At his side is a large flail, almost large enough to be wielded two-handed, the chain wrapped in a circle.
