About Oster Devarro
Oster Devarro was once a police detective, and a good one. From the young age when he'd discovered the extent of his extroardinary mental talents, he'd been able to translate those abilities into useful skills. To his colleagues on the force, he was the one you most wanted in the interrogation room or canvassing a neighborhood for information. His knack for gathering information spoke for itself. And while it bothered him that the police existed as little more than puppets for the major corporations, he comforted himself that he was able to use his position to make a difference for everyone, regardless of their circumstances. Besides, that's just how things were, and who was he to change that?
Even while the rest of the world was deteriorating around him, Oster still considered himself a lucky man. While others struggled to get by, he managed to keep a steady job, a clean place to live, and the love of his beautiful wife, Izzy. Unfortunately for Oster, much like the fate of the world around him, these things were not to last forever. His life evaporated around him the instant he made one single, terrible mistake.
While Oster was participating in an otherwise routine drug sting, one of the suspects, a teenager, made a break for it. Oster shouted a warning, but the kid was quick. With only seconds to make a snap judgement, he reached out with his mind to overwhelm the perp into submission. In the perp's inebriated state his mind couldn't put up much resistance and he collapsed, becoming comatose. It was thereafter soon discovered that the kid in question was the youngest son of one of the major corporate bosses. With access to the best medical treatment that money can buy, the kid was soon just fine, but Oster was finished. Within days he and Izzy were both jobless, homeless, blackballed from everywhere.
Then Izzy got sick, and the Medicos refused to help. With options quickly running out, Oster decided to turn to the only place that's always looking to accept new blood: the Crawl. He'd never really watched it before, the graphic horror of the thing always turned Izzy's stomach, but Oster is smart, quick, and motivated. If anybody can make it through that gauntlet and claim the fame and riches, he's certain that it's him. And surely once he does the celebrity status could help him to persuade a Medico to help with Izzy's condition. He's sunk everything he's got left into this one last chance, and failure just isn't an option.
