About Osric Movaliss

Osric's origins belie a tale of honor, pride, shame, and redemption. Born to a high-ranking Samurai, Osric was destined to take his place in his father's Samurai clan. Even his mother was an adept at wielding the Katana, and upon her death while he was just a boy, willed her sword to him. Osric's father taught him swordsmanship from an early age, in hopes that one day he would succeed him in the clan.

Osric showed great promise; his skills were unmatched for one his age. But, he was not humble about his skills. He quickly became prideful, feeling entitled to that which so many others had to earn. He began to underestimate his opponents, and overestimate his ability...

When he was a teenager, Osric challenged the son of the clan elder. The clan's duels were to submission, not death. Winners were determined based on skill and tactics, not by damage dealt. During this particular duel, Osric's opponent outwitted him at every turn, using his own pride as a tool against him. More and more Osric became furious, as the Elder's son countered his every strike. Soon, style and finesse no longer mattered, his pride had gotten the best of him. He attacked his opponent in a bloodthirsty rage, making lethal strikes against the other boy. The Elder's son was not prepared for this kind of assault, and quickly succumb to Osric's powerful attacks. Even as the boy surrendered, Osric seized the opportunity and made a killing blow against the boy. He had slain the Elder's son.

This transgression brought shame upon Osric and his father. They were banished from the clan permanently; his father especially so because of the lack of discipline his son had shown. The clan held his father responsible for his behavior. From that day forward, Osric was forbidden to be taught any further in the ways of the Samurai. His father went to live in seclusion. Osric, unable to bare the shame of his father, struck out on his own to try and find his own path in life. He wanted to accomplish something to make his father proud of him again.

Years went by. Osric had traveled much of the land, selling his skills as a mercenary, and freelance soldier. He spent much of his time practicing various combat styles, and learning to wield larger off-hand weapons for improvisation. Without his father or his clan to guide his training, he drew upon many outside influences to further his swordsmanship. Over time, very few remnants of the true Samurai art remained as he formed his own style, wielding two Katana swords of equal size, as opposed to the Katana and Wazakashi of the traditional Daisho. He learned to adapt quickly from two blades when fighting many opponents, to a single katana against single opponents, combining speed, finesse, and power, in a dazzling display of flashing steel. In his newfound art, he found a focus and discipline that he was unable to attain in the Samurai clan.

Unexpectedly, a messenger found him in his travels. The messenger was from his former clan, bringing news of a grievous attack by a rival clan, and seeking aid. He discovered that his father had rejoined the clan some time ago, and was helping in this fight. Osric felt that if he could help the clan alongside his father, and show him what he has learned, that maybe this would redeem him for his past sins. Osric immediately rode off to meet the clan.

As he arrived at their village, he found much of it destroyed by fire, and many of the clan had been slain. Along with a group of scouts and archers, Osric was able to attack the rival clan from behind, as he made his way to the temple where the survivors were holding up. The rival clan had not expected such an attack, and were quickly subdued. As Osric made his way into the temple, he found his father, dead from a battle against the rival clan. Osric didn't get the chance to make up for his shame, and never won his father's forgiveness. His fellow clan members insisted that he was proud to hear of his return, but words of forgiveness were never spoken. The clan gave Osric his father's sword, as an eternal reminder of both his father, and the importance of discipline.

Having aided in saving his former clan, Osric was forgiven for his past crimes, at least in their eyes. He has since sworn an oath to the clan, to always carry a calm mind and grace into battle, and to never let his temper get the best of him. For his oath and assistance, he is granted the titled of Kensai. He has been given a mission to search the depths of the World's Largest Dungeon, and claim victory in the name of the clan.
