◆ Crane Style (Stance) Requirements You are unarmored. Your arms flutter like a crane's wings. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to AC, but the only Strikes you can make are crane wing attacks. These deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage; are in the brawling group; and have the agile, finesse, nonlethal, and unarmed traits. While in Crane Stance, reduce the DC for High Jump and Long Jump by 5, and when you Leap, you can move an additional 5 feet horizontally or 2 feet vertically.
◆ Battle Medicine (General, Healing, Manipulate, Skill) Prerequisites trained in Medicine Requirements You're holding or wearing a healer's toolkit. You can patch up wounds, even in combat. Attempt a Medicine check with the same DC as for Treat Wounds and restore the corresponding amount of HP; this doesn't remove the wounded condition. As with Treat Wounds, you can attempt checks against higher DCs if you have the minimum proficiency rank. The target is then immune to your Battle Medicine for 1 day. This does not make them immune to, or otherwise count as, Treat Wounds.
◆ Flurry of Blows (Flourish, Monk) Make two unarmed Strikes. If both hit the same creature, combine their damage for the purpose of resistances and weaknesses. Apply your multiple attack penalty to the Strikes normally. As a flourish ability, you can use Flurry of Blows only once per turn.
Dragonblood You’re descended in some way from a dragon. Your physical features might show this outwardly, with a pair of draconic horns, patches of scaly skin, or even a tail, or you might develop an internal reserve of draconic power. You gain the dragonblood trait, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. Add Draconic to your ancestry’s list of additional languages (allowing you to choose it as a language if your Intelligence modifier is positive). When you roll a success on a saving throw against a fear effect, you get a critical success instead. You can choose from dragonblood feats and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat.
Scaly Hide You were born with a layer of scales across your entire body that resemble those of your draconic progenitor. When you’re unarmored, the scales give you a +1 item bonus to AC with a Dexterity cap of +3. The item bonus to AC increases to +2 at 5th level. The item bonus to AC from these scales is cumulative with armor potency runes on your explorer's clothing, the mystic armor spell, or bands of force.
Dragonblood Draconic Exemplar (Sky) Some abilities reference your draconic exemplar, which is a specific type of dragon from which you draw your draconic powers—typically the type of dragon whose blood runs in your veins.
Powerful Fist Your fists are deadly weapons. The damage die for your fist increases to 1d6 instead of 1d4. You don’t take the normal –2 circumstance penalty when making a lethal attack with your fist or any other unarmed attacks.
Background:
The pains of sorrow prepare you for the gift of joy – Excerpt from Unbinding the Fetters, Irorian Holy Text.
Oshii stood atop a lone rock, jutting from the cliffs above the Varisian Gulf. Her eyes are shut and her breathing even as she maintained the balance of her stance. Oshii is as still as the stone beneath her, trying to center her ki, while the seas crashed below her and her bald head glistened in the warm morning sun. In her mind she repeated the precept she is meditating on today, The pains of sorrow prepare you for the gift of joy, the pains of sorrow prepare you for the gift of joy. Over and over again, but her thoughts keep intruding, memories of the past bubbling up to the surface.
Perhaps it is the aphorism Oshii repeated that caused her to consider things she had not thought upon in a long time. Her thoughts returned to her earliest memories. Memories of pain and sorrow, it seemed that heartbreak hounded her as a child. Oshii grew up an only child, never knowing who her father was. However, as an only child, she was doted upon by her mother and they shared a special bond. Unfortunately, tragedy entered Oshii’s life, she lost her mother to the depredations of the madman known as the Chopper.
After the loss of her only family, Oshii was taken in by Sabyl Sorn, an Irorian monk and caretaker of the House of Blue Stones in Sandpoint. No one can say why Sabyl chose to foster Oshii out of all the orphans left in the wake of the tragedies that befell Sandpoint, and the woman chose not to disclose her reasons but Oshii always guessed that it was because of her dragon blood. Under these circumstances Oshii began her journey towards perfection by training under the monk.
Sabyl Sorn proved a hard and demanding taskmaster with little tolerance for excuses. It seemed that her solution to all of Oshii’s problems was exhaustion. In the beginning Oshii’s days were spent sparing, practicing forms, and contorting her body into painful stances for hours on end. However, Oshii eventually progressed and her training became more balanced. She began to spend as much time in in meditation as well as learning how to heal and strengthen the body. The House of Blue Stones became a sanctuary for her. When she wasn’t training her physical body or honing her ki she could usually be found squirreled away in the library with her nose in a book or meditating on cliffs above junkers edge.
A bead of sweat ran down Oshii’s back jarring her thoughts back to the present. She tries again to focus on today’s precept but can find no peace as her thoughts turn to more recent events. She is excited about the upcoming Swallowtale Festival and the festivities will be a welcome respite from her unrelenting training. But the upcoming festival also was a marker of change for Oshii as she remembered her masters actions from this morning, cutting off Oshii’s braid of hair and pronouncing Oshii’s training complete.
Again, Oshii is startled from her reverie when she almost lost her balance to an errant gust of wind. With a sigh she gave up on her meditation and jumped down from her perch. She began practicing her forms, throwing punch after punch moving like the wind. After several minutes she stopped and resolutely headed back to Sandpoint to embrace her future.
Appearance:
Oshii’s tian heritage is readily apparent in her warm golden skin, as well as by her dark almond shaped eyes. The exotic woman’s hair is close cropped leaving a light trail of stubble across her almost perfectly round head which frames features that, while proportionate and pleasing, appears to be carved from ice, never betraying what emotions lay beneath the surface. Shiny blue-grey scales cover her body from her neck to her calves and forearms, although these are concealed under her cloths the discerning eye might notice them.
Oshii is short, barely reaching 5 feet tall, with the athletic build of a dancer. The lithe woman flows rather than moves, each movement precise, with an effortless grace. She has a musical singsong voice and usually wears loose comfortable clothing. In the Irorian tradition she wears a braid of dark hair tied around her neck, like a necklace and wooden prayer beads around her left wrist.
Personality:
Oshii is a serious and ardent worshiper of Irori, The Master of Maters. As such she tries to exercise temperance and patience on her journey towards self-perfection. Despite this Oshii can be playful and possesses a wry sense of humor.
The woman is a lover of debate, learning, puzzles, and physical challenges, embracing these as experiences on her path of enlightenment. Additionally, Oshii is polite, soft spoken, and well-mannered but isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Her singsong voice often gives advice in riddles, aphorisms, and metaphors with a knowing grin.
