Are there any rules for creatures of various sizes to serve as crew of a ship? I've been trying to find an answer for a little while now, as I know there are rules for non medium creatures to operate standard siege equipment (at penalty), and there are plenty of small humanoid creatures scattered through the shackles who engage in piracy (halflings, goblins, gnomes too I think).

Is there an official answer to this?

Edit: Im also curios if there are any other restrictions on crew. Could a lich captain a ship with a crew of mindless skeletons?

Im planning out a dungeon crawl for a new low level campaign, and thought it would be fun to have a petrified balor on the first level, just to get a "OH, ITS NOT A STATUE" moment out of it. HOWEVER, when I was looking through the balor entry and the petrified condition, I noticed that petrified states the following:

"You have been turned to stone. You can’t act, nor can you sense anything. You become an object with a Bulk double your normal Bulk (typically 12 for a petrified Medium creature or 6 for a petrified Small creature), AC 9, Hardness 8, and the same current Hit Points you had when alive. You don’t have a Broken Threshold. When you’re turned back into flesh, you have the same number of Hit Points you had as a statue. If the statue is destroyed, you immediately die. While petrified, your mind and body are in stasis, so you don’t age or notice the passing of time."

NOW, the balor has both an aura of flame and death throes, which require no action. Does petrification suppress these abilities, or can a petrified creature still use abilities that require no action?

So I was reading through some of the orc's racial stuff, and I noticed that some of their racial feats require diehard as a feat.

What happens when you use ferocity with diehard? They both seem to preform a very similar function, keep you on your feet when you would otherwise be unconscious from blood loss.

I don't know if I'm confused by the specifics of the language being used in each of the descriptions or if diehard is meant for orcs with alternate racial traits.

Why dose it say in the pathfinder bestiary that there are 6–12 leopards in a hobgoblin tribe? I can find no explanation or reference to this anywhere. Leopards and hobgoblins are both medium size, and hobgoblins weigh 40 pounds more than leopards, so their useless as mounts. As for attack dogs, I'd assume goblin dogs would be more suited to that role. Their environments are also different, with leopards being in any forest and hobgoblins in temperate hills. Someone please help me make sense of this.

According to the bestiary, orcs and hobgoblins share a lot in common, including living on temperate plains. I then got an idea of creating a half breed race of the two (there are stranger mixes out there) using the advanced race guide. I used the uruk hai from the LOTR films as a guideline of what they might be like. I'd like a bit of feed back on this race (and possibly a better name than uruk or hoborc).

Uruk (Advanced Race) Race Points:11

The unnatural spawn of orcs and hobgoblins, uruks combine
hobgoblin cunning with the primal ferocity of orcs. Uruks
are never the result of accidental mating between the two
races, but rather the final product of intensive breeding
between slaves and captives. They can have any combination
of orc and hobgoblin characteristics, though uruks typically
resemble a solid mix of the two races. They stand as tall
as an average human, but are far more muscular. Most people
mistake uruks as just particularly odd looking orcs or
hobgoblins.
