John Bertanzetti is the owner of Odd’s Market Pawn and Repair (Odd’s Market having been a landmark until the family died off) and lives on the premises. The nickname of Odd John quickly followed his re-opening of the old market as a pawn/repair shop.
John stands 5’ ½” tall, with white hair and beard and pale eyes as well as unusually large feet and hands.
He dresses plainly, his signature items being a red cap and a multi-pocketed vest, usually worn over a long sleeved t-shirt or hoody and worn jeans or coveralls.

Prejudice: Odd John is both short and appears elderly, both of which have caused him to be marginalized or overlooked
Responsibility: as host, Odd John is responsible for the welfare of his 'guests'; he takes his self-appointed duties seriously and would be compelled to act as such in situations where hospitality is concerned
Secret: John's original identity is secret and he intends it stay that way
Honor: he stands by this oath and lives to 'return what you have recieved three-fold'; he stands by his word as if his freedom depended on it
Temper: John's temper is chancy when good craftsmanship is being treated badly or not being given it's due
Responsibility: when he was undergoing his trials, John looked up and watched birds flying free, their example gave him hope; he is protective of birds and all who 'fly free'

Characteristics:
Power Descriptors: John’s powers are magic based, but are mutations rather than racial abilities or spells. While he was altered by experimentation and training by creatures from the Deep NeverNever, he was intended to have abilities which would not share the limitations of his kidnappers and has no special vulnerability to iron or other substances.
Powers: John can affect matter, changing its composition or creating it from nothing, as well as being able to wake an item’s animating spirit. For defense, he can form a shield to parry attacks, both melee and ranged. While he cannot control living matter, he can help it to reform (heal) or disrupt it (stun). During his time as forced labor, he learned to accomplish tasks quickly and bear heavy loads. He has developed the ability to taste materials to determine their composition and, after his time in darkness, can now see more clearly in dim conditions. While the memories of his duties during the time he was lost are vague, he has gained a great deal of knowledge of technical systems and physical science,

Origin: Experiment/Endowment/Training - Kidnapped by those he refers to as “the Kindly Ones”, John was ‘trained’ to develop his powers over matter and provide them with support, both material and servitude. In the beginning, he used his own body to fuel his efforts and actually lost almost 12 inches of height and gained the appearance of a much older man.
Personality: John is protective of what he considers his ‘crew’, feels obligated to watch over his tenants, and supports those who live free. Since he expects to be re-captured by the Kindly Ones eventually, he tries to live for the moment. He respects craftsmanship of any kind.
