Background:
Nyssul was born an only child to a military family in Sothis. His father was a very well respected Captain in the Osirion military, and military discipline was something that ruled the household as much as it did his father’s soldiers. His was a good man at heart, and while discipline and order were primary features in Nyssul’s childhood his father stressed duty and honor above all other traits.

It was unusual for a Mereitaur to be found in this part of the world, and Nyssul’s father refused to talk about how it came to be that his family settled in Sothis. Nyssul still does not know any of his background, and while still young he learned not to challenge his father on the story. Even how a person of Mereitaur background could climb the ranks in the Osirion military was a story his father refused to share. The statement was always, “The past is the past. Leave it to rest.”

The military background resulted in a very regimented childhood. Education, fitness, and chores were the predominate feature of Nyssul’s upbringing. His father was not terribly strict on determining what Nyssul focused his studies on, just that he study. The refusal of Nyssul’s father to address the past resulted in a mild rebellion, if you can call it that in a child that was allowed to do nothing but be well behaved. He found a significant interest in the ancient Osirion culture. His father’s station allowed Nyssul access to the great libraries of Sothis. One of the Scarab Sages who was living undercover in Sothis, working the library, took note of Nyssul’s interest in Ancient Osirion culture. This coupled with the discipline, honor, and duty Nyssul displayed from a young age provoked a particular thought in the library worker. He began to give Nyssul specific texts to study that would lead him down a path towards the Living Monoliths without spelling it out for Nyssul. The child was bright enough to make the connection on his own. Physical training, a drive to protect others, and a strong sense of duty was a natural progression of Nyssul.

While his father was not pleased that Nyssul focused so much on the past in his studies, when the child announced that he would work to become a Living Monolith his father couldn’t be more proud. It was at this point that his father’s training regimen became so much more intense, but directed to the end goal of being a Living Monolith. As Nyssul grew he became very single-minded in his purpose. His continuous study and physical training left him inept in terms of social skills. He never really could connect to others, and often found their motives and penchants ridiculous. He often alienated his peers with the combination of his rigidity and specific motivations. He never could reason out why people wouldn’t follow his path. Throughout his young adult years he got into many verbal fights with people around him, and as time went on he simply stopped talking more than was necessary. One key feature stood out, though. His duty was to protect, and no matter what fights or disrespect was put upon him he would defend the one who disrespected him with his life if he had to. His quiet demeanor lives on today, and he still finds most around him nonsensical, but he will defend with his life without second thought.
