Even within The Arabani family, growing up a male drow on Apostae was barely better than being a half-orc. Oh sure, Nym had been wealthy and coddled as a potential heir to the Arabani Arms holdings, but no one would deign to bestow that kind of power on the boy. Luckily for Arabani, Nym was the eighth child, and his seven elder siblings were all of the reliable sort- female.
Nym spend much of his first century learning the ins and outs of the arms trade and testing Arabani weaponry in raids and "live combat exercises." He'd even earned something of a reputation for use of advanced tactics like hacking into defensive frameworks on the fly in a battle to turn the tide when least expected. That kind of outside-the-box thinking inspired Estrecka Arabani, head of the Dark Haven R&D team, to offer her little brother some off-world opportunities.
Nym was sent to Absalom Station to represent Arabani Arms within the Six Tip Gang. In his capacity as an AA rep, he assisted the Six Tips in their endeavors and sold them on weapons, armor, and tactics they might not have considered before. Over time, Nym had earned a reputation for effectiveness in both the boardroom and in acts of piracy both aboard the station and in spacefaring vessels. At this point, he seemed to have caught the eye of an android named Cedona.
Somehow, Cedona always knew how to find Nym- it was enough that he became convinced she was either hunting him, a badge, or interested in him romantically. The last one was probably a stretch, drow makes- no matter how self-assured (arrogant) and flirty (obnoxious) were- at best- second class citizens. But Cedona never once attacked him, arrested him, or made romantic overtures. She even gave him a bit of notice and a transit pass off-station when the Stewards were planning a raid on his safe house. For that alone, he'd never be out of her debt. So when she recommended he hook up with a crew doing courier work for Abadarcorp, despite his best reservations, he agreed.
Now he just had to get used to doing things...ugh...legally.
