Bardic Performance
Countersong (Su): At 1st level, a bard learns to counter magic effects that depend on sound (but not spells that have verbal components.) Each round of the countersong he makes a Perform (keyboard, percussion, wind, string, or sing) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by a sonic or language-dependent magical attack may use the bard's Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the countersong is already under the effect of a non-instantaneous sonic or language-dependent magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it hears the countersong, but it must use the bard's Perform skill check result for the save. Countersong does not work on effects that don't allow saves. Countersong relies on audible components. Distraction (Su): At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to counter magic effects that depend on sight. Each round of the Distraction, he makes a Perform (act, comedy, dance, or oratory) skill check. Any creature within 30 feet of the bard (including the bard himself) that is affected by an illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack may use the bard’s Perform check result in place of its saving throw if, after the saving throw is rolled, the Perform check result proves to be higher. If a creature within range of the Distraction is already under the effect of a non-instantaneous illusion (pattern) or illusion (figment) magical attack, it gains another saving throw against the effect each round it sees the Distraction, but it must use the bard’s Perform check result for the save. Distraction does not work on effects that don’t allow saves. Distraction relies on visual components. Fascinate (Su): At 1st level, a bard can use his performance to cause one or more creatures to become fascinated with him. Each creature to be fascinated must be within 90 feet, able to see and hear the bard, and capable of paying attention to him. The bard must also be able to see the creatures affected. The Distraction of a nearby combat or other dangers prevents the ability from working. For every three levels a bard has attained beyond 1st, he can target one additional creature with this ability.
Inspire Courage (Su): A 1st level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard’s performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance. Equipment:

Background:
Nora should have been more explicit in the contract she signed with the Devils. Even a few more moments would have protected her from the situation she now found herself in. She should have realized they would manipulate the document to their favor. Instead she found herself staring at the ballroom, filled with all manner of horrors. A tear fell from her eye as she began to sing the next song, manipulating the crowd for her current master, a lieutenant of disgusting preposition. She didn’t know exactly why he needed her talents tonight, but she was sure it would become apparent soon, he did so enjoy crushing her spirit with the results of her actions. She had thought many times of running away, forsaking the contract, her soul couldn’t be worth the torment they she endured on a daily basis, but they had her sister. In the ultimate manipulation, the Baatezu had taken the contract at it’s word. Imprisoning her sister in a timeless pocket plane, technically protecting her from any harm. It would only take a thought for the devils to dispel the plane, killing her sister instantly if she were to break the contract, and so she was stuck, her sister’s life hinging on her following the damned contract. Her song began the echoes of the damned accentuating the song into a horrible symphony of pain and misery. She watched helplessly as her current master began his sick game, using her talents to make the other devils more favorable to his intentions, the eternal power struggle of Hell in full force. She stifled a cry as she watched her master drag in another tiefling. His blood and beaten body dragging along the floor, as he effortlessly threw him onto the table before here. ”Come my brethren, Let us celebrate this new found alliance!” Her roared, a sadistic smile on his face as he leered at Nora. They fell on the poor man in front of her with a savagery she didn’t think she would ever get used to. Her song never wavered though, even when the blood of the tiefling began to splash across her face. It never wavered when one of the lesser demons decided that one tiefling wouldn't satisfy his hunger and looked hungrily up at her. It continued unabated as he lunged for her, his screams of pain joining the echoes of the damned as the power of the contract came into effect reducing the lesser devils to scalding ashes before her eyes. She sighed quietly as the feast ended, her song coming to it’s conclusion. She still had so long to go. It was their birthday today, they both would have been 20 today. Did her sister age though? She had never found the answer to that question. She took a deep breath, resigned to her fate, knowing that at the end of the contract her bond to both the tanar’ri and the baatezu would be over. Her birth contract nullified by age, and the baatezu one by time. |
